Sorry. I wasn’t thinking straight. I know footy’s a cutthroat industry/business but I’m shocked and a little sad

I see it differently - he is respectfully told that we need to get games into younger talls and now he knows where he stands and should look elsewhere rather than play at Casey and fume.

Sad that it might end like this but if we are being honest he’s probably not in the best 22 if everyone is fit. I wouldn’t rule him out either it’s quite clear he has played under duress for a while now and if he could get 100% he could still be in the side.

Another tick for our amazing list management team gifting him an extra year last year when his head was turned by Carlton. Bet we end up paying a chunk of his contract now.

He has his fair share of blame spilling marks whenever he has to sit under one and lax defensive transition. Glad to move on from that.

But I’ll actually miss him barking orders, especially when he was the only one mad enough to have a dip at the captain.

Yes, Tim Lamb’s operating thesis of list management has been blown apart the last 18 months.

I think it is 90% this. Possibly a little something else but bye and bye mostly this.

"Steven May Told to Find New Home" just announced on SEN

Looks like Tom Morris was on this site again as he posted straight after u GW.

It amazes me how many useless media peeps there are. There are very few I listen to or read. Wish we could put them on ignore!!!

Seems clear that the key backs will likely be Turner, T-Mac, Patty, Lever with depth from Adams, Howes and Derksen.

See what we can get for a 34 May who has been on the slow decline. Kudos to Turner for stepping up, hopefully Adams can really push for a spot next year.

Still feels weird letting go someone whose been in our top 5 most important players up until last year. Will miss his aggression and although controversial at times, his leadership has been huge.

This is true, but despite knowing it’s what’s best for the club I always find it sad when a player has to leave when it’s not by choice. I’m still getting over Jayden leaving 🥹

Hmm, maybe players are well within their rights to not uphold contracts if clubs do exactly the same thing?

Fwiw, I welcome both outcomes, contracts are not binding they just create leverage in negotiations.

Genuinely one of my favourite players of all time. At the peak of his powers, he was a force to be reckoned with.

However, he is no longer a required player, for so many reasons.

On-field attitude is terrible. Criticising others, spitting the dummy and pointing fingers. This used to be okay when he was easily the no 1 KPD in the league, but now it's just crass. We are also stacked for key defenders, with Derksen and Petty with potential to fill his role amongst Turner and Adams. We also have Tom McDonald ready to play as that mature KPD, who has also arguably been the superior player the last 2 years and carries none of the baggage Maysie does.

Love ya Maysie but it's time.

May - in the right environment - has at least one good year left in him. Still well inside the best 20 percent of players in the comp. He looked ordinary at times this year, but apart of that was poor (sometimes verging on diabolical) coaching IMHO. With functional structures, he can still stand, and contain, the gorillas. Players of his caliber, even if coming down the other side of the mountain, are not falling out of trees.

A premiership hero who might go down as our greatest ever FB.

Absolutely loved watching May at his best but his form, fitness and sadly attitude have been lacking for a while.

Thanks for the memories Stevie. I hope you are able to play on for a couple more seasons at a new club.

I know this is not the right topic but what is everyone's take on Lever?

very injury prone and that ankle doesn't look like it will get right again.

2-3 years left on decent coin.

Doesn't look like the club will move him on now.

And Charley Curnow will be happy with this news. Maysey towelled him up on a regular basis

He certainly did. Except for the last matchup where Curnow went a month without kicking a goal, and then suddenly kicked 2 in the first 6 minutes on May.

King (x2), Waterman, Lynch, Gunstan, Keeler (of all people), Curnow and Georgiades all either went to town on him or took the points at least. I can't recall a season where he had so many goals kicked on him.

He did play a couple of cracking games in between and will provide his next club with some great games as well. However the best is clearly behind him.

I haven't recovered from the early departures of Stan Alves and Greg Wells.

Wonder what stage we re-signed him for that extra year.
Obviously due to his age it makes some sense from a list strategy POV, especially under a new coach (that's probably the best way to sell it too).
He's not the player he used to be, but part of that is due to him being an absolute warrior on the field (smashing about and played the GF with an injured hammy etc), time waits for no man.
Leaving with a flag and AA selections, what more can you ask for (apart from more flags)
Bit somber but probably the right call.

Imo I thought he had a very injury interrupted season which contributed to his poor form. I would have like to c what he can do if he has a clear run at it but I do acknowledge he is slowing.

Anyway decision is not up to me and I wish him all the best whatever happens.

King would have had multiple meeting on this topic and other pressing matters.

I wonder how Scott is feeling about all this

Was Steve King hit .. 🤔

Ruthless decision and not really MFC like.

We need change and he is past his best so i don’t mind this

Will always be a club champ and a huge part of our flag

Adams

We have defensive depth. It could be Howes Derksen (when he arrives) and Petty.

I really think the days of three defensive talls are over at Melbourne, unless they can really join in on offence.

I'd have Derksen, Howes and Petty before Lever for this reason.

But as I say, we will have more than enough options for the tall backs.

Now to strengthen the forward half.

I hope the media don't go down the may/gawn path & talk about any tension. It would be something morris would investigate & something McClure would talk about

Turner? 👋

No one wants him and he’s a good leader is my theory.

If we get a third round pick and pay him 350k to play elsewhere, may as well pay him the full deal to play/coach with us.

Turner doesn't require mentioning because he's the only lock for our defensive talls. If Petty doesn't play forward, he'll be the other.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
