What are your thoughts on our forward make up? I have never believed Fritsch and Melksham work in the same fwd line and i still believe this to be the case.

Whilst neither really deserve to be dropped i think based on earlier form Fritsch should make way, we also need 2 talls i believe, just playing 1 make it a little to obvious where we are going.

Very happy with the kids, Windsor has it and will only get better, Langford is going to be one of those players that you don't really notice in game then look up his stats and he has had 30, Lindsay had a quiet game but has class and poise and Kolt is almost there, just some skill errors at the wrong times but he is in the right areas at important times, think he is going to be a Gem!

Big week this week, i don't expect to win but i want a good effort where we can see the game plan work against a top team.

A question about our last quarters. Yes we won one finally but not in a very convincing way. DO you think we're just not fit enough... or are there other factors. eg Kolt off a long injury break, Lindsey and Langford are still just first year players, Trac and Oliver coming from a long way back etc. So the heart of the question is, in your opinion, were we not trained in the right kind of way for 2025 OR are we just carrying players that for one unavoidable reason or other haven't got the tank.

We really need to savor every game Max plays from now until boots hang up day.

Recency bias can be a bit warped but where does he sit in MFC history? Can you make a realistic case for greatest Dee ever or is top 3 more realistic?

For me top 3 undoubtedly now. Barass had the glittering achievements, Flower was obviously the best in bad teams, Max is somewhere in the middle.

None of the following will be new to Dees fans, but the Melksham "incident" and related commentary gives me the irrits. Melksham goes for the ball, uses his body (not arms) and takes the mark. McGovern get bumped out of the way, and collides with Petty, who was dangerously pushed into the contest by Ginbey. But the West Coast parrots who pass for commentators reckon Melksham could be suspended? I was pleasantly suprised that Goody defended Melksham in the presser, and stated that he thought it was a mark to Melksham (ie not even a free kick) and that the reason for Petty's concussion needed to be equally scruntinised. What are your thoughts?

And don't get me started on the high contact free and fifty to Viney which lead to a goal. Surely that is at least as worth of discussion? But of course it was a Melbourne player on the receiving end, so ... crickets.

watching it love has given me more opportunity to comment.

Are we developing the ability to sling shot out of defence, as the players and their run indicates no. Lack of movement and run to create the handball chains. (He gales managed it more than once) Yes the eagles were defensive, but so are all teams to enact a quick break. As result we move slow allowing for a. contested forward entry.

How important has Melks become in receiving across the 50 and delivering with advantage to our forwards.

Finally, Fritta, does work hard enough or support his teammates without the ball, a few times he cold have run to Shepards players coming into 50 to allow them to settle and kick, but choose to run away hoping for a receive. JVR would have been a better inclusion if he has his touch back, especially combined with the lack of height in our forward line. I assume as it's ongoing the coaching staff are allowing this as his behaviour has not changed.

Huge thanks for fronting up week after week guys. Love the Pods!

I know predicting selections is difficult with uncertainties surrounding Melky and Clarrie, but I’d like to hear your thoughts on JVR or AJ for Petty? ……. or perhaps both if Disco goes back?

Max Gawn needs to be in the conversation as one of the greatest Demons players ever doesn't he? He was totally dominant against West Coast.

I was impressed with Daniel "Disco" Turner's game kicking 3 goals. Should we persist with him in the forward line or play him in defence?

What are your thoughts on Kade Chandler's game? I thought Kade Chandler was excellent and really had an impact. He is playing consistent football.

Hopefully Clayton Oliver returns to the team this week? We all need to wrap our arms around him and support him during this difficult time.

fify

When goody says our improvement has come through what we are doing off the ball, what specifically does he mean ??

Looking forward to the DL pod this week

3 wins on the trot, but to be honest, versus some lightweight opposition (still you can only beat who’s your opponent). HUGE TEST V HAWKS NEXT WEEK !

Eagles match. “Game of two halves”. Shocking 1st half. Much much better run and attack in the 2nd half. A decent 5 goal victory after poor first half

What I enjoyed?

1- Max Gawn. Our legend. Our hero. Our leader. What a champion.

2- Kade Chandler. He’s desire. His run and carry. His goal sense. Has taken up the high half forward role from nibbler. In career best form.

3- Windsors goal in the 3rd. Run and run and goal. Loved it

Honorable mentions to

Ed Langdon. He’s in very good form. Run run run.

Jake Melksham. His smart use of the footy and his goal from 50 out. Not young anymore but very smart footballer.

Winning A 4th Quarter. Wow 6 goals and didn’t stop running. We didn’t get lazy.

Stats file

Clearances 49 to 26 (built from Gawns domination)

Tackles in fwd50…17

marks inside50… 16

💔1st half 3 goals 27 inside50s. Wish we had a real tall key forward

💔turnovers 70 !! Skills still a problem

The “what I didn’t enjoy” file

  • Eagles 5 goals in a row (in 2ndqtr + early 3rd qtr)

  • Seeing Hunt run and run in full flight. I’d like to still see him in red and blue!

  • Scofield commentary over the Melksham incident “I’ve seen multiple weeks suspensions for less”… he’s a grub. In fact the biased commentary was very hard to take.

And finally a question - likely team changes If Petty … Will either or perhaps both JVR & AJ come in?

Go Dees

Can we play West Coast every week?

There’s been some debate on the podcast about whether Jack Viney is playing a traditional tagging role, but regardless of the label, one thing’s clear: after a quiet start to the season, Jack has turned back the clock over the past three weeks. He’s been a relentless bull in the midfield, delivering some of his best footy. This is the exact response and leadership you want to see from your senior players.

Early in the 2023 season, Kade Chandler was winning praise for his career-best form, regularly hitting the scoreboard as a dangerous small forward. In 2025, he’s gone to another level in a new high half-forward role. This week he racked up a career-high 26 disposals, and he's averaging three more touches per game than last year. With the loss of Nibbler , we've desperately needed someone to fill that high-workrate, two-way role pushing hard defensively up the field and still being able to work back to provide that pressure in the forward half and also hit the scoreboard. I'm absolutely loving what 2025 Kade Chandler is bringing.

Thanks Andy, George and Binman for another great listen, also all posters for their great questions and comments. I think that we are all a bit anxious about the Hawks this week and we’re all hoping that our boys can continue to fight our way back. The Ins will be so important this week, I also hope that Rooey gets a gig.

Another outstanding Pod folks. My only ‘believable’ access to the real world of the AFL. Huge thanks for all your hard work. Go Dees!

Love the pod. Great stuff as usual.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.

The Demons are finally back at the MCG and finally back on the winners list as they continually chipped away at a spirited Kangaroos side eventually breaking their backs and opening the floodgates to run out winners by 6 goals.
