    Agreed.

    Bar the Peter Jackson reign we've been a rabble off the field/board admin etc. it seems for decades. Very little harmony and smooth sailing.

    Until we sort that out we will remain a non destination irrelevant club.

    Our failures since the flag beggars belief

    No one is comfortable with one flag. Lot of people here have said it, Goodwin underperformed.

    The club would have all his fitness data, so presumably they would know if that's the case. Interesting that Goodwin has mentioned in a few press conferences working with Clayton to get him back to the player he was.

    Clutching at straws?

    Oliver has never been the most agile or fast player. Even Petracca is on the same boat.

    Our midfield group was designed for a style of footy that is no longer attractive or successful.

    Goodwin had a prime MFC list from 2018 to 2024 to deliver the best results possible.

    2025 and beyond is past his coaching style.

    Its going to be a very long time until we have the likes of petracca, oliver, gawn again ... cats and pies reset rather then rebuilt ... we should do the same ... its not time to give up on a flag yet ... you are out of contension far too long in rebuild mode with no guarantees picks will be turn to gold ... our list is mostly injury free and can hit pre season hard

    Pies got rid of Treloar and Grundy when they no longer fit into their best team. Geelong consistently attract A-grade talent.

    They managed without , but as D1958 offers up perhaps $$ was their undoing. That said it does show you CAN prune the rosebush. We struggle with weeding

    Maybe Clayton needs to do a month with McVee’s grandfather or a professional running coach and focus on the 100/200/400m sprints, he’s young enough to adapt and could help him get his mojo back.

    If we are all being honest, we all loved the flag, but for the majority, being inside our homes in locvdown was not how any of us envisioned the end of the drought. We all expected to fill the G and be singing the song long into the night in the bars at the ground and spilling out into Yarra Park in ecstasy...we still all loved the win...we all saw it...we didn't feel it like we thought we would ...because it wasn't how we imagined it. The thirst for another was far greater because of that. Happy to have seen one. Hungry for more.

    You can see it out there as evidence. The speed and transition of the game has gone straight past him and it makes sense when Goody said on his SEN interview last week that we will be looking to replenish our midfield stocks to suit a more transition style game plan.

    The game has gone past the likes of Viney and Oliver. If Oliver remains with the club, I really do believe he needs ro strip some more weight off just cover the ground more going both ways.

    Yep, he's still racking up touches for the most part (though more 25 than 35) but he's just not as damaging as he was. Looks like more of an accumulating plodder than a damaging top 5 in the comp mid.

    The problem is that we need a complete clean out of the coaches. The current group have failed at developing our players, save for about three. Sacking Goodwin whilst keeping those under him, will achieve nothing IMO.

This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day.       It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
