I was at the game and was surprised at the number of Hawks supporters. There were 50,000 supporters overall and l reckon half of them were Hawks.AMD I presume they had to pay to get in.

It definitely felt like we were outnumbered. I was there as well and it felt like there were way more of them than us.

They were probably expecting a big kill, given the relative ladder positions.

They are top 4 and we are bottom 4

Not sure it’s a surprise they outnumbered our supporters who do have a tendency to drop off if we aren’t playing well

It was a Hawthorn member make up home game. So there were a lot there. There's probably not a more fair-weather supporter base than Hawthorn's. They're used to winning flags and don't turn up when they're losing. They don't even turn up when they're winning flags if it's a bit cold and a bad timeslot. In Round 11, 2014, on the way to a 3peat, they managed only 17,906 at the MCG against GWS.

'Adam', I always say that I know the 10 Hawthorn supporters personally and a couple of them have since passed on.

The rest are all fair-weather, band wagoners...

felt 50/50 to me

we have 22k or so rusted on who turn up every week as attendees, the rest was probably up-and-about dingley and neutrals

god they're obnoxious tho - dudes in afl members in cubicle hunters spent the whole time watching the racing, getting up and down to get more drinks, and had little idea of who their players were

I think you find that the average attendance at Dees v Hawks games over the past 5 years or more has been around 40k.

They turn up when it's a Hawks home game, and for the past 5 or 6 years (maybe more) it's been a 'make up' game given they play 2 or 3 home games in Tassie.

The bandwagoners...

They were very quiet from QTR 2 halfway through middle of the last quarter, those cheats.

Downhill riders the lot of them.

They don't even bother to support when the underdog Demons were dominating the game yesterday.

I was saying yesterday Collingwood and Hawthorn are the two worst supporter groups to go to a game against.

Collingwood, because they're feral and generally aggressive. Hawthorn, because they're the smarmiest supporters in the league.

The past 7 years were glorious, and we should have continued the streak against those pretenders.

I thought we were also comprehensively outnumbered (at least from a noise perspective) at our Anzac Eve home game.

50,000 was a good crowd number yesterday considering most crowds between the two sides have been high 30’s - low 40’s over the last 10-15 years.

Simply not true.

Less true of us than any other club.

I must be looking at the wrong AFL ladder atm - we are 15th and frankly that’s a pretty fair reflection of where we are at atm

It was a Hawthorn members game too, a repayment game for missing out on home game in Adelaide, that’s why there’s so many hawturds there

I suspect the bolded part of the text which I highlighted might not have been clear enough on the screen.

If there is a more “white-collar” supporter base than us, then it’s Hawthorn.

That was Essendon supporters as well back in Sheedy's day, but the past 20 years has wiped that out of them.

Oh dear.. the irony in some of the comments on here having a crack at opposition crowd numbers.... 🤣

It was a Hawthorn member make up home game. They also have over 20,000 more members than us, so if they didn't have more supporters there it would be a shock.

Hawks supporters are fair-weather. Dees supporters are among the most loyal there are. The narrative we don't turn up is demonstrably false and I'm [censored] sick of it. Hawks had an average match crowd of less than 3000 more than us last year. That's in a year where they made a semi final and we finished bottom 14th.

At least it was a good crowd !! Hopefully Dees get good revenue out of this match

70,000 Anzac Eve v tigers

Expect 70,000+ for ladder leader pies v dees for the Kings birthday game

The journos love hitting the Dees when we only get 20,000 odd for a Suns or Giants game at the MCG. Dees are the only club that play Suns or Giants at the MCG this year ! And we had Freo at the MCG, again only 25000! It’s overall a terrible financial fixture for us this year and have more lower crowds likely to come for Dees v Kangas v Eagles 😭😭
