The palyers at Casey are not better than this 23

Sure.. If all 23 players are playing their best footy. But most of them are not. And there are blokes busting their guts in the VFL that deserve a crack.

We’re crying out for a bloke that can take a mark & Fullerton has taken 25 marks in 3 weeks & kicked 10 goals. He has EARNED a call up.

We’re crying out for forward half pressure. Kynan Brown had 26 tackles in 3 weeks. He has EARNED a call up.

JVR had 1 mark last week. Sharp had 2 tackles. Where the HECK is our selection integrity. Goodwin has NFI!

Happy with the changes, Lindsay in is a plus, and backing the players in to get the job done sends a strong internal message on what's expected.

The idea that we have fringe and developing players running round in the two's who'd make any more than a marginal, move-the-deckchairs difference is just delusional.

Fullarton, Brown? At least give you something more than Spargo or Sharp. The Disco dropped when we are lacking at our fwd line?

I'm hopeful they've done some review of the forward line and will be asking Fritta or Melk to play like the 2nd tall. I assume they think smaller players will expose the dons weak backline.

I still can’t work out the Fullarton non selection. What kind of message does it send that you can kick 10 goals and take a bunch of marks in 3 VFL games but still not get selected in the AFL’s worst forward line?

Once again we’re setting JVR up for failure as he has to lead this impotent forward line.

Yet, furthermore we also drop a player who actually has an ounce of goal kicking craft and isn’t allowed to string 2 games together while others like Sharp and Spargo have a golden pass off doing next to nothing this season.

I’m really concerned where we are heading under Simon Goodwin.

Harry Sharp is on par with Tom Gillies as one of te worst melbourne player i have ever seen and yet he stays in.

Melksham is officially cooked has barely had an impact and he stays in.

Fritta has been absolutely horrific and has been called out by ex footy greats for his selfish attitude but yet he stays.

Goodwin is the most stubborn coach going around. He is delusional in his method and inability to clear out the mediocrity that has creeper in by the same players..they have been left to get away with the same [censored] every week.

No wonder Petracca has had a gut full.

WE all have had a gutful,! Well Brad, what u gonna do?

You have a minority of supporters who are as delusional as the coach.

Head in sand stuff.

This where you lose me.

You hold absolutist views and don't appear to appreciate there are layers to selection. Yes, stability is important. Yes, the players not in last week's 23 who are available (other than Lindsay) are fringe players.

But where you see "backing the players in to get the job done", most of the rest of us see out-of-form, or even worse, not-playing-their-role players who are continuing to be selected. Repeatedly playing players who are out of form or not playing their role sends bad messages everywhere.

Is there sufficient pressure on Sharp, or Spargo, or Melksham, to lift their games, when they continue to be picked?

Is there sufficient motivation for Fullarton, Laurie, Brown and Woewodin to keep busting their gut at Casey, when they never get picked and/or only get picked as sub?

Further, you say you're happy with the changes, which presumably means you're happy with Turner being dropped. Why does Turner only get one game to try to fit in with the side, when stability is so important?

So yes, stability is important. I accept that there is merit to giving the core of our side more time to work together - forward cohesion requires the mids understanding the forwards and vice versa, and that is harder to develop if we keep changing the personnel. But this has to be balanced against form. Stability cannot, with your level of absolutism, always trump form.

You might want to just expand a little Dazzle

Do you think the minimal change this week suffices?

They are supporters of the Goodwin FC, not the MFC.

Meanwhile how can any of us have any confidence that the FD knows how to improve our forward half woes, when we don't appear to even know how we want to line up in the forward half?

Round 1 we went with JVR, Jefferson and AJ. AJ relief rucked, during which we had JVR and Jefferson.

Round 2 we went with JVR, Jefferson and Turner. JVR relief rucked, during which we had Jefferson and Turner (until Jefferson got injured).

Round 3 we went with JVR and AJ. AJ relief rucked, during which we had just JVR, until the fourth quarter when we also sent Petty forward.

Round 4 we went with JVR and Turner. JVR relief rucked, during which we had just Turner.

Round 5 we are going with just JVR. When he relief rucks...?

AJ's suspension and Jefferson's injury have obviously mucked around with our plans, but to me this is all over the shop.

I’m not thrilled with the selection either but no need to have a go at people because they see it a bit differently.

Give Goodwin enough rope and it’s only a matter of time. Or at least I bloody hope so.

There are some people, in my personal opinion, for whom Goodwin can do no wrong.

My sole interest is the future of the club, and Goodwin won't be part of that future.

He had a very good record at Norward I think. He’s not the problem.

Boo hoo he didn’t pick Fullarton. Oh well, I’d rather have JVR in, he’s out of touch but getting his hands to the ball. Once it clicks he’ll be back.

“Send a message!!!” - I’m sure they get the message, no one likes playing bad and losing. They know they need to lift, maybe some would benefit from beating up on some VFL dew kickers but the coaches and selectors know the players better than I do.

Sharp is probably closest to the chopping block than the others for me. Henderson hits targets (although annoyingly not many i50), we’ve got enough smalls. Brown and Woey Jnr are small too so I think we’re stuck with him until Kolt is back to give another decent sized option.

Fritter should have been dropped.

Goodwin is frozen

Or Petty.

Pathetic from the selectors and Goodwin

Virtually no changes at all

Spargo - does nothing and still gets a game (negative 2 in SuperCoach)

JVR - needs to go back and get confidence

Melksham needs a game at Casey

Ins Lindsay, Fullarton, and either Kynan Brown-or-jnr Woey

Why is Turner dropped ? Our forward line is a mosquito fleet !!! wtf.

Like shooting fish in a barrel.

Goodwin has his favourites who are immune to being dropped. Then there’s the players that get a game or two before being dropped. Turner needs to be given a really good run at it, in the forward line, to determine if he’s up to it or not.

  • PREVIEW: Sydney

The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
