You can never have too many midfielders. But do we have too many players who’s best position is midfield, but are less effective elsewhere?

On behalf of your loyal Demonland podcast listeners, we humbly petition you to produce two Demonland podcasts this week.

If a 6 point loss is the catalyst for a week’s cancellation then surely an 83 point victory deserves two shows!!!

So much negativity on this site. I’m so over the constant club bashing, coach bashing and player bashing that’s taken over. I mean yes of course it’s been a very disappointing year with cruel ways of losing , and a killer loss v saints. But can you please include a bit of looking at the positives.

The game seemed bog average for most of the afternoon. Compared to the Maggies/Bears and the Crows/hawks games, it seemed low intensity and poor skill. However, you can only play the team on the park you are up against at the time.

Will we be any showing in our last few games, or was that the 2025 last hurrah?

OK we beat the bottom side, but we beat them by 84 points. When was the last time we put a side away like that. This is the kind of response we have wanted from the Dees many a time and never got it.

So just a bit of praise for that, but I am still boiling from last week!

When was the last time we kicked 10 goals in a quarter?

I thoroughly enjoyed going to the footy yesterday. Loved it.

Shout to the 16k dees fans who were there with me. Great energy.

Didn't blame you guys at all for no Pod last week I had just about stopped listening anyway, re C Wilsons set to in the Age fair dinkum I just wish she would go away and leave us alone, I don't care if all or none of it is true we fans, supporters, members, players etc etc have had enough, we don't need any more of her manure being put around, she is disgusting, anyhow thanks for all your efforts

It would be interesting if @binman could deal with umpiring stats. I’m sure the afl have access to individual data. We should know about number of 50/50s paid each way to each team by specific umpires, how many possessions they get, number of Clanger bounces, number of clear non decisions. This might help him make sense of what his eyes are telling him when he watches the game.

with the likes of butters, pickett, wanganeen-milera, and now windsor moving into inside midfielder positions, is the big bodied mid being transitioned out for an entirely different style of player where pace and ability to break away from the contest is paramount over ability to win contested footy as a physical beast?

as such, do you think langford will continue to be a wingman / forward in 2026, or will he become an inside mid at afl level, as he was at junior levels?

But rumpole you have to discount yesterday because of the quality of the opponent. That wce team would struggle at VFL level.

Ox you are shooting the messenger. Her article is spot on. We have been led terribly by our board over the last 2 years. How on earth do you appoint a ceo with no football management experience who cannot start for 6 months?

I noticed a few times yesterday that Gawn would let JVR or Petty take a ruck contest in the forward 50 while he stayed a kick behind the play. Is this something new? I must say I like the idea if it means preserving Max for a season or two longer. As he showed yesterday, he can kick a goal, but that is better left to specialist forwards IMHO.

Good to see a response yesterday. IMO that’s a par win against a club that’s rock bottom.

Question for the panel.

What will it take on-field for you to Trust the team again? Leading into next season.

For me what I need to see in the last 3 games of the year, is them having a genuine crack. I want us to win 1 maybe 2 of the last 3 and if so, I can see a path forward. But if we turn up half interested have to listen to same post match rubbish I’m off us until I see something to believe in.

Bowey's first kick in gave me Frosty 2018 final v Hawthorn vibes. How good to see that being tried?

Why have the footy department been hiding Jai Culley until 4 rounds to go? He is exactly what we have been needing from any of our traded in recruits. Tall, athletic, able to play forward, wing, mid and can take a great grab and kick a goal. Another blight on our selections throughout the year.

What would the panel think is a fair pass mark for the last 3 games? Dogs, Hawks and Pies. I just want to compete. 4 quarters of effort if not skill. If we could pull an upset over one of them then I'll be over the moon but I think realistically, with all 3 of them fighting for finals/top 4 spots then we will well and truly be up against it. No capitulations, no slow starts or turning into training cones to finish the game.

I hope they do it for the fans and to give us some hope that the future is ok.

I’d like to know the web traffic numbers to demonland.com from last Sunday after the saints game vs sept 25 2021 evening

I definitely had trouble with Demonland for a few hours post St Kilda. Wasn't sure if it was thousands like me, logging in to vent or whether Andy had pulled the pin on the website in disgust. Either is understandable.

I was going to raise this after the Saints game last week, but the same issue cropped up again in this match. What on earth is going on with the centre bounces at Marvel Stadium? To be fair, centre bounces have been deteriorating across all venues in recent years. It’s clear that the current crop of umpires just aren’t as proficient at the bounce, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we eventually see it scrapped altogether, or reserved only for the start of games and quarters.

I don’t watch many non-Demons games and thankfully we don't play much at Marvel, so I haven’t been paying close attention to the games at this venue. Over the past two weeks at this venue, there have been a staggering number of recalled bounces. Is there something about the surface at this godforsaken stadium that’s contributing to the problem?

I like that we are experimenting with different setups in the middle. It was good to see Windsor attend centre bounces. Do you guys have any numbers as to the number of centre bounces he and other attended on the weekend. I think we should be using these last 3 games to experiment with different players in the middle particularly if we are likely to lose either Petracca or Oliver or both.

Harvey Langford continues to impress me no matter what position he is played in. I liked him being played deep in attack. 3 goals and he was a finger tip away from clunking a couple in the square and could have ended the match with 5 goals. He is going to be an absolute star of this footy club.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.

  • POSTGAME: Western Bulldogs

The Demons lacked some polish but showed a lot of heart and took it right up to the Bulldogs in an attempt to spoil their finals hopes ultimately going down by a goal at the MCG.
