JV7 not playing, so itโ€™s been 3 weeks and he is not quite right. Then I am thinking there is no way known he should play again next year and he needs very careful management for the rest of this year.

But I am pleased that if there is any doubt he was not picked. You cannot run your head into brick walls and expect to do if forever.

What? You dont think he should play at all next year?

Yes

Binman: I think your missing drevs point ds - as I noted it's also 5 metres narrower. Which means there's less area.

@D Rev is clearly talking about going straight to goal from the centre bounce. Nothing to do with the width of the ground or overall dimensions.

Apologies DS, apologies I missed the original quote.

Ironic given the massive score a KP tonight.

As you probably know, I've been asking for Viney to play a forward role for 5 years, but they never do it. There's always a chance they start it this week.

While i'm not suggesting he is being played in a dedicated forward role, there is enough evidence in Viney's last three matches (prior to concussion) to suggest that he is now playing significantly more time inside 50 already.

At least vs his first 5 matches anyway.

The original stated return was said to be 2 games at Casey. He played half a game last week. I expect he will be at Casey again this week. With an ankle injury he would have had little running over the last 2 months.

According to supporters st the Casey game he literally played 20 mins of each qrt ,,, He also said (Lever) he would play one game at Casey โ€ฆif everything was ticked off with coaches ..into the firsts

Possible team

B: Lever, May, McVee

HB: Salem, McDonald, Bowey

C: Windsor, Oliver, Langdon

HF: Sparrow, Turner, Petracca

F: Melksham, Petty, Chandler

FOLL: Gawn, Rivers, Pickett

IC: Lindsay, Langford, Spargo, Johnson

SUB: Fritsch

I think Sydney have been pretty rock solid this year as evidenced by a competitive percentage of 99 amidst a bad run with injury and suspension.

There's only two games that they've let themselves down in and that's the second of the GC game and the first half of the Essendon game. The rest of the games they've been fine. In fact it's a little hard to believe we're on the same amount of wins as them.

Therefore, I'd expect Sydney to be a very hard nut to crack Sunday and we need to lead early and be accurate.

Despite our tremendous win last week, I think the bookies have it correct with Sydney slight favs.

I donโ€™t agree. I actually think their percentage hides their true performance. They regularly only play 1-2 quarters per week.

Last week they kicked 5 of their 12 goals in the fourth quarter. The week before v Essendon, as youโ€™ve noted, they kicked 2.4 in a half.

The week before v GWS they kicked 5 goals in the first 10 minutes and then 7 for the rest of the match.

Against GC it was really just one quarter - 6 goals in the first, 6 for the rest of the match (3 of which came in the last 10 minutes of junk time).

They were 5 goals down to Port at 3QT (at home) before kicking 5 of their 10 overall goals in the fourth to narrow the margin.

Weโ€™re not good enough yet to be raging favourites but if we bring last weekโ€™s form (big if, I know), we should have Sydneyโ€™s measure, even (I think) with Mills and Adams back.

Over on Wobble World theyโ€™re talking about the best sauce for hot dogs and how to make your white bread last as long as possible and weโ€™re talking ground dimensions, surface area (taking into account the curvature of the earth). What next, the use of light clocks to properly account for relativity? Iโ€™m all for that actually.

I often think this forum is intellectually stimulating ... and then someone mentions Champion Data.

Agree. Not sure how anyone thinks he is a poor kick. Spargo is not back to his 2018-23 kicking level yet but he will get there. His kicking is as good as anyone playing in the forward half. His career goal average is 0.6 v Miers at 0.7. Miers has spent 17% more time on ground in his career as well. He needs more kicks but maybe we just need to accept he will be 7 kicks a game and they will be impactful. As long as he combines that with pressure he shouldnโ€™t be dropped.

Some decent inclusions for Sydney.

Doubt Culley or Laurie make it, interested to see who goes out for Lever.

No Viney. Hopefully they're just being extra cautious, which I'd love, and it's nothing serious.

Good about Viney So no change is possible maybe give Lever or May a day off

Culley looked very average last week. Heโ€™s a big too slow in a midfield role and actually was poor in the tackle and chase. His disposal is generally very good but thatโ€™s at a VFL level.

Surprised to read quote โ€˜His disposal is generally very goodโ€ฆโ€™ His Ying handball must be exemplary as Yang kicking is at best described as ordinary. Goal kicking is hit the side of barn stuff and field kicking gyroscope is frequently awry. IMV his in close work and tackling is a strength as is his contested marking. Slow? he is a big bodied midfielder big strides but heโ€™s no Patrick Cripps.

Their injury and suspension list is significant. You could say that they are missing 6 of their top 10 players. Would be disappointing if we were to lose to them

Actually not good at all re Viney. Vibes of Angus ? ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ˜ก

A lot still holding for Fritta as sub.

I guess as good as he was it was only one quarter so fair enough. Maybe keep him angry. Melksham can lend him some agro juice too.

Viney has to come in so I guess Sharp is the unlucky one.

Other than that as my dad would say "don't monkey about with a working monkey."

I just wish I'd have once asked him what it meant . I miss him.

Interesting regarding Viney, even if he was 100% I wouldnโ€™t fit him in, Iโ€™m not convinced .

On occasions I have been critical of his disposal, but in the weeks leading up to his concussion he was very good. I am convinced that he is pivotal to the side and he would be a definite in if fit. Unequivically he would play before Spargo!

I definitely think Swans are underrated.

Much like us, their best on a given day is good enough to knock off the top teams.

So this will be a tough one . As good as Melksham was, we can't rely on him every week to boot four goals. And I'm guessing Fritta will be Sub but will come in much earlier this time.

Swans have several Frittas so to speak, that in form can all win a game off their own boot so here's hoping all our defenders are in top form.

Thanks for letting me know wwsw. Appreciative but disappointed.

Yes Kozzy but if we start sending Kozzy to others you can kiss alot of the most important side of his game away. Not for mine ty.

Isn't Spazz supposedly one of our quickest on certain trials? If so why aren't we blooding him into a regular go-to tagger when needed such as this match up?

He doesn't bring enough on the attacking side already so surely if we are playing him his value lies in this type of role?

We have Brown dog as a potential option also.

ย

Lever comes in, too good not to play, and I donโ€™t think weโ€™ll be resting anyone that doesnโ€™t have a niggle as we try climbing the ladder.

AJ stays in for mine, donโ€™t want Disco or Petty getting hurt playing 2nd ruck.

Iโ€™d say Sharp goes out for Lever and we shuffle a few around, maybe Windsor further up the ground.

Wouldnโ€™t mind seeing Culley in for Spargo, bigger body. Iโ€™d say his naming is a reward for doing the right things at Casey but he wonโ€™t come in for a few weeks.

Good point re Kozzie Dd.

For me KP is there to gather possessions and boot his usual goal contribution and it's always about the opposition keeping up with him.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.ย  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.ย  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.ย  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.ย

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.

  • CASEY: Northern Bullants

The Casey Demons travelled to a windy Cramer Street, Preston yesterday and blew the Northern Bullants off the ground for three quarters before shutting up shop in the final term, coasting to a much-needed 71-point victory after leading by almost 15 goals at one stage. It was a pleasing performance that revived the Demonsโ€™ prospects for the 2025 season but, at the same time, very little can be taken from the game because of the weak opposition. These days, the Bullants are little more than road kill. The once proud club, situated behind the Preston Market in a now culturally diverse area, is currently facing significant financial and on-field challenges, having failed to secure a win to date in 2025.
