Will justice be done?

The chances are likely given Nash is not a name player.

But who knows. The Hawks also have long tentacles that might still have some influence at HQ

I left the room and came back to a Geelong player wobbling horribly as he was helped from the ground.

Commentators obviously not going to make a fuss about a Hawthorn player being a thug, so I've got no idea what actually happened.

Can anyone fill me in?

Was it as serious as Kozzie near-fatal bump on Moore?

If he gets 3 weeks kozzie should have got about 1 minute

Hawthorn collecting a nice group of tugs

Just like the 1970’s….

Big swinging round arm, flush to the jaw.

Miers was out instantly

Nash knocks out Miers. 👏👏but that’s 6 weeks minimum

Atkins. Drops knee into Newcombe head. Atkins is a [censored]. Deserves 1 week

Both will test MRO and the AFL favouritism

Sicily is one of the biggest whingers in the game. Pretty much like Hawk supporters insufferable.

Agree. Umps love the cats

Miers kicks it 12 metres and it’s a mark !!

Holmes throws the footy with two hands - play on

Miers in protected zone !!! Intercept

Ridiculous umpiring

A bee in my bonnet is when an opposition player follows another through the protected zone then proceeds to engage with the player with ball.

This should be an automatic 50 even after called to play on. The player should be required to clear the protected zone before re engaging if he enters the protected zone.

Obvious holding the ball or throw from Hawks, play on, goes forward to Watson who grabs a bouncing ball and throws himself forward at Smith to get a high free. Really?

Anything under 4 weeks is blatant favouritism.

Was it pressure or a bad case of the fumbles

An almost comical last five minutes supported by the Fox commentator with every cliche known

The response is exceeedingly patronising, literally mansplaining it back to me. It’s assuming that I know absolutely nothing about football. That’s what mansplaining is, without any evidence it’s been assumed I have no background knowledges and I need things explained to me

I’ll break it down for you

It's not hard to understand ...he plays for himself. Culture killer. Yes, I watch football and am aware that Jack Ginnivan is an extremely selfish player

The best clubs understand that a team is a mix of people and personalities as much as football or positional abilities. Again, I have watched VFL/AFL football for 38 years, I am aware that teams need a balance of personalities & selfish players are not great teammates

The pies are very strong and well run club and have a bold FD that act on what they are seeing. For the third time, anyone nuffie enough to be posting in a footy forum is likely to know that Collingwood are a well run club

He's been OK at the Hawks in a team they were trying to inject personality into. Now they're getting serious he'll fall by the wayside. As I mentioned earlier, I watch footy & I know Ginnivan had a decent 2024 but hasn’t had a great start to season 2025

And after all of that my original question wasn’t answered. What I want to know is why Collingwood were happy to let go of a premiership player, one who they publicly supported on many occasions.

You've lost so much respect today.

Massively projecting.

I watched the last quarter of the Cats v Hawks game, they are calling it a classic. (Hyperbole at its peak). Really ordinary skills in a slow game, players not chasing just watching. My opinion I know, but I though it was bog ordinary, just because it's a close game doesn't make it a classic.

The first half was much better and a lot of the 3rd quarter as well

But the last quarter was a slog with a lot of congestion & stoppages and mistakes

As an overall spectacle I'd give it about 6.5 out of 10. Maybe a 7

Dangerfield was the difference in my view. Not B.O.G but very influential

Thanks Macca, I didn't get to see the first 3 quarters, but I'm getting tired of the phrases "Blockbuster" and "Young Gun" seems it fits every game and player these days

Why because I didn’t meekly sit back and thank the poster for patronising me?

Besides that, who are you that I want your respect

Is Frostie injured or just surplus to requirements now that the Hawks are a good side again?

A. Hawks supporter said they have picked a smaller side and he is a reserve.

What about Smith's unprovoked hit to the head of Impey with the footy, while he had his back turn. At least Nash was in the field of play and he clumsily knocked Miers out.

Smith should be graded as intentional and low impact, which I believe is a 1 week suspension.

How else can it be graded?

100% agree with the grading and sanction you’ve posted, but, you just know that the MRP will grade it as ‘insufficient force’ (or whatever the term they use is) and he’ll receive a fine at most.

What I gleaned out of today's game was the style of play ... not that many dump kicks forward and a lot of handpassing and sharing of the ball (both teams) The extra handpass was in operation all day

So how do we measure up is the big question?

Right now, given the improvement that can be expected with the new game plan, we can compete hard against the 2 teams that played today, in my view

Sure, the Cats beat us easily but we were ill-prepared in that game in so many aspects. Our style of play that day was below par and the coaching poor

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
