Thanks for the 2021 flag Goody. Should've been two or three. After 2021 such a waste of the best list most of us have seen or will ever see. 2023 was a finals disaster which set up our spiral down

Wow Wee.
Just heard the news.
Gotta say it feels surreal.
My 1st thought when I saw the headline on You-Tube was "Ah .... Clickbait."
Loved that he delivered a flag.
Hated that he bored me to tears since.

Win or lose I look forward to abit more excitement around the club .... And hopefully the gameplan.
Onward and upward.
Go the Demons.

1000% this.

It's now after 10am, the whole world knows, and we still haven't got a media statement from the club regarding this.

Total shambles how this club can't control even the most important of information.

That's because the club's Chief Communications officer is too busy running the AFLW program.

I could whip up a memo in 5 minutes.

FFS this is so unacceptable.

Why can't this club just get itself sorted.

If you decided the coach is getting sacked, you prepare a media release that moment so it's ready to send.

Brad Green should have had a draft email ready to go already.

How can you disrespect not just a premiership coach, but the players and members like this? Don't we deserve to find out about such important news not from goddamn Tom Morris?

I swear make Tom Morris the president at this point, he seems to get more info than anyone else.

There are always unintended consequences. The Time to go Goody thread is suck for all eternity on 234 pages.

Freudian, QD?

Timing makes perfect sense to me. Only time will tell if the decision is the correct one and I certainly do feel for Simon right now. But not sure what was to be gained by anyone to leaving this move until the end of the season. If the Board has made the decision already, not doing Goodie any favours by stringing him along. While a nice sentiment, a farewell game would be awkward for all concerned and never going to happen and doubt Simon would want this either. By announcing this now, we steel a march on any potential competition. We can openly approach preferred candidates. We can have a coach in place for one of the most crucial draft and trade periods for our club for years. Gives new coach time to recruit his coaching staff and set off season expectations to players before they go on leave.

I also think that the Board would be mindful of the upcoming election and might have been concerned that those agitating for change last year might have resurfaced this year in an attempt to overhaul the current Board and the plans they have in place. Now, with change already in place of most senior positions, members probably more likely to be onboard.

The tears, they fall like rain.

This is a sad day, for the club and for Goody. He gave us what many of us thought we'd never see.

My sincere hope is that this isn't a knee [censored] reaction to the accusations levelled by Caro re: lack of leadership. I think it'll be spun that way anyway.

We simply can't wait for Guerra and Smith to start to begin our coach hunt. Either we need to have someone in mind, or we need to get cracking on the process ASAP

7 wins from the past 25 games with 15 premiership players tells you everything you need to know

That pretty much covers it Jnr.

“I feel incredibly supported by the board, I have for nine years,” Goodwin last Thursday.

At the end of the day, it is a results driven "business", our record over the last 2yrs is appalling. Goodwin knows this. Europe holiday with an extra $1m and no stress, he will be fine.

We needed change but I feel pretty sad for him and the club right now, never good when it ends like this. All the best Simon and thank you.

From what i can tell, its effective immediately. It was definitely needed, but they should've given him this weeks home game as a farewell game, I feel bad he doesn't get one, he deserves it.

in terms of the leaker i think its someone from the inside rather than a player family etc.

The noise the last week or so has been Goodys contract would not be an impediment to change. the board obviously paving the way for this decision

Wow. I'm shocked. I honestly thought things would continue as per usual until the end of the season.

I'm excited for change, but also sad to see the end of an era. Goodwin leaves the club having delivered us a drought-breaking premiership. A legend of the club.

And that is The Coach Killer QD. I thought that when I heard him say it but didn’t think it would happen.

Have you thought that they may have given him one last Saturday!

Maybe it was Simon's camp that leaked the story? Just a thought as who else would have a relationship with Tom Morris?

Waiting till the end of the season was fraught with danger. I’m proud of my club, clearly his potential payout was considered but so was a player and fan exodus. The club can breathe again and suddenly footy seems fun again. There will be a shoot out at the G this weekend.

Best wishes to Goody, always a premiership coach and no one can take away from that. I guess we'll never know now what a speech from him after winning a premiership would sound like (I'm still annoyed about how they skipped him in 2021!).

With all the rumours and the media's relentless pursuit of him regarding off field stuff, he's had a lot to put up with. My overall sentiment at this point is that I have no idea what has actually gone in the club, and the checked out feeling I have about it all might reflect the need for change. We'll find out more about "what really happened" over the next several years, though I can't really say I'm looking forward to it.

While I think the timing makes sense, I hope we can pay proper respect to Goody in some fashion in the coming weeks. Of course, he may not have been interested in a farewell game, which is understandable. Or maybe he even had one under the radar last weekend...

Strange to think this is our first coach sacking since 2013. All I can hope for at this point is that there has been some planning behind this. I'm sad to see a premiership coach go, but I'll admit there is a part of me that's more excited for 2026 than previously.

REINSTATE THE COACH! Learnings are to be had!

No surprise from my end. Suspect we have someone lined up already.

Press conference at 1pm @ The MCG

Oh look it's media communication manager, president and CEO of Melbourne, Tom Morris.

This slimy weasel delivering all the news about the club is wearing thin.

Long time coming, said it before but he has only achieved success relative to what expectations were twice in his tenure 2018 and 2021. Can’t include 2022 or 2023 since we failed to win a final, and all the other years we didn’t even make finals and even if finals isn’t the expectation some years it’s certainly more than what has been delivered

Even AI could provide something reasonably coherent, you'd think...

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.
