This 100%. I dont understand the infatuation with a guy that barely gets a go in the 1's. Especially after the collective experience on here regarding our track record. i mean it defies logic what people expect.

If they are not playing regular games in the 1's then its a pass.

Likely Full back players hold down a spot even if its a back pocket in their first or second years. What Jed has going for him is that by the sounds of it he wasn't personally doing enough off field and at training to give himself the best shot. So maybe he finds a bit maturity in his approach, which will translate to his onfield performance.

Starts with a massive pre-season.

I agree with what you are saying but Jed has just completed his 3rd season and played 1 game simply because he is tall. Banking on Jed to be a backline solution for the Dees is extremely high risk.

Adam I can't get my head around why it took us till Rd 22 to get Adams in. With the number of injuries and the season effectively done at mid-year, I would have loved to get a decent block of at least 6 or 7 games into him.

Would there be a valid reason why we didn't? Just seems like we missed a trick there.

Is he on a steep decline or injured and out of form? l say its mostly form and injury with a hint of getting old. Play him full forward and push petty back or play tmac more

I'm glad he got one look in and he wasn't embarrassed. Perhaps the FD felt he wasn't quite ready. I'd rather the FD set up our players to have the greatest success, rather than throw them to the wolves like old times.

100% ^^^^ this is the Geelong model unless you’re exceptional. They take time with their players on average 2 years VFL and they step into a system based team. Yes they have their guns and keep replenishing with the mature ones whilst continuing to develop the soldiers. It is IMO the best policy to have

I concur. There were obvious gaps in the teams ability, but Goodwin was stubborn and never seemed to want to change up the team despite excellent VFL form. Would've been good to leave Adams in for the last 3 games to get a taste of what's to come. We were done at that stage of the season so leaving Jefferson in and maybe giving Kentfield a crack would've given us a better idea of how these kids will go next season.

Or maybe Adams, Jefferson and Kentfield weren't ready for more than a few games at AFL level and the latter had a horribly interrupted pre season.

After three seasons I'd like to think they'd be ready for more games but not always the case as we know.

Our priority was winning games rather than playing kids which then drops the performance of the team and takes away the high performance mindset.

But aside from that Adams wasn’t ready for a long block of games. He’s a good VFL performer but he can still lift and become a great VFL performer at which time he demands a run of games.

He has the talent to do so and is starting to get the frame to do it too. Next step is concentration and the belief to own a game of footy in the VFL (or in training over preseason). Not much point having him smashed in AFL footy until he makes that mental leap.

The problem with trading out May is that paradoxially it hinders the development of our backs, unless we bring in a mature key forward and move Petty back.

This is on the basis that May, Lever and Turner are our first choice tall defenders with TMac ideally playing in the VFL to help develop Adams, White etc. I think our key forwards of JVR, Petty and Melksham are starting to work well together and I like that Petty plays forward but can swing back of and when needed.

In short I would only look to trade out May if we bring in a mature key forward who would be our number one forward target.
