Who is better than last year?

Well obviously Langford and Lindsay are good footballers. Langford was sore after the first 10 minutes and played a blinder. Lindsay can get the ball, and coming off a restricted pre season is going well. The same for Windsor who actually qualifies for the 2nd year blues.

Kolt is still work in progress.

Roo has gone backwards but does have talent.

Jeffo has improved but not sure he is up to standard yet.

Can I say max is playing like a youngster?

Todays AGE stated that incorrect umpiring cost us 2 goals.

Also that you dont have to stop the Dees scoring, we do that ourselves.

Turner should have started forward...said it prior to game saying it now. JVR.not doing it Jefferson not up to it...

Those selections were abysmal! Still should have won.

What a muck up!!!

Quite a few in the game day thread were shouting out for this

Even at half time after Jeffo, Jvr and Fritta had kicked zero goals ( and none for the entire game) I don't think he was moved until the third.

Goody does seem to get stuck in his ways at times. Often slow to make fairly clear and necessary changes.

It was frustrating to see us not take contested marks inside fifty. Also Turner is a very good set shot while so many were missing easy ones.

Given that Fritta and Jvr had recently been relegated to the twos due to low form and Jeffo playing a handful of games, I'm not sure where Goody thought all our goals would come from.

At least Langford was a pleasant surprise.

Should have been 5 up.

The expected score at three quarter time had us 5 goals up i think.

I took my young son to the MCG on Saturday for this game (beautiful sunny day for it). I never get to watch a game closely with him by my side due to the requests for food, drinks, bathroom trips etc 😁 But I will try to watch some of the replay tonight (or at least the Kayo highlights).

Despite the scoreline and the last quarter fade outs I thought the Dees were very competitive, actually dominated in parts and could have gone onto to win this if the set shot kicking was better.

Disappointing result and the scoreline flatters the Dingley Hawks tbh.

PS - there should a strictly enforced rule at the MCG about adults not permitted to wear wizard hats. I am a fairly tolerant soul, don't care what other people think, do or wear but wizard hats should be strictly verboten!

PS - my son enjoyed the mini-golf near Gate 3 (it did eat into our 1st quarter viewing significantly, lol).

Yes let move him back and forwards continuously like Turner and Petty and really stuff their career

Take your point but right now there's not as much of a career to stuff.

We will never attract anyone of note training out of Casey and then Gosch's for a captain's run.

Our main oval has an accompanying shelter at Gosch's for the players and coaches to place our equipment bags and players joggers under.

Does that scream out world class facilities to a potential recruit on top of his wages?

This is a major reason we can't recruit quality players.

Harvey Langford received 8 coaches votes if you don’t mind.

Only 8

One of the few genuine gems for us.

Jeffo Airplane, Langford and the Spreadsheet didn't play for the MFC last year.

I recon there's two players better than last year. The rest continue to stagnate or go backwards. No wonder we're stuffed. Outside of Meth Coke and Norf, the rest of the comp is cruising on 110 while we are trying to crank a 1954 Morris Oxford with a broken choke.

Chol and Peter Wright are two who would've filled a massive hole as key forwards and 2nd ruck. We may have asked and been knocked back but the fact we were never linked to either in the media tells me we probably never bothered.

I'm sure there are others and they are not world beaters but they do ok and would have complemented us nicely.

After twenty plus years somoene finally uses "complemented", instead of "complimented". You must have gone to Melbourne Grammar, Dr Gonzo.

Simon’s refusal to shift Turner is odd. His instrangience is a continued blight

He just doesn't read the moment...living on hope.

A good coach needs to pull the levers quickly !

He doesn't...That's bad!!!!

Turner had 11 marks for the day. In the last quarter after he was moved ... 1.

Hawthorn managed 7 goals in 3 quarters with Turner in the back line. And then 6 in a quarter after he was moved.

You don't move players who are winning their positions.

Did the AFL come out and admit that the Kosi goal was missed? Normally with the amount of media spotlight on it, and if it happened to a big Melbourne club they would comment.

They don't comment unless it has a direct impact on the result.

What a nice compliment.

Sorry if this has been covered already but at (I think) three quarter time I noticed Judd McVee standing away from the final huddle. He was given encouraging pats from one or two trainers and when he joined the huddle he seemed doubled-over the whole time. Anyone know what happened there? Illness maybe?

Shortly after the team came out from half time and were doing little runs near the Punt Rd end 50m line, McVee was hunched over for about 5 mins throwing up liquid. It was 30 metres in front of us, he didn’t look well at all.

What do you mean by his refusal to shift Turner (i assume you mean shift him forward)?

Didn't he do so when Jefferson was taken off?

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
