    A bit of a fizzer after quarter time.

    Inaccuracy and not great forward delivery. Hard to recall many successful forward leads.

    Too old imo We've already got too many mature aged VFL standard players.

    It's clear that this offseason is make or break for Jefferson. He needs strength and aerobic capacity, and through those attributes, to play with confidence and desire for a contest.

    Billings is a known quantity and will be out of the AFL next year, but if we're serious about winning games to finish the year, he deserves a run based on his VFL form.

    The boys put in another very good team effort today Billings being the standout I enjoyed watching the game day stats and DLand thread, could have been an annihilation but for a bit of wayward kicking after quarter time, Harry Sharp finished well as a sml fwd should. Love these no pressure games.👍😁

    Nah. Have a look at his last goal when he was running to the right fwd pocket.

    He had 3-4 players inside that he could’ve handballed to.

    Once they realised it was him, and he had no intention of sharing the ball, they all stopped.

    All okay if he kicks them from the boundary, over his shoulder all the time – but not exactly the percentage play.

    I think this has also become a problem in the A’s.

    The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026.

    After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game.

    The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.

    Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

    IMG_1912.jpegWith three rounds remaining, Casey occupies ninth position with two challenging matches forthcoming, subsequent to next week’s bye. Their fate is not entirely within their control, following a dominant display culminating in a substantial victory, this time by a margin of 63 points. The Demons will welcome the bye, whilst also closely monitoring the outcomes of some of the games scheduled for the weekend.

    Although they are not yet guaranteed a finals spot, and may regret a few narrow defeats at the hands of lower-ranked teams a few weeks ago, they remain well-placed to secure a wildcard game next month. But for now, it’s a matter of observing how the other contenders perform next week.

      It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

      I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

      The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
