I love Viney and think he still has a role to play in the coming years, but a four year extension when he wasn’t even out of contract until end of this year said to me the club needed a feel good story to cover the issues with Trac and Clarry

Bringing in Nathan Jones as midfield coach was a similar move - I mean in what world does a club who thinks they’re competing for finals bring in an untried coach to oversee their midfield?

Again, love Jones, but those moves just reek of a club who panicked and were looking to do PR by extending/bringing in some favourite sons

Those two decisions tells me and the world all they need to know about the management of the footy club

All heart no brains no hardness Softest club in the league assisted by a non existent strategic plan

The board is killing this club, not on purpose but through inadequacy. Don't start on the mates of Goodwin

Who is running this **** show at the moment

Agreed.

Bar the Peter Jackson reign we've been a rabble off the field/board admin etc. it seems for decades. Very little harmony and smooth sailing.

Until we sort that out we will remain a non destination irrelevant club.

Our failures since the flag beggars belief

There was no talk of rebuild as of October 2024. Clearly the message from Tim Lamb here was to compete and finish as high up as the ladder as we could.

Shhhhhh !!!

A tad inconvenient for today's narrators 😉

But remember, it's totally acceptable to move the goal posts and pass mark when your goal becomes unattainable....

Rebuild? Dees cannot afford to bottom out.

  • Tassie still likely to come in and will take premier draft picks across two drafts at least

  • Our revenue is still low with 2025 membership figures estimated at 56000 in 2025 (down from 65000 on 2024) (down from 70000 in 2023) … I think we are now below Dogs and Saints ( only ahead of Kangas for Vic clubs)

  • Relevance? We are already quiet on the AFL agenda except for negative noise around culture and players leaving

  • The FIXture. We would be given dead end time slots, even worse than 2025.

  • Our last rebuild saw us miss finals for 12 years.

  • We need to bounce back NOW and not be satisfied that we were 2021 🏆premiers. Why are we so comfortable with one flag , played in WA , that we all move on in silence

No one is comfortable with one flag. Lot of people here have said it, Goodwin underperformed.

But is that because at the end of the day he's still not as fit as he once was? He went a long way backwards last year, and perhaps he needs more than one pre-season to get back up to speed, literally?

The club would have all his fitness data, so presumably they would know if that's the case. Interesting that Goodwin has mentioned in a few press conferences working with Clayton to get him back to the player he was.

Clutching at straws?

Oliver has never been the most agile or fast player. Even Petracca is on the same boat.

Our midfield group was designed for a style of footy that is no longer attractive or successful.

Goodwin had a prime MFC list from 2018 to 2024 to deliver the best results possible.

2025 and beyond is past his coaching style.

Its going to be a very long time until we have the likes of petracca, oliver, gawn again ... cats and pies reset rather then rebuilt ... we should do the same ... its not time to give up on a flag yet ... you are out of contension far too long in rebuild mode with no guarantees picks will be turn to gold ... our list is mostly injury free and can hit pre season hard

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
