AND a home final, I presume.

And against battered wild-carders?

I believe so.

Casey's system shone today, showing we can cut through even the best opposition. Lots of positional things also looking strong with Kentfield and Fullarton. Strange to say it, but I actually think our top end class is what is turning strong performances into wins. Billings, Laurie, Kolt, Sinemma, Spargo.

Sinnema is class and will be a player, can't wait to see him develop.

I still think we should offer Bonner a rookie spot to release Salem or Bowey up the field.

Nah just release Salem full stop he's past it.

Jefferson had a huge day. Zero marks. The evidence is in.

Not really - the commentators mentioned during the third quarter that Jefferson had already been on the bench for several minutes and, after that, I didn’t notice him on the field. I suggest that his name might appear on the injury list when it comes out on Tuesday. Casey has a week’s break so hopefully, we’ll see him in action in the finals.

Will definitely finish top 10 in B&F, could be top 5

I wish we had a player called Sinema in.our women's team.

She'd have her own theme song - Sinnema girl, sung to this tune:

go back a few years...

How was Tholstrup’s game? Numbers look good. Why didn’t we just give him a block of Casey games like this when he came back from Injury?

Pass

Hoyts or Village?

I think you're projecting. He could usher in a new era.

A very good point.

because they were trying to fasttrack his development

wrong move, clearly

same with never giving spargo a run of games to get into form, and lever the same

even may yesterday looked rusty as all get out early days, and was slow and a step off the pace after 3 weeks out with concussion / suspension

And yet this lesson should’ve been learned years ago

Yep. He is hardly a good player at VFL level. Move on. Kentfield with terrible preseason is showing far more than him.

If he finishes top 10, let alone top 5, that will say so much about our season.

He is IMO at the heart of our struggles. A leader, but coasts through games, takes dinky and easy kicks, never imposes himself, all whilst playing a position that in the modern game sets up the best sides. An absolute mile off the best half backs, it isn’t even close.

That he is never seriously discussed as being on the chopping block at selection is a genuine part of our current predicament (the same goes for Sparrow, Petty and Langdon).

Sinnema gives cause for great optimism.. he’s silky smooth and has a fair physique to build on

In fairness, Jeffo had treatment on a foot injury with taping across the top of his foot, and played very little of the second half.

Kolt was excellent, particularly in the second half - won lots of contested ball and his disposal was superb...

I was standing next to the bench because I like hearing Taylor tell the runner what to tell the players. If the runner is already out there he tells the player who’s about to go on to pass on messages. Very interesting. With about five minutes to go Taylor told Big Fish (WV28) to let them all know to ice the game. He said for them not to take any risks.

Yes, finishing fifth should give us a home final against the lower-ranked wild card winner, so that will be either Williamstown, if they beat Collingwood: or if Collingwood win we will play the winner of Richmond/Giants. And we get a week off of course.

Injured his foot and hardly played second half, get ur facts right you Blowhard!

1 hour ago, whatwhat say what said:

it feels strange to say this but... fullarton should be perservered with, as a tall defender option

Not wrong. But has he left his run too late? Would be shame to see him reinvent himself at another AFL club as a defender, but it's a cruel AFL world.

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
