See… The thing with the “proven coaches” like Longmire and Simpson is, will they be prejudiced in their approach because it “worked”‘for a long time or are they, unlike Goodwin willing to actually change with the times.

Thats what I’m afraid of.

By bringing in a highly rated rookie like Jaymie Graham, they don’t haven any past experience or prejudice that can influence decision making. They are coming in fresh with new ideas. Yeah, there will always be horrific exceptions like Mark Neeld or a Watters, but what we saw with how McRae changed the game with front attacking foot footy and Kingsley with his ability to build rapport and develop younger players. Think the rejuvenation of Hogan and how much of a star Callaghan has become.

I can see Rivers becoming just as good as a full time on baller under and Lever getting back to his best under a Jaymie Graham.

A Carlton mate usually gets good mail about the Blues and the latest he’s heard is Longmire to replace Voss. 3 years he heard, we shall see.

Dont under rate Nathan Bassett....he had a very good record at Norwood with premierships in 12&13....all Australian in 2006

Fooled by the analysis on 360???? They are hugely successful Premiership coaches, they are not getting picked up because of 360 🤦

Bucks wasn’t! Longmire I suspect isn’t interested but I’d gladly talk to him.

Simpson is the one who’s had his reputation rehabbed by tv. He was a great coach but covid ruined his team and him. I’d be very thorough to work out if 360 Simmo is more like the premiership coach or if the current eagles are still dealing with how bad things were at the end of his time.

Should give Nathan Bassett a go, at least for the last 3 games. Good past record as senior coach. Knows the players. See if he can implement any new ideas.

Longmire has had too many hits to take it on again. Four losing GFs he’s punch drunk.

Too soon.

I'm sure there will be plenty of low hanging fruit suggestions without much substance or proper case for them though.

Ignoring pay and other commercial realities for a second, if you were a #2 coach and both Carlton and Melbourne wanted you, which list is more appealing to you?

If experienced John Longmire or Adam Simpson

Untried. Hayden skipworth, Corey Enright, Brent Montgomery or Daniel gianceracusa

Our young guns are more highly rated and better in my completely unbiased opinion. I think there is more pressure at Carlton too given its a bigger club.

Melbourne.

We have proven premiership players with time to return to their best, and a good mix of youth.

You back yourself to get Clarry and Trac back to their best, and go from there.

Ok. This is the perfect time to introduce Clarry to the role of Captain/Coach. You beauty. Go Clarry.

Pre- season would certainly be something else.

The school of thought that says the Board had someone in mind in exiting Goodwin now: what expertise, knowledge, or outside advice can a Board have, collectively or individually, that this could be anything other than 'fingers crossed', either as to the availability or to the future success of that someone.

Not speculating it can't. It's a serious question.

Get Enright. Team him up for one year with a mentor such as Horse.

John Longmire is my choice. But we shall wait and see.

We also need an entire clean out of our Football Department. Alan Richardson needs to go too.

All new assistant coaches.

The only ones who possibly survive would be Mark "Choco" Williams and Nathan Jones.

Two words: Kozzie Pickett.

I really didn't understand anyone who thinks Buckley is the answer.

Got handed a young premiership team, failed to get them another, hands over team to another coach who gets a premiership. Sure he knows footy but his final years and game plan at the pies where a disaster

Totally agree

Will never buy another membership if it’s Hird. Horse if he wanted it. Simmo is cooked after WCE, although I think he is a decent guy. Buckley had same in game issues as Goodwin had.

Personally I think Chocco, needs to go as well as Alan, not convinced Nathan has done enough either. I don’t have any insight into the untested but would love to know who has been doing the window shopping. I have no confidence the club had a plan.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
