Hi everyone,

On Tuesday evening, Nasher and I will be undertaking a major update to the Demonland website, which involves installing new site software. As part of this process, we will need to take the site offline for an indeterminate period to ensure a smooth transition. The first step will be creating a full backup of the database as a precautionary measure, in case anything unexpected occurs.

Once the new software has been successfully installed, the site will remain offline for additional time while I restore and reapply the look and feel of Demonland. This update will reset all customizations to a default, “out-of-the-box” state, so some manual adjustments will be required before the site is ready to go live again.

Over the past few days, I’ve had the opportunity to familiarize myself with the new customization settings, so I have a clear plan to restore the site’s appearance as closely as possible to what you’re used to. That said, there will be some differences—the software itself is largely the same, but certain features and layouts may be in slightly different locations. If you have any questions or need help navigating the changes, please don’t hesitate to ask. I will be creating a dedicated support thread on the main board where we can work together as a community to iron out any issues.

The core posting functionality will remain unchanged, so you’ll still be able to interact with the site just as you always have. However, the most significant change—highlighted by the orange [NOW RED] banner at the top of the page—is that logging in to Demonland will now require your email address instead of your username. This is a security enhancement, as usernames are publicly visible and easier for malicious actors to exploit, whereas email addresses are more secure.

To ensure a seamless transition, please verify that the email address associated with your Demonland account is up to date. You can check and update your email settings here:

We appreciate your patience while the site is offline. If all goes according to plan, Demonland should be back up and running by Wednesday morning.

Looking forward to seeing you all on the other side, ready to fire up for the 2025 season!

Go Dees!

Famous last words but we’ve been testing it the past few days on a cloned version of a week old Demonland. I’ve been having conversations with myself.

I can name a poster who used to do that for real

Best website on the net. Many thanks. Would like to be able to swear but I'll survive.

Yes agree ,  like a box of chocolates. Like some don’t think much of others.

but you never learn much if you only read people or papers that agree with your views. Best website around for football nuts.  Thanks

Thanks for the uh update, Andy.  Mojo for getting everythign up and running again without many snafus.

I'm starting to remove some widgets, blocks, and soon-to-be-defunct third-party add-ons from the website in preparation for the transition. You don’t need to worry about the technical details—just trust me on this.

When we upgraded the test site, some of these elements caused minor issues, so I want the installation and upgrade process to be as clean as possible.

I could wait until tomorrow night, but tackling it now while I have the time will save me time later and help get Demonland back up and running sooner.

I’ll also be temporarily removing ads since some of the custom placements aren’t supported in the new software, and they might cause unexpected issues. So, enjoy the ad-free experience while it lasts! 😛

See you on the other side—hopefully.

Just a reminder that the site will be unavailable from 8pm tonight. Perhaps earlier.

Hopefully we'll see you tomorrow.

If the upgrade breaks Demonland well it's been nice knowing you all. I don't have the energy to fix it.

Go Dees.

Not only will you fix it Buster but you’ll send through an appropriate report.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
