This cannot be accurate. The Demonland brains trust and this very thread says so.

Well, the odd thing is in his earlier days he was indeed quite maverick and laterally minded. Even until 6-6-6 he was up for trying things. It never loses irony that 6-6-6 was solely designed to thwart a Demon coach...

Strategy.... I'll give him some kudos he has more than an idea as to how game can be played. Translating and applying it however seemed to be a different kettle of fish.

Holistically I think he's quite good. The day game and micro strategy, possibly not his forte.

Good luck to him , I suppose. Doesn't particularly figure highly in my thoughts or concern.

Goody appointed Director of Coaching and Performance. Best of luck to him.

The possible significance of this for MFC is the size of his payout should be reduced by the amount of the salary he receives for this job.

Good luck to him, hope he enjoys getting paid two salaries.

Wish nothing but the best for Goody.

Which is why I steer clear of those other sites.

I recently asked a DL-er who’s been on here way longer than I have if this site has ever been worse than it is now. He said during the dark times (Neeld era etc.) it was very bad but in terms of personal attacks, sniping at one another and just generally being a nasty person, now is an all-time high.

well i am not ,so there p.s hi my little sheet rack

At Sydney, for those like me who weren’t sure initially:

Is that a statement or a question? If the former that's good news, presumably he'd be on decent coin in Sydney.

A great get for them, brings a lot of experience.

That isn't how payouts on termination work.

He was entitled to the payout regardless of what happened next.

this is true but does it help with our soft cap?

The Sydney position/salary doesn't help us.

But hopefully mfc applied to the AFL for approval to spread the payout over two years. The AFL approved it for Clarkson's payout so I'd be surprised if they didn't for us.

Great get for Sydney. Wishing Goody the best, and happy for him that he can relocate to be with his wife!

I am no expert on termination payouts, but surely this can’t be right.

He could not take the Swans job if he was still employed by us. Surely the employment contract envisaged this scenario, as it is not a new one.

Hopefully there will be some offset.

A role in 'developing'.

Hmmm.... Some on here might have something to say on that?

That was Hawthorn. They probably didn't need to ask. Auto approved. Us though.....

He's not ( employed by us ) that was a termination payout. Thereafter the time is his, the money is his.

Great result for Simon Goodwin, he didn’t muck around, now he coaches and develops their coaches he will be in his element up in Sydney. Good luck Simon.😁👍

Hardly surprising given the second circle was brought in to thwart a Demon ruckman... (under the guise of stopping PCL injuries) - Jeff White on the long run up was a thing of beauty

Wasn't it Daniher who campaigned for it? Remember him speaking very strongly about Ruckmen smashing their knees together.

I did some further checking and what I wrote may not be correct.

The only thing I could find is this from AI:

"A sacked AFL coach's remaining contract is often subject to a "duty to mitigate", meaning the coach must actively seek similar employment, and any new income from that job will offset the amount the former club owes them. ...

The "Duty to Mitigate"

  • Definition:

The sacked coach has an obligation to find another job in the same field (e.g., another coaching position).

  • Impact on Payout:

Any salary earned from a new job is used to reduce the amount of money the club is required to pay the coach for the remainder of their contract."

I've not found any AFL related correspondence on this so I'm not sure it is all that cut and dried. The word 'often' doesn't indicate 'mandatory' so it depends on the agreement mfc struck with Goodwin. .

If the agreement was to offset mfc payout there is a commensurate benefit to our soft cap.

That’s what I was getting at Luci, the AFL has some rules different to the general employment marketplace.

Tbh they seem pretty fair too, as why should someone be allowed to double up?

We have effectively allowed Simon to take a long term employment ,when he was only contracted for 1 more year with us.

I am sure there will be some credit given to us on his termination payment, as a result of his new AFL job with the Swans.

There are two benefits. The club will be say $400,000 better off if that’s what he’s getting and that obviously will be extra money that can be spent on the soft cap. You should be able to get a pretty senior assistant coach for the money that Goody will be on. I assume we’ll be getting a midfield coach, Chappy will go to the backs and get someone in for the forwards who actually knows what they are doing. I heard an utterly unsubstantiated rumour that Scarlett is being sounded out to be the backs coach.

Agree, it's good he can be with his wife & he'll be happy pretty much being anonymous in Sydney.

Must be peeved though. Heard on the grapevine that he was really disappointed he and his wife had to abandon plans to move to Crannie.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: West Coast

Epic battle alert.  This Sunday, Casey Fields hosts a coach’s showdown pitting the wits of the master Mick Stinear (92 games, 71.7% win rate) against his protégé Daisy Pearce (16 games, 43.8%). Still early in her coaching journey, Daisy’s record doesn’t yet reflect her impact — but she’s already the best-performed coach at West Coast.Dais’ is mythic.  Like Katniss Everdeen, everyone either wants to kiss her, kill her (sporting metaphor) or be her.  Toothers Daisy Pearce is a role model, someone admired for their heart, humility and humour.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.
