Also the amount they paid for McStay, Schulz and Houston almost makes our Hunter, Billings, McAdams deals look good.

when drafting key forwards they must have mongrel and c*** about them, when theres a pack or a player in front of them or the ball is kicked too them they need to run through anything and everything and attack that ball like they want it. MJ from day 1 has shown no ability to do that, JVR does a little bit but cant get himself higher than any other hands in the pack or enough seperation from his defender. its my biggest concern about White is that he's a basketball two footed jumper, ball on my head and ill mark it because im taller not a see ball recklessly fly at ball KPP

Again, the poster was writing Mihocek off based on his performance last night, ie. one game. Experts simply don’t do that. They wouldn’t last long in their jobs if they did.

I think the argument is that AFL is quite taxing on the body, both in season with knocks and niggles, and pre season with heavy loads. A lot of older blokes probably retire because they don’t want to do another pre season. It takes its toll.

So yeah, in theory, Mihocek should be able to go around a little longer than average. I’m still a bit skeptical on the decision to get him though. He can definitely hang around and play a role for a couple of years, and if we were actually contending then it makes sense, but are we? Why is May getting phased out for Adams? Just a bit confused by it all. Signing Lachie Hunter for two years was OK in terms of on field performance but him leaving opened the door for Lindsay to play 20 games this year, which was much more beneficial. Just hope we have a clear plan and Mihocek doesn’t get in the way of a younger player while we go through transition / mini rebuild.

I don't see any better options out there. no better viable trade options anyways.

If he gets the tick from the medical team and the coin is reasonable then worth a go imo.

3m over 5 years for McStay (who’s barely been on the park),

Richards, Noble, pick 36 and a massive chunk of salary cap for Houston.

Thats 5 young players including some guns and potential guns for a 31, 28 and 29 year old next year. It got them close but let’s see what it does to their future.

McAdam, Hunter and Billing’s were a huge bust but they only cost us one second round pick and some junk picks, a waste for sure, but not to the same extent.

EDIT: Also none of Billings, Hunter or McAdam were on anywhere near the salary of any of Schultz, McStay or Houston, not even close.

My overview thoughts about us in the coming immediate seasons are about about transition and growth. In 3 or 4 years the team will be quite different. We need some players to hold down roles whilst others play into them. Thats how I view Brody. If he can facilitate the forwards getting their act together over 2/3 or so years then I think he's worth the shot.

It's footy, nothing is certain. I have a suspicion King may have ticked the box here.

Be interesting to see how this plays.

BM is a free agent so no trade.

I doubt the Spargo comp really matters in such a weak draft doubt his north contract would net us more than round 3 compo anyway

Mihocek IS a free agent. Yes. But you CAN actually make him part of a trade. It all goes to the ramifications of compensations which is I believe what DS was alluding to.

The trade game has it little foibles. More than one way to skin the cat as they say.

Reports say Spargo expected to fetch us end of 2nd round. Mihocek at his age would not fetch any meaningful compo, but I don't know if the money from Mihocek cancels the money out from Spargo.

Other than a goal, Houston was bog ordinary on Saturday and has been the same all year! Massively overated player, glad to say, we dodged a bullet!
