No need to embarrass the Pies just yet

I'm just getting warmed up. Here's another toy that hit the market this year.

Posted in the Casey thread but probably belongs here.

For mine the senior changes looks like

Out: Johnson, Laurie

In: JvR/Jefferson, Culley

Emergcencies: JvR/Jefferson, Howes, Tholstrup

Don't think we need an extra defender in Howes. We'll probably keep the two key forward structure with one of JvR or Jefferson. Tholstrup had an improved game against a meek Sydney but don't think he's done anywhere near enough for a promotion.

Laurie's time at the dees is all but done it appears. Feel for him because he only got a 20min chance in one of our teams worst efforts of the year. Hard to see him being back in selectors thoughts though, particularly when Viney and Spargo return.

My gut is that Melksham will spend some time out after the shoulder stinger

Out: Johnson, Melksham (inj), Laurie

In: JVR, Jefferson, Kolt

Good shout. He didn't look right all game with that shoulder. The club obviously rate Kolt highly and he does bring some forward half pressure so wouldn't surprise to see him back in.

Kolt never should have been dropped. Started to look dangerous against the Eagles, was moved to sub against the Hawks and then dropped.

Brereton wasn’t a thug like Matthews. Matthews was a cowardly thug.

The nastiest player in the last 50 years. A definite coward too. Unfortunately he was feted for it at the time. Society had very weird attitudes towards coward violence back in 70s and 80s.

Hughes and Grinter were choir boys?

Gawd Spargo and Johnson aint best 22! Johnson is a VFL Battler and thats it! Spargo MASSIVELY overated by match commitee

It was celebrated and he was celebrated for being tough.

They made videos on it and the AFL profited from it.

Not like Jeffo, hey... 🤔

JVR will be fine.

We know he can play, he is just having a poor season.

Windsor is having a poor season too, should we dump him?

Yes

The difference between Collingwood and Melbourne’s depth is that Collingwood’s VFL regulars slot in seamlessly under a well coached and well oiled system while we certainly can’t say the same about our squad.

Therefore, while Collingwood’s injury list is larger than ours both in quality and quantity, they have way better depth to cover their lnjuries.

Who could it be , now ?

Some might say Kossie

So, because I mentioned the name of one thug, that means I consider everyone else to be choir boys?

Windsor has played more good games than JVR in half the time. JVR seems stuck in his first season. Next to no improvement since. Please do not play him on Monday.

I'd have loved Brereton to have played for us at his peak.

I remember Bob Skilton called him Bweeton when commentating so he wouldn't have to say Bweweton for two hours straight.

Lethal, not called for nothing.

He and his Neanderthal brethren , esp Dipper, would oft hunt for victims.

Two absolute [censored] examples of almost- humans.

Hughes and Grinter only ever collected opponents in contests in my experience. Matthews routinely dropped blokes behind play. Just ask Stephen Smith. Or Peter Giles.

Matthews was seriously messed in the head.

Watching Brisbane kick themselves to death was compulsive viewing last night, and strangely comforting.

But then I remembered the opening quarter of last year's KB fixture and Disco Turner's strong mark in front of goal about 30 metres out. Kicking from about 40 metres on a very slight angle Disco put the ball out of bounds. It set the tone for the game: zero goals and four behinds in the first term on the way to 6.15 which included four posters.

For the record JvR kicked 3.1, the only forward to have a positive goal-behind ratio. Fritter was the worst at 1.4 and Kozzie marginally better with 2.4. Disco ended with 0.1 plus that OOB.

I only mention this to heighten my own sense of dread, but I thought it best to share.

Hell, I hope we turn up. And fire.

Or Tulip.. saw them clean him up at Artic Park one day. An act that changed my perception of footy forever.

Absolute [censored] act

My son had a schoolmate named Brereton, as in, that was his first name. Brereton had a twin sister named Leigh. When I first met their dad I told him I was curious as to why he named Brereton ‘Brereton’ but named Leigh ‘Leigh’ and not ‘Matthews’ He said, “Because that would be stupid.” I said. “Yeah, THAT would be stupid.” He then said something about barracking for Melbourne being the most stupid. This was in 2013 so to be fair dude had a point. 😅

What has Kolt done at Casey, nothing!!!

Laurie has been really good at Casey & deserves A FULL GAME!!!!!

I don’t blame Goodwin for for our goal kicking, but selection integrity has been been embarrassing under him

  • GAMEDAY: Western Bulldogs

It's Game Day and the Demons will be running out on the field with a new Head Coach, albeit a caretaker, for the first time in 3,060 days when they face the Western Bulldogs at the MCG today. What do you want to see from the Demons in the first match of the Post Simon Goodwin era?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
