Laurie is contracted for 2026 so technically he gets another chance next year.

I want to see what a new coach can do with him. I have watched enough Casey games this year where he's absolutely dominated and last night was another example where I scratch my head on how we gifted 17 of the most ridiculous games to Harry Sharp whilst we left Laurie in the scrapheap.

Laurie has AFL traits. I want to see what a new coach can do with him.

laurie knows where he's at - at half time in the elimination final, he said he knows he needs to get past viney, oliver, and petracca for an inside mid role

i'd say it's those three plus pickett, windsor, rivers, tholstrup

that's seven players ahead of him in the picking order, plus you could add langford, culley who have been playing wing in the afl but look like inside mid options as they continue to progress, which is the role culley for instance has played at vfl level too

if we bring in windhager and don't move any of the above out, then that's arguably 10 players who would be preferred to laurie as midfield options

he's up against it to make it

Who are the players getting cut?

Fullerton looked liked one of them. Verrall looked like one.

Billings?

Others?

Fullarton, Billing’s, Woewodin, Brown, Henderson, Verrall

None look like being up to getting a senior game, and all have had their chances.

Sad that of the best players named for this game apart from Culley are either Casey listed, or not up to the top level required for AFL.

The impact of the listed players was on the whole disappointing...not just those on the cusp of being delisted.

I was a bit more bullish on Kolt last week but have to agree with ' @binman ', he needs a big attitude adjustment and I'm not sure if even that will make the difference.

He's got nice skills and looks like a footballer but he's a ways off making it at AFL level currently. He's an average VFL player at the moment.

Our best were Campbell, who's been such a great addition to the club, Laurie and Culley of the listed group.

The Casey boys Hardie, another great addition and Bonner. I think Baldi has a dip and

Almost forgot Billings who just continues to put in even though he knows his days are numbered...some of the other boys could learn a lesson from him.

Was just about to add this sentence to my rambling post. Thanks 'george', this is a big issue for mine and says a lot about where our list sits.

Is there any coverage of this game? Is it really happening?

I couldnt get any access. No worries I have seen every other football and thought I would watch the Casey game on replay "as live" with no knowledge of the result.

I have bought into Kayo as required if you want to follow Dees in the country and cant afford to sustain the local publican thinking id catch it there. No Luck

Nothing on the mighty 7+.

Ive caught some of the sports shows and all the news. No mention of the game

I currently watching St Marys play Palmerston magpies on NTIV But

Youve guessed it no CAsey.

The AFL have ensured that MFC followers are treated with the irrelevance they have always wanted us to have.

I hope to now find that CASEY have triumphed and I hope they smash the opposition and win the flag, Surely the AFL wont ignore that game.

Tholstrup's miss from 25 out right in front at a crucial time summed it up for me. He's VFL calibre at best. Shame we used 2 pics on him but it is what it is.

In contrast you can see the difference in what actual AFL level quality looks like in Cully - has poise and solid skill.

Laurie has patches of brilliance but sometimes his disposal lets him down. I want to see him given a good go next year.

The delistings should be easy this year. Some decent list turnover will be healthy for this club.

Someone asked me last week who will be the six to get delisted. Now that the season is over I will reply.

Your list is spot on George.

Perhaps I'd give Fullarton one more year down back but I'm far from sure on that.

If we get Heath TC must also be in doubt.

The other player is Henderson. Is he contracted for next year? Should he be given a pass due to injuries?

On Casey last night Baldie and Bonner dropped off in those last few games from their almost stellar first half of the season

I see on the AFL site some VFL final games have full replays, but currently the Casey-Frankston only has highlights. What really gets me that in order to find the link to click on to see a replay, you have to see the final score!!!!!

Before we throw the baby out with the bathwater, don't forget Hore has retired, Spargo is a free agent and has offers elsewhere. Henderson cannot get on the park and is out of contract, and I suspect he won't be offered one. That is 3 delistings, along with Fullarton and Billings. Consider that we have AMW and McAdam returning from long-term injury. Then there is our commitment to Sinnema and White, plus somehow we have to find draft collateral to recruit Windhager and Derkson (the latter we may get as a delisted free agent who could take Verral's place)

Well thanks DLand. You have just saved me some time as it doesnt seem essential to watch the game.

Sorry end to the season.

Thanks to KC and all commentators for VFL , your insights and close attention are very much appreciated.

It seems the club has a lot of work to do in regaining relevance so the umpires treat us equally to our opposition even at this level.

The point is we can remove Verrall, Brown, Woewodin, Billing’s, Fullarton, Henderson….along with Hore going, Spargo elsewhere….and it will not make the slightest difference to our 1sts.

We are not in the business of recruiting and keeping VFL players. We MIGHT find something at the bottom end of the draft, but none of the players listed WILL.

I’ll buy people’s Kolt shares. Just 20, no preseason. High agility testing, clean hands, good vision and excellent disposal. Learning midfield role.

