    6 Gawny - will win his third best and fairest and his eighth AA. Meek tried to maul him, but there is a thing called class.

    5 Salem - yep I know he wasn't a linebreaker (never has been) but he's always smart and clever and he went at 83% disposal efficiency. And whilst McVee was mainly on the Wizard, he only played on Moore part of the time.

    4 Trac - our only offensive weapon, mainly because we didn't use Kozzie, he looked dangerous at times and seems to have gone back to embracing a more forward/mid hybrid role after four years largely in the guts. Almost took a lovely hanger as well.

    3 Petty - I normally don't give him a vote, but this was the first time I thought he looked like a forward and he even moved the ball forward quickly a couple of times. Did well in the air on Barrass and Sicily and contested all game. Sent back late in game to cover May.

    2 Sparrow - thought he was our best player to half time with Gawny and like Viney he worked his butt off and tackled like a madman. He also went at 78%, Viney went at 68%, Olly 61% - so those of you knocking him today had your blinkers on.

    1 Rivers - Ed was our running man early, but as the game wore on Trent got more involved, even had a couple of bounces. With no Windsor and Kozzie ignored, his dash, along with Ed's, was crucial.

    Gawn by a mile.

    Rivers - he was good in the second half and the new coach needs him in the middle

    Salem - decent enough game

    Oliver - he's on an upward curve

    Van Rooyen - like his work as a second ruck and he moved well as a forward.

    Petty - one of his better games.

    Why do we keep giving votes to midfielders who are our biggest problem (no pressure on the opposition entries into their forward 50, no dare in moving the ball forward by foot).

      1. The SC for making sure Melk was the sub, thereby protecting him from his usual slow start to a match (ie: roughly the quarter he came on for as sub) and reducing the chances of pinging a hammy or calf (only the best player management at the MFC right there 👏🏻)

        1. Chaplin's forward coaching methods for 2025 season - which i thought continued to shine through in this match and increased his chances of doing same next season. This and the selection of Melk as sub showed that he is ready to take the next step as a senior coach at some point (probably only at the MFC though)

          1. The likelihood of Buckley / Other reputable ex senior coach coaching the MFC

              -6.0 Pressure, Skills, Hardness, Effort, Desire, Will to win, Spirit and Goodwin's coaching methods over the last four seasons that see us mostly head towards the boundary and or bomb it long in straight lines on top of player's heads & also sees most (potential) marking players (bar Gawn) running under the ball and / or mids on ballers being lead to the ball by their opponents ie; not playing in front (old habits die hard!).

              -5.0 Comtinuation of sloppy zone defence after getting 5+ goals down (Chaplin).

              -4.0 Pickett continuing on with his recent preference of playing high school / amatures level footy. Hopefully he can step up next week and bring VFL levels!?

    1. Gawn - by a ‘country mile’. What size AA blazer does he take?

    1. Salem - got a fair bit of ball, and mostly used it to advantage.

    1. Rivers - showed some dash, particularly in the second half. A sign for the future?

    1. Petty - very good work rate, and kicked a couple.

    1. Bowey - solid, but has set a high standard for himself.

      It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition.
