time to bring in kids - i just dont know if we have any!

play the kids

laurie jeffo adams to be given games and see what they are made of

I’m Taking my 10yo to his first game and I’m now thinking we chuck a sickie and head to Ballina driving range instead

Deary me

Time to test/give time to guys for the future. Start with:

in: Jefferson, Laurie (give him an extended run at it)

Out: Melksham, Sparrow

Hoping Adams and Verrall get some games before the end of the year, and more games for Tholstrup.

On repeat. In outs who cares. Not like it makes a difference until you make real change.

One of Turner or May forward. Lindsay or Chandler in the guts. Viney dropped, there needs to be a statement otherwise if theres no accountability it will just keep happening. And its obvious that it is.

Essendon played the kids last night. Its a nice thought but if you subscribe to that ready to lose by 10 goals and lose supporters and crowds.

Goodwin made multiple mentions of our inability to compete aerially in the forward line today.

We must, as a result, drop at least one of Petty, JVR and Melksham.

We can’t drop JVR unless we’re prepared to have Petty do the relief ruckwork, which was disastrous last year, or we bring Johnson back.

I don’t mind Turner forward but we’re doing him no favours by moving him around so much. Of all the “big moves” we could make, I doubt we’ll drop May or Lever so unless we soft drop one of them, I suppose TMac in and then Turner forward to replace Petty could work.

Jeffo for Melksham I suppose.

I’m all for identifying better ball users but Billings isn’t up to AFL level and I don’t think Laurie is either (albeit how could we know for sure as he rarely gets full games).

We’ll probably just drop some kids and bring back Sharp and Tholstrup though, won’t we.

Out.... wgaff

In... whatever

Spin repeat.

Snow's looking better at Buller ( there I said it )

Meanwhile let's line up to spin the chairs on the Titanic

Suns have this.

Melbourne, beyond frustrating

What does “soft drop” mean?

How about Disco forward as a direct swap for Petty?

Melksham looked either uninterested or injured - out for Tholstrup (or Jeffo).

Lindsay needs a rest maybe a couple of weeks with one at Casey.

Is McVee in doubt - TV highlighted his “hit” on whoever - I am sure Christian will look at it in an impartial non partisan manner 😂😂😡😡. On the subject who hit Kozzie behind the play - “nothing to see”.

First quarter I thought that JVR was emerging from his slump though nothing much after that. Enough to stay given his ruck work.

Changes. @Demonland

Make a statement !!

Sparrow.

Rivers.

Melksham.

Sparrow needs a new role He’s had a very hot and cold year On dry days, he fumbles constantly

Riv is one of my favourites This hurts me but he’s lost it for now He turns into trouble He misses tackles He fumbles He kicks high high bombs into 50 where is his run and carry and strength and ability to bullet a pass He had it! He’s lost it We need him to rediscover himself

Melksham He is struggling to move and compete against bigger bodies We cannot play him v key defenders He was killed by Wilkie and Ratugolea Was is Goody thinking ? Time to change to get a taller forward in

If Goodys fair dinkum, they go out.

Ins. Jefferson, Woey jnr, Verrall

We need marking power. Jeffo

We need more run and skill. Woey in. We need to give him his chances over 3 or 4 weeks. Not in, out, in, sub, sub, out.

We need a 2nd ruck. We need to keep JVR forward and not allow a small forward structure to consistently get out marked. Verrall in. Give him a go.

Season is done. Windsor was recruited as a wingman who has high capabilities of playing as a half forward, similar to Gulden in his draft year. Just play him on the wing full time instead of the half hearted half back [censored]. Gulden was never even touted as an on baller, but eventually developed into one of the better ones in the league.

About time we try to find out what other dimensions are in the younger guys for the rest of the season

It probably won’t happen because as long as we are mathematically still in the hunt, Goodwin won’t change a thing, but I would love to see Pickett, Langford, Rivers in the starting opening bounce with Windsor and Lindsay on either wing.

It is about time we release the shackles, do something different and let the kids play and release some pressure.

I don't care who is out but Laurie, van Rooyen and Jefferson must be in the team til the rest of the year to see what they got Tholstrup too.

At least we're not losing this week !!!

I'd drop Viney or play him solely as a small forward. We were right in the game in the second quarter until Viney's indiscriminate kicking out of the centre, more than once, sucked the air out of our game. My concerns about Viney are not based on this game alone. His disposal has been an ongoing problem. His endeavour is not in question, which is why of the two options, I'd play him as a permanent small forward.

I'd replace Viney on-ball with Langford. It's where Langford is going to end up, so let's get him in there now. Windsor can take Langford's position on the wing. For Viney to go forward, one of Sparrow, Chandler or Melksham will have to move. And if the brains trust think Sparrow, Chandler and Melksham all bring more than Viney, then Viney needs to go.

Totally agree on Viney.

He's a very disciplined role player (that stupid 50m aside!). He would suit perfectly the defensive forward role.

We can't have him Clarry and Trac play together in the middle anymore. That's too many one dimensional players who see ball, get ball, bomb ball. It's why Kosi is SO important because he completely changes the look of our midfield.

Viney forward would also free up Chin to play a more attacking role, which is a good thing! He is fast, creative and a decent kick. People are really underestimating his season, but if he can be released to play a bit closer to goal in a more offensive role, he would definitely be hitting the scoreboard more. Right now he pushes up very high, sometimes all the way to half back doing that Nibbler role.

Can’t wait to lose the bye due to poor goal kicking

Why is there not a thread on the bye? I am super looking forward to it.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