Yesterday wasn’t his best game but I’ve seen enough in his last 6 games to feel comfortable with the pick. He won’t be a star but he’ll be a good solid player with great character.

Even with his lack of impact at AFL level, i have been really bullish on kolt.

But whilst he got a bit of the ball last night I was really disappointed with both his game and attitude.

With his build, size, relative lack of athletisism and low disposal numbers Kolt will need to have an x factor to thrive at AFL level.

Elimination final at VFL level, the end of his second full season on an AFL list against a team with no AFL listed players.

It was the perfect game for him to be the x factor, for him to impose himself on the game and make a winning impact

Funnily enough I had that thought then 45 seconds later he missed that sitter after a beautiful bit of transition.

Yes he kicked a good goal later, and yes he was involved.

But he doesn't work hard enough, looks completely static and flat footed at stoppages and wastes energy with the faux tough guy stuff (which only works if like say a Toby Greene you backlit up with stellar performances).

Culley and laurie had more x factor than kolt.

I agree with your observations.

It’s hard to see what he will become as an AFL player. So many aspects of the game don’t come naturally to him as you pointed out. And nothing irritates me more than a player who acts tough but doesn’t know how to get his own pill.

Except for your first sentence, which I don’t agree with as I have never rated Kolt, the rest makes up a concerning dossier for a player that we’ve invested heavily in.

"This raises an interesting situation at the MFC. We have no coach yet we seem to be making decisions on who comes and goes."

old dee posted this a week or so back in another thread.

Until a senior coach is anointed, the leadership vacuum has allowed plently of derogatory comment from the old and new media. Much of it speculative and uniformed. Judging from the wannabees on youtube etc quite a mob are wrestling and elbowing wishing to get their mugs on air. From those still at schoolies to some not so credible hasbeens still hanging around a 💩.

Last night was not a great night for a number of the young blokes, considering most of the team went missing in the 'Frankston by the seaside Triangle' of 2nd and 3rd qt. But a fairer assessment over the late season Casey revival. Would have recognised the contribution of a number of the AFL listed younger players.

There has been an investment by the club in developing this group. Some will go on next year, some will be delisted. Indeed some contract extensions have been announced. That is the reality of being on an AFL list for the more speculative picks. I'm sure wiser heads will make considered judgements based on performance and potential.

After another loss at the end of disappointing season. Inevitably a plethora of shoot from the hip cowboys set up shop. I'll await the real outcome.

Idk if it’s for copyright reasons but the title of their footy record amuses me…

Actually GOTO best AFL listed were Laurie, Billings, Culley, Campbell and Tholstrup.

Agree @george_on_the_outer 8 off the list - Spargo, KBrown, Fullerton, Hore, Verrall, Billings, Henderson, Woey jnr. (7 available spots as Henderson was a SSP replacement). None have shown enough to warrant keeping on the list. Watching last night’s game confirmed it for me.

Try 3 picks. We traded 14, 27 and 35 to get three spots up the list to pick 11. That’s a big investment indicating they saw someone they were really confident in, Kolt or was it someone who went earlier?

I agree with George's list.

I can't agree with Bob that Tholstrup has clean hands. At AFL level all I see is a fumbler.

I don't agree with Dazzle and others re Laurie. He's not up to it. A classic list clogger.

I also think Jefferson is one of the biggest duds I've ever laid eyes on. But I accept that's not a popular assessment around here.

Great comeback by Casey. I bagged Laurie, but he came back and was fantastic in that comeback. Culley has the ability to be anything he has something special. AJ gave a bit when he moved into the ruck and has a red-hot go and Yze is lively. Sestan created opportunities with some pinpoint kicking and showed his worth

Fullarton went forward, and I cannot remember a player being so uncompetitive. Verrel was not used at all, and I think will be delisted. All in all, there will be delistings, but unless the club has targeted players or delisted free agents, we must consider that we have limited draft picks available. 2 of these will go to Sinema and White. We know that Hore has retired, Henderson has been injured and out of contract, and I doubt will get another means. I don't think there will be as many delistings as we think.

Last but not least, yet again we lose a game with more inside 50's, more scoring shots and some horrible misses running into an open goal

We have 11 on our senior and rookie lists that do not have a contract for next year. I think all but 2 will go including McVee, who if they wanted to keep, would have had a contract by now. 3 senior list have to go for AFL rules and 2 rookies because of the LTI. So 6 others.

We had 3 what you might call players who would be in contention for the senior side - Cully, Tholstrup and Howes. Cully threw himself in and made a difference. Tholstrup was hesitant and seems to have a slow reaction time and when he needed to step up and kick that goal -failed. Howes was not in the same class as some of the other defenders from both sides from VFL level. I don't understand why he doesn't get physical. When you compare him with Cully it's like chalk and cheese

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
