I was at the game last night with Essendon supporters which magnified the pain, but I though Colin Sylvia was an absolute shining light.

I haven't been his biggest fan but I would have struggled to be more impressed with his performance in that game. He put his body on the line, his disposal was fantastic and he showed real leadership throughout the game. A lot of players had more of it, but almost every touch he had was damaging.

For mine, he was best on ground for Melbourne last night for those reasons.

couldn't agree more. his disposal was fantastic and a injury free colin sylvia would take the AFL by storm!

I thought he looked pretty good last night as well...........great to see him sprinting and moving freely for a change.

Let's hope his injury problems are behind him!

A wildcard in the deck for 2008

Well done KID

Finally taking small steps in the midfield, which is nice to see.

My heart was pounding everytime he went for a run, as with our luck this season, I was expecting him to break down never to be seen again

Hopefully over the next 9 games he can gradually build up his midfield engine, and come 2008 become a permanent fixture there.

Love his tackling, probably my favourite part of his game. When he tackles you, you ain't going anywhere!

A healthy body is everything in this sport, as Bell demonstrated this season (before this week, damn).

It's no coincidence that as Sylvia strings a few games together his form is getting and confidence better.

Been saying since 2005 he's the most naturally gifted player on the list.

When he builds up a fitness base (Hopefully next preseason) and goes into the middle he will really dominate.

really happy with the way he is coming on, but his set shots need some work. His technique is not quite right, case in point last night when he sprayed one from about 20m out... something for him to work on, but nobody is perfect :)

Last night, one feature of his game I was very impressed with was his decision making and disposal in heavy traffic. It was something I hadn't seen a lot of and I am pleased to see his confidence growing with every game.

I am thrilled for him. I hope he plays 200+ games for us. A gem.

You are all very quick to judge. Remember, McLean was pick 3, Sylvia was pick 5. He is a very very good player, he's just been struck down by injuries (including pubis) over the past 2 years. He was awesome at Sandringham.

They're not, he's learning to manage it better & doing better recovery on a weekly basis. He's been playing much better this hole season probably due to his continuity & acceptance of 'nothings perfect'. He's looked to me like he's taped up tight & starting to adjust.

I agree. He has had a fairly poor last three weeks (average of 10 possessions and 0.0 playing mostly up forward) so I wouldn't call it a breakthrough yet - but good signs.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
