    I don’t agree. I actually think their percentage hides their true performance. They regularly only play 1-2 quarters per week.

    Last week they kicked 5 of their 12 goals in the fourth quarter. The week before v Essendon, as you’ve noted, they kicked 2.4 in a half.

    The week before v GWS they kicked 5 goals in the first 10 minutes and then 7 for the rest of the match.

    Against GC it was really just one quarter - 6 goals in the first, 6 for the rest of the match (3 of which came in the last 10 minutes of junk time).

    They were 5 goals down to Port at 3QT (at home) before kicking 5 of their 10 overall goals in the fourth to narrow the margin.

    We’re not good enough yet to be raging favourites but if we bring last week’s form (big if, I know), we should have Sydney’s measure, even (I think) with Mills and Adams back.

    Over on Wobble World they’re talking about the best sauce for hot dogs and how to make your white bread last as long as possible and we’re talking ground dimensions, surface area (taking into account the curvature of the earth). What next, the use of light clocks to properly account for relativity? I’m all for that actually.

    Agree. Not sure how anyone thinks he is a poor kick. Spargo is not back to his 2018-23 kicking level yet but he will get there. His kicking is as good as anyone playing in the forward half. His career goal average is 0.6 v Miers at 0.7. Miers has spent 17% more time on ground in his career as well. He needs more kicks but maybe we just need to accept he will be 7 kicks a game and they will be impactful. As long as he combines that with pressure he shouldn’t be dropped.

    Surprised to read quote ‘His disposal is generally very good…’ His Ying handball must be exemplary as Yang kicking is at best described as ordinary. Goal kicking is hit the side of barn stuff and field kicking gyroscope is frequently awry. IMV his in close work and tackling is a strength as is his contested marking. Slow? he is a big bodied midfielder big strides but he’s no Patrick Cripps.

    Their injury and suspension list is significant. You could say that they are missing 6 of their top 10 players. Would be disappointing if we were to lose to them

    A lot still holding for Fritta as sub.

    I guess as good as he was it was only one quarter so fair enough. Maybe keep him angry. Melksham can lend him some agro juice too.

    Viney has to come in so I guess Sharp is the unlucky one.

    Other than that as my dad would say "don't monkey about with a working monkey."

    I just wish I'd have once asked him what it meant . I miss him.

    On occasions I have been critical of his disposal, but in the weeks leading up to his concussion he was very good. I am convinced that he is pivotal to the side and he would be a definite in if fit. Unequivically he would play before Spargo!

    I definitely think Swans are underrated.

    Much like us, their best on a given day is good enough to knock off the top teams.

    So this will be a tough one . As good as Melksham was, we can't rely on him every week to boot four goals. And I'm guessing Fritta will be Sub but will come in much earlier this time.

    Swans have several Frittas so to speak,that in form can all win a game off their own boot so here's hoping all our defenders are in top form.

    Yes Kozzy but if we start sending Kozzy to others you can kiss alot of the most important side of his game away. Not for mine ty.

    Isn't Spazz supposedly one of our quickest on certain trials? If so why aren't we blooding him into a regular go-to tagger when needed such as this match up?

    He doesn't bring enough on the attacking side already so surely if we are playing him his value lies in this type of role?

    We have Brown dog as a potential option also.

    Lever comes in, too good not to play, and I don’t think we’ll be resting anyone that doesn’t have a niggle as we try climbing the ladder.

    AJ stays in for mine, don’t want Disco or Petty getting hurt playing 2nd ruck.

    I’d say Sharp goes out for Lever and we shuffle a few around, maybe Windsor further up the ground.

    Wouldn’t mind seeing Culley in for Spargo, bigger body. I’d say his naming is a reward for doing the right things at Casey but he won’t come in for a few weeks.

    Good point re Kozzie Dd.

    For me KP is there to gather possessions and boot his usual goal contribution and it's always about the opposition keeping up with him.

      Having convincingly defeated last year’s premier and decisively outplayed the runner-up with 8.2 in the final quarter, nothing epitomized the Melbourne Football Club’s performance more than its 1.12 final half, particularly the eight consecutive behinds in the last term, against a struggling St Kilda team in the midst of a dismal losing streak. Just when stability and consistency were anticipated within the Demon ranks, they delivered a quintessential performance marked by instability and ill-conceived decisions, with the most striking aspect being their inaccuracy in kicking for goal, which suggested a lack of preparation (instead of sleeping in their hotel in Alice, were they having a night on the turps) rather than a well-rested team. Let’s face it - this kicking disease that makes them look like raw amateurs is becoming a millstone around the team’s neck.

      The Casey Demons were always expected to emerge victorious in their matchup against the lowly-ranked Sydney Swans at picturesque Tramway Oval, situated in the shadows of the SCG in Moore Park. They dominated the proceedings in the opening two and a half quarters of the game but had little to show for it. This was primarily due to their own sloppy errors in a low-standard game that produced a number of crowded mauls reminiscent of the rugby game popular in old Sydney Town. However, when the Swans tired, as teams often do when they turn games into ugly defensive contests, Casey lifted the standard of its own play and … it was off to the races. Not to nearby Randwick but to a different race with an objective of piling on goal after goal on the way to a mammoth victory. At the 25-minute mark of the third quarter, the Demons held a slender 14-point lead over the Swans, who are ahead on the ladder of only the previous week's opposition, the ailing Bullants. Forty minutes later, they had more than fully compensated for the sloppiness of their earlier play with a decisive 94-point victory, that culminated in a rousing finish which yielded thirteen unanswered goals. Kicks hit their targets, the ball found itself going through the middle and every player made a contribution.

      Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds. 
      This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
