Junk quiz.. who did May (FB) line up on v Filth 🤔 😉

Jamie Elliott, the one Pies forward who routinely kicks goals

It's a no from me. Old, injury-prone, too short. He's not what we need. If we go hunting for a forward at other clubs, I want to see 2m or more.

Pies list management have been streets ahead of us lately. They would have greeter intel than us about his body and how long it can hold up. Let the buyer beware

Seriously? They've offered him 2 years.

As for the first bit, the Pies whose list is built around a handful of gifted father sons plus a handful of geriatrics, who increasingly have trouble getting/staying on the park, those Pies? They're about to fall off a cliff.

Also the amount they paid for McStay, Schulz and Houston almost makes our Hunter, Billings, McAdams deals look good.

Sure but at what salary?

At least McStay, Schulz and Houston are regular senior players.

Really don’t understand why people are against bringing in Mihocek

He’s been playing through a foot injury the last third of the season

If Pies weren’t in finals he likely wouldn’t have been playing at all

Get that right over preseason and at minimum he’ll be a serviceable tall forward for us next year

And if that’s a low bar - it’s because we haven’t had anything close to a serviceable tall forward since Ben Brown

We’re crying out for someone to lead and provide structure to our forward line, while also helping the development of JVR, Jefferson etc

He’ll cost us nothing and will give us cover for a few years

this is right up there with Jack Dyer's - "Bartlett's, he's older than he's ever been before."

He was 24 y.o making his AFL debut so he would easily have 2 years left in the tank.

this narative always confuses me, you mean because he was a less professional athlete for longer hes more likely to last longer as a pro athlete doing the right things to your body? BBB was a mature ager and he barely got to 30. there is no argument here

Gee it's frustrating to see teams like Brisbane pick up key forwards with late picks like Morris and Gallop and watching them thrive, while guys like Jefferson have barely had a taste of AFL football and haven't looked at the level required.

I like Mihocek, and desire his efforts tonight, I genuinely think he'll be good for us next season. But relying on him, a 34 year old Jake Melksham and once again Fritta (I expect Kozzy's contribution to dry up with more midfield time) to kick our goals should be a wake up call to the recruiting department who have been drafting our key forwards with early picks of late.

when drafting key forwards they must have mongrel and c*** about them, when theres a pack or a player in front of them or the ball is kicked too them they need to run through anything and everything and attack that ball like they want it. MJ from day 1 has shown no ability to do that, JVR does a little bit but cant get himself higher than any other hands in the pack or enough seperation from his defender. its my biggest concern about White is that he's a basketball two footed jumper, ball on my head and ill mark it because im taller not a see ball recklessly fly at ball KPP

A mini rebuild and we pick up a 33yo banged up forward that always plays injured

No thanks

Again, the poster was writing Mihocek off based on his performance last night, ie. one game. Experts simply don’t do that. They wouldn’t last long in their jobs if they did.

I think the argument is that AFL is quite taxing on the body, both in season with knocks and niggles, and pre season with heavy loads. A lot of older blokes probably retire because they don’t want to do another pre season. It takes its toll.

So yeah, in theory, Mihocek should be able to go around a little longer than average. I’m still a bit skeptical on the decision to get him though. He can definitely hang around and play a role for a couple of years, and if we were actually contending then it makes sense, but are we? Why is May getting phased out for Adams? Just a bit confused by it all. Signing Lachie Hunter for two years was OK in terms of on field performance but him leaving opened the door for Lindsay to play 20 games this year, which was much more beneficial. Just hope we have a clear plan and Mihocek doesn’t get in the way of a younger player while we go through transition / mini rebuild.

I don't see any better options out there. no better viable trade options anyways.

If he gets the tick from the medical team and the coin is reasonable then worth a go imo.

Weideman was like that as a junior.

Absolutely, they are now, but Collingwood mortgaged their future on them.

Pick 14 and 34 for Schultz

3m over 5 years for McStay (who’s barely been on the park),

Richards, Noble, pick 36 and a massive chunk of salary cap for Houston.

Thats 5 young players including some guns and potential guns for a 31, 28 and 29 year old next year. It got them close but let’s see what it does to their future.

McAdam, Hunter and Billing’s were a huge bust but they only cost us one second round pick and some junk picks, a waste for sure, but not to the same extent.

EDIT: Also none of Billings, Hunter or McAdam were on anywhere near the salary of any of Schultz, McStay or Houston, not even close.

Deluded.

Do we trade for Mihocek if he does come to us? Have to imagine we don't want to dilute the Spargo free agency compensation. Or is Mihocek old enough that it won't be impacted?

Or Lara Bingle’s “When I was younger I was very young.”

She who exclaimed to a paparazzo, “Stop video camera-ing me!”

When it comes to intellect, she’s very pretty 😅

Was he ?? Never saw that in him. He had waxing confidence.... that soon petered out.

Strangely Roo does have it... but possibly its a stronger suit than 'nouse'

My overview thoughts about us in the coming immediate seasons are about about transition and growth. In 3 or 4 years the team will be quite different. We need some players to hold down roles whilst others play into them. Thats how I view Brody. If he can facilitate the forwards getting their act together over 2/3 or so years then I think he's worth the shot.

It's footy, nothing is certain. I have a suspicion King may have ticked the box here.

Be interesting to see how this plays.

BM is a free agent so no trade.

I doubt the Spargo comp really matters in such a weak draft doubt his north contract would net us more than round 3 compo anyway

I dare say you're missing the nuance here.

Mihocek IS a free agent. Yes. But you CAN actually make him part of a trade. It all goes to the ramifications of compensations which is I believe what DS was alluding to.

The trade game has it little foibles. More than one way to skin the cat as they say.

Another Casey bust from me, Spade Dirksen has ten years on Checkers.

Reports say Spargo expected to fetch us end of 2nd round. Mihocek at his age would not fetch any meaningful compo, but I don't know if the money from Mihocek cancels the money out from Spargo.

Other than a goal, Houston was bog ordinary on Saturday and has been the same all year! Massively overated player, glad to say, we dodged a bullet!

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didn’t just beat Gold Coast — they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #29 Tom Campbell

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #30 Harry Sharp

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lions’ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
