Why have we reached a stage where Maggots and the Media are so compromised that even during games they are publicly humiliated.

Umpires errors form a major timespan of discussion on and off air while Media cliques are forming between groups of Media stalwarts and their buddies.

I’ve noticed you have a fascinating interest with umpiring in each postgame thread.

I can assure you 10,000% that the umpiring department do not get together on a Tuesday night to formulate a strategy on how to rob Melbourne of the 4 points.

Thanks for your input Troy Pannell

North play a lot better away (in melbourne) than their home games (WA/Tassie)

During yesterday’s North game, Nick Dal Santo was the boundary reporter and in the last quarter he said he heard one of the umpires tell the other umpires “We don’t have to save the game.”

Wondering what that means 🤔

Collingwood double the Saints free kick count

Josh Daicos just threw it out of a tackle inside saints f50. Play on!

It must be easy being a Pies supporter when you know it's always stacked in your favour

And AFL bosses love it

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Well, we can probably expect two possibly three major Clubs get normal frees and (benefits of doubt) next week or two. Carlton and Essendon because they are just too hopeless, and Geelong because they had to play Brisbane last week so they deserve a break.

Collingwood situation is at a stage where there should be a revision of rule, plain and simple or we will just call it and the pile on top rule, the Collingwood rules.

There are other rules as well.

Fair call Ethan. We can only wait in joyful anticipation of the day when all four umpires make different decisions simultaneously !

I was trying to work this out how this could happen ... I guess it's as follows:

  1. Free kick Team A

  2. Free Kick Team B

  3. Play on

  4. Ball up

You're welcome.

via useless afl stats on fb, would be nice if we gave kb a shot again…..

Winning with a scoreless last quarter

North Melbourne's win over Carlton yesterday was the 81st time a team won a V/AFL game despite not scoring in the fourth quarter. The Kangaroos were also involved in the last time this happened, when they played Melbourne in Round 15 last year.

3QT: Melbourne 11.4.70 led North Melbourne 5.7.37 by 33 points

Final: Melbourne 11.4.70 def North 10.7.67 by 3 points

North Melbourne have now won six games without scoring in the final quarter. The Shinboners last achieved this feat in Round 7 1958 (when they defeated Collingwood) but also did so the week before (when they defeated Essendon).

Thanks to UAS fan Leigh for sending this question in.

That spray That Voss gave them at 3/4 time is something I want to see from goody some games

Why do you think that would be helpful?

Is that way of thinking based on as though, it's acceptable that he's a coach being punitive to his employees?

Or analogous to the kids have disappointed him? (due to his own expectations, which may be miles off)

Or it shows that he/the team are passionate about winning?

Personally, my lens is that it shows someone who has zero ability to manage emotions when the heat is on... It wouldn't stand for any other workplace, so why is it acceptable in this context.

To think that 'it's football' and gives it a free pass, is an indictment on the culture that IS football.

What we know as a fact, in terms of behavioural change, is that the best motivator in the world is fear... BUT it only ever works for the short term. And is not sustainable long term, people tune out, or disengage. Think of it in terms of someone getting overtly angry at you... how do you respond?

what about 'free kick reversal vs 50m penalty' combined with that.

I have no doubt that it is Faicos and the AFL, VS The rest of the Universe!

With the Suns likely to have a gimme game in Round 23 against the Bombers and the Dogs playing Richmond it could be a very important game for GWS from a final 8 perspective

JUH has come out and described his horrible mental health issues including considering taking his life many times

Pro sports is not an office job, I always find it ridiculous when people try to equate the two.

You're right — pro sports isn’t an office job. The intensity, visibility, and physical demands are unique. But that doesn’t mean we abandon what we know about how people function under pressure. High performance is high performance — whether it's on a field, or off it.

I'm not saying AFL should be run like an HR department. But dismissing the relevance of psychology because "it's not an office" ignores the fact that athletes are still people. They still respond to leadership, emotional cues, stress, fear, and feedback in human ways. And what we know — from decades of research across sectors — is that cultures built on fear or volatility are rarely sustainable. They might produce short-term compliance, but long-term, they cost people and performance.

So no, pro sport isn’t an office — but that’s not a reason to reject the science of what helps humans thrive under pressure. In fact, it’s the very reason we should be doubling down on it.

Nothing wrong with a good spray occasionally.

Players are on Top Coin, if they are not playing to the Coaches instructions, then it’s fully deserved.

I wish Goodwin would let fly at times….

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
