Good on Trac for his post-match comments about Claz and the players sending their love and support to him. I feel like the commentary the McClure is putting out (without much substance or context) is completely unhelpful to him, it's yet another example of the media ignoring the fact they are happy throwing mud around about a guy who has openly said he is struggling with his mental health.

I'd be on board with the club doing a media ban on McClure in the same way North did with Cornes.

Hell I would love it if the entire playing groups across all teams did a media silence week in protest to the way the AFL Media conduct themselves. Or give one word answers when fulfilling media commitments.

Unfortunately it was on the Fox Footy coverage that came after the coverage ended in Victoria so only got shown in WA.

Tom Morris just said on 9 news Clarry is looking to leave at years end. Could be a great result if we can get something decent. We appear to have ready replacements and Clarry will benefit from the change.

The only way I see us getting anything half decent with that contract is if we pay a fair chunk of his salary. Otherwise it's a salary dump and we'll get stuff all. Be prepared to be disappointed.

What about playing them in a post season practice match?

Maybe it's because I have so many fond memories of him (namely the goal in the GF) but I still have hope for him remaining at the Dees and getting back to close to his best. He's clearly struggling with his own demons right now and it's good the club is taking the approach to show him care and support, unfortunately because of all the speculation from before the media want to beat the drums as loud as they can to create a story.

If he does come back this week please Dees fans if he has a mark, free kick, or anything where he's holding onto the ball give him a massive cheer. Or if he plays off the bench when he comes on give him a massive gee-up.

I get the feeling that he's feeling really hard on himself right now, and when you get into a dark place the only thing that gets you out is knowing you have people supporting you.

Happy to be disappointed, it appears we really need to move on. I’d also say The Brand is heading to Captain, that’ll increase his followers

It’s May, so I’m a bit confused why he or his camp would be talking about this already—especially to Tom Morris.

I’m not going to say it won’t happen, but given Tom Morris’s last “scoop” about Trac’s speech I’m gonna take this with several grains of salt.

That is a very fair point, recent form suggests Tom's connections at Melbourne are starting to feed him grade A BS.

So, when any AFL player takes time away for mental health, the Media always respect the players privacy.

Yet , when Clayton takes a break, McClure and Morris can't help but fall over themselves to "break" news stories about him. Why do they not respect Clayton's privacy? It's incredibly disrespectful.

We are not one of the media's favourites. So it is open season. Geelong, Collingwood etc they hear HQs voice in their brain and don't publish.

The reported interest in Jimmy Worpel has probably meant the clubs always known that Clazlord would try to be a funny bugger again come end of year

If Oliver is so desperate to get out then why would we agree to pay a cent of his contract. Let him negotiate terms with his new employer.

Very good point.

In this article Jake Niall writes:

"Geelong’s position was that they would stump up a certain amount – let’s say $850,000 – and it would be left to the Demons, Clayton and his management, to work out the remains (how much he gave up, how much money Melbourne picked up)."

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/the-multimillion-dollar-decision-how-demons-missed-the-boat-on-oliver-20250501-p5lvrx.html

Last year Oliver reportedly said he would take a pay cut. If he wants out then he wears the consequences of that decision. Why should our sal cap be stuffed up for the next 5 years!

If any player wants out, especially a contracted and important player I just hope we don't become all obliging but go for fair trade value.

He will never ever be captain. and shouldn't be.

Not this [censored] again. its not even halfway through the year yet.

End of the day if he wants to go, then he can take a pay cut to whatever club he wants as long as we get 2 x 1st round picks coming back the other way. If he cant, then suck it up and play out your contract. After the club stuck fat by him given what he did in 2023, this is incredibly salty. The guy who tried to get rid of him was even retired.

if i take this as true (Big IF) then one can assume he is not putting in 100% (given what we saw in the offseason vs season proper). I wonder if he is being asked to do this to 'reduce' his value. Has a funky smell like Smith doing his recovery away from the Dogs and forcing a trade.

clarry has openely said he loves the club, the players and everything they have done for him. not once, not twice, but multiple times, both public and private.

I dont think he necessarily wants to leave at all.

It's likely Clayton would have to take a pay cut and maybe shave a year or so off his contract?

We will not get much in terms of draft picks.

I would not be surprised if the Cats made us a redicilous offer last trading period.

A drop off in performance can happen to any player but if a player is on a huge long term contract and $ but is not playing or training without intent to then a club would have to test it in court.

Not saying this will happen here with Clayton it's just a general observation.

Ever occur to you that the majority of players don’t want him there so despite his love for the club, he’s resigned to the fact that it’s best if he moves on?

I want clarry to get back in a good head space, have a proper crack at the second half of the season and let’s see where things stand at the end of the year. If a deal works for both parties then so be it.

I can’t believe I stayed up to watch it. I’m gonna give my self a ‘Caro bad call’

Tom said, loves the club, the players, the coach but just think he needs a fresh start as he has asked for the last 2 years and is expected to ask again.

Just sounds like he is frustrated and just needs to find some confidence.

Also every week his reported annual salary keeps getting higher. It’s 1.5-1.7 now. Soon he’ll be the highest paid player in the comp without having negotiated a new contract.

Geelong manipulating the media to a T again for there own long term benefit.

Don't you just love em....

Let me save you the future pain: we’re not getting anything decent.

Salary relief will be all that is in it for us.

And based on current form that salary relief won’t be as good as it was looking 6 months ago, unless Clarry takes a massive haircut.

This thread, and the disrespect it shows to an absolute legend of the club, is shameful. Some absolute tripe gets written and now all the trolls come out of the woodwork to shaft one of the greatest MFC players ever. I don't believe for one second that he wants to leave or ever did, but if this is the support he gets, who would blame him?

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
