For anybody doubting his recruitment, or what we paid...

Would strongly advise to watch this 7-8 minutes and reserve your judgements.

We should all be rapt by his inclusion.

Wants to be a leader too....so much to like.

Great Pick up

Well done Dees

The leverage Collingwood had was we didnt want to dilute our Spargo compensation pick, so for that privilege we had to give something to Collingwood that was better than the compo pick they would receive. Otherwise they would have said to us to take him as a UFA for all they care and the consequences of that are on us.

The Spargo compensation pick is 41 this year. The future 3rd rounder could be as high as around the same pick next year. That is not much incentive and in my view does not give Collingwood any bargaining power. The pick swap itself from 61 to 71 should have been enough as they were still getting something. I would happily have taken him in free agency and lost the Spargo compo 41 given it is similar to what we are giving away and the way we have played it we have gifted more to Collingwood.

Regarding having to give Collingwood something better than the compo pick they would receive - while we can't be sure of what type of banding they would have received, I can't imagine it would be very high and surely we did not need to give both a future 3rd and the pick swap.

Welcome aboard Brody Mihocek (192cm, 96kg, 6’4” in old terms) strong and effective forward kicked 36 this year alongside Elliot’s 60. Will take the top defender and take some pressure off Rooey , Milkshake and Fritta, will also help make space for Kozzy and help with development of Matty Jefferson and young Luker Kentfield. Win- Win for Dees. We must have something in mind for Spargypants pick to burn the future 3rd. Hope you are fighting fit Brody.

So the compo pick for Spargo was a 4th rounder. Interesting they wanted to not dilute that. It's pretty diluted already.

Suggests they need the picks for something else.

Given his age only a short term solution but he will improve the Dees forward setup. Despite playing for the Pies I always liked Mihocek and see him as an honest toiler who will play for the team. Good pickup.

61 was the 3rd round swap from Brisbane we threw in to the Sharp trade last year. Now it’s off to Collingwood. It could’ve been 47.

47 might be in range of a useful pick and/or used with Oliver or Tracc to boost our return there as it has points value.

Instead, it’s gone

Except you don't know all the details...

Lamb mentioned the balance between going down the FA path or the trade path.

In order not to dilute our FA pick from Spargo (which could well be the pick we use in the Trac or Clarry deal), we may have had to pay a little extra as a trade.

Again though, we've got next to no information on any of this, so criticism is pretty rich, but I guess that's Demonland. People with next to no knowledge thinking they know better than people with all the facts.

While I totally get the nickname "Checkers", not sure if I could call hime that, knowing that's what he was at Collingwood - would just feel so dirty.

Perhaps the couple of alternatives that I could be OK with:

  1. If he clarified it was he was known as since primary school; or

  2. We change Checkers to Checker as a nickname with a proud history at the MFC.

The compo pick for Spargo was an end of second round (41 at the time it was isssued) not a 4th round. Compo picks dont even go to 4th round to begin with.

Couldn't have said it better myself

He averages around 40 goals a season

Who is the last 'tall' fwd for the Demons to do that?

Tall be being over 6"3' for sake of argument

He is underrated imo

He won't do much

What would be a pass mark for you?

Would you take an average of 1.5 goals a game for the season? Assuming we actually improve our delivery I50 that is.

He's a massive upgrade on Petty

Mihocek's AFL player rating was 7.07 in 2025. Petty's was 6.90. They are essentially the same player at the moment.

Petty back as a defender! I can't believe Goody persisted with that experiment for so long.

Also, averages 27.5 goals for the last 2 seasons, which is his "current form"

Bit harsh as he's been injured but therein lies the problem. Youre relying on a 33 yr old to recapture the mobility and agility of his 20s (with a foot injury). Its possible I guess.

He's an upgrade cause his marking is decent and will have the odd good game mixed in with shockers. If he kicks 60 over his contract thats probably the pass mark.

Sounds like a solid citizen. Can't be any worse that anyone we've played up forward recently. Welcome aboard Checkers!

2024 played 11 games for 19 goals

2025 played 22 games for 36 goals.

So 33 games for 55 goals which is averaging more or less 1.67 goals a game. His career average is 1.68

I’ll take over 1.5 goals a game for a couple of years.

Anyone can manipulate stats to suit their agenda, we see it on here all of the time... I hope he kicks 40+ myself, lets see.

5 time leading goal kicker.

If he stays fit he'll be brilliant.

Over the years we've recruited Schache, mcadam and Hunter.

Kings brings in brody. Without him playing a game yet, I declare this to be the winner already.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
