Not much has happened aside from Trac telling us he wants to leave. I would guess King would have wanted to keep him.

Us telling Clarry to explore options

And McVee bailing on us

It's all in the eyes of the beholder.

The idea of Trac, Clarry and May leaving at the same time equals a rebuild to me. Regardless of how we got here.

This is an opportunity to build the list around Langford. Let's do that.

Sounds like there might be more this, potentially this has been a bit of smoke and mirrors.

Statement incoming.

I like the fact that Clarry can have a laugh.

But gees i really hope there are some surprises on the cards. We havent been getting like for like since Jacko, Harmes and Brayshaw left.

King has clearly been watching Casey all year, and he knows we have Lachie Neale 2.0 just waiting in the wings

Assuming this is Laurie but you could tell me it's Billings, Woey, Kynan Brown, Mitch Hardie it wouldn't even matter, either way it's delusional.

Anyone else concerned that we were told we wouldn't need a full rebuild and we'd be expecting a bounce next year - only to be delivered a cleanout?

I'm not surprised one bit, I tipped this. The (ex-Geelong) new coach will come in and force Clarry to the Cats for a 2nd rounder. None of this is what we've been sold.

Why isn't Viney being told the same thing if we're completely looking to revamp our Midfield?

Because he’s a positive leadership influence around the club. We need that if we’re in a rebuild phase

We’re making Clarry captain?

Harmes?

The club has suffered heavily for trying to be extra nice to high maintenance players.

Break ups are always hard but the extra time and attention available for everyone else with May, Trac and Oliver out the door will be priceless.

Controversial statement; in the end, losing Gus and Nibbler will have hurt the club more than losing these three.

If we could keep one, I’d rather keep Trac than Clarry, as his trading standards are way higher.

Clarry being pushed and Trac wanting to leave means our midfield will be thread bare.

You've got my attention.

My two bobs worth on Clarry. He is getting way too much money for his output, and suspect more off field issues that are bubbling.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Clayton's training standards imo

Now that we have established that contracts mean nothing, surely this all means that we are tapping in to some incoming talent?

It would make way more sense to get rid of Clarry and retain Trac. One’s turned into a BOG ordinary one dimensional non goal kicking midfielder, the other is still a classy goal kicking midfielder that will get his 2 or 3 Brownlow votes from time to time

Hopefully the Trac trade falls over.

No trade value?

Your avatar is and should be the clubs priority.

We've got a young core coming through that need proper leaders at the club and bad influences who have been allowed to get away with anything and everything over the past few years are being moved on. Build around that group add more talent and away we go.

I agree!

Hopefully yes. Otherwise our starting midfield is going to get mauled each week

It's now in the Age

Melbourne have effectively encouraged star midfielder Clayton Oliver to find another club after a discussion about his role on Thursday morning.

Oliver was told by the Demons, including new senior coach Steven King, that he did not fit into their midfield plans, and Melbourne were fine for the four-time best-and-fairest winner to seek another club.

.........................

Oliver and Petracca were Melbourne’s leading midfielders – and two of the game’s best players – during their run to the 2021 premiership.

However, much has changed in the years since as a once-promising era that seemed capable of being a Demons dynasty came crashing down, including Goodwin’s sacking. Melbourne did not win a single final after that drought-busting flat win, and finished 14th the past two seasons.

700k per year until 2030 for oliver

800k per year until 2028 for brayshaw

1.5mil per year is a big chunk gone for the next 3 years.

Would hope we aren't contributing to Petraccas wage in anyway if he goes.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
