Who Will Be Our Next Coach?

Featured Replies

Brett Montgomery from GWS.

I would prefer a young upcoming assistant, who can prepare the next iteration of the Dees. We cant just copy other teams strategy, need to be inventive.

Must give a ring to Cam Bruce and Corey Enright IMO

I would suspect the next candidate has likely been identified, though of course there will be due diligence. I suspect the timing of this is to make an immediate move and get the new coach in ASAP in order to assist with delisting's, trade, free agency and the like. It will be telling if McVee's signature is announced in light of this.

Hayden Skipworth is highly regarded at the Pies?

Kenny

Simmo

Horse

Voss !

Kenny - no real success

Simmo - the reason why WCE are uncompetitive

Horse - won a GF with COLA, smashed in subsequent GF's with Academy Players

Voss - probably should have offered to swap coaches for 2026 and see what happens

I'd look at something along the lines of Cam Bruce with Simmo or Horse as Football Manager.

Same for me. Feels like Goodwin 2.0 to me.

Gawn Captain & Coach… lol

I would like to see James Hird & Cameron Bruce at the Dees…

I think we will go for a proven coach over a new one.

Why do you think that?

It's not like re-cycled coaches are particularly successful. If my history is correct the last re-cycled coach who didn't coach a premiership team who subsequently did at his second try was Malcolm Blight at Adelaide. Re-cycling premiership winning coaches hasn't been a complete failure (Malthouse, Matthews), but plenty fail second time around.

What about Bucks if he wanted to coach?

dear god no. mechanically he is the same as goodwin, so we would end up in the same mess in a few years time

Exactly. Bruce’s history includes Hawthorn under Clarkson and Lions under Fagan as well as Blues under Bolton so he has seen both sides of the role.

Enright I don’t know much about beyond pñaying history but he knows strong culture.

I would prefer a younger coach. People pushing Buckley and Simpson chills me.

If people don’t think Horse or Simmo are a good option then they are kidding themselves.

I'd love Bruce back at the club, even as an assistant

Not just because of the Melbourne connection, but he's genuinely built a very impressive coaching CV. He was a senior assistant at Hawthorn during their three-peat and has been Brisbane's midfield coach for the last 4-5 seasons.

Proper process please

I think that’s why we have moved now.

Horse has taken himself to the knackery.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
