Don't think Riv plays back. Don't think we change plans and suddenly start Langdon wing. Doubt we'll see any total shocks like Jed Adams over Howes.

Still not sure on 3 talls (AJ or Jeffo), Langford or neither. Woey, Jack Henderson and perhaps would we pick Spargo out of the blue again (surely not right? right?).

FB: Howes May Petty
HB: Salem Lever Windsor
C; Billings Rivers Lindsay
HF: Sparrow Turner Tracc
FF: Fritsch JVR Chandler
Foll: Gawn Oliver Langdon
Int: Bowey, Viney, Sharp, AJ/Langford
S: Woey

E: Henderson, Jeffo, AJ/Langford

That might be the 26 man squad and we won't know exactly who's in until we see conditions on Sunday.

I'll eat my Akubra if Goody seriously has Jeffo "in the mix" for the opening round.

Maybe he meant as in later rounds depending on how he fares at VFL level / on the track but wouldn't be in there this week surely.

Id really like to think that AJ will come in, but have we seen enough of him yet?  One quarter (?) against North (!) and then a bit of a pick and mix against Freo.

We definitely need someone to give Max a chop out and I really hope its him, but Im not sure if this is the game for it.  I actually have Jeffo behind AJ at this point, unless a tall forward gets injured.  Not like that WILL EVER happen.

Definitely get Langford in, why the hell not? No downside.

Im going for best 22 players IMO - positions can (obviously) change:

Bowey, May, Petty

Rivers, Lever, Salem

Windsor, Viney, Langdon

Langford, Turner, Sharp

Fristsch, JVR, Chandler

Gawn, Oliver, Trac

Int: Howes, Sparrow, AJ, Tmac

AJ and TMac feels too top heavy, I also think Lindsay plays

Goodwin said three or four to debut.  I'm guessing it will be three:  Langford, Lindsay, Jefferson or Johnson.  As Johnson played in Freo game he is the more likely and perhaps Jefferson as an emergency.

So telling our social media couldn’t get it together to create some debut content

we’re so far behind each team in this regard

I thought he was serviceable against Norf, I was surprised they didn't play him against Freo. But I'd be even more surprised if they backflipped again and played Jeffo ahead of AJ given Johnson looked pretty solid.

We play Sunday…the team gets finalised tomorrow. The content will come.

If no AJ that means JVR in the ruck?

No thanks.

Are you basing that of this? This happened last week. Casey play on Sunday

I really hope not. He has not shown enough in what I saw of him in the Nth game and then not played against Freo. You are not setting him up for success having him debut against Taylor, Buckley and Himmelberg in a red hot first game. It also I assume means no AJ (unless Turner misses) and that likely leaves us with JVR post back spasm having to ruck at times. It just does not set Jeffo or us up for success in my opinion.

Not picking Langford would make the bull angry

Which i like

He was just ok in the practice match

I wonder if the weather might be a factor.

Jeffo is probably better at ground level than AJ so might be a better bet if its wet?

Oh for ANB to still be with us. He’s exactly the guy we need right now.

Fair point. Does anyone know if he’s happy?

Surely not with 20 mls of rain predicted and possible thunderstorms.

Can’t be too top heavy.

I think possibly HL, XL, AJ and HS.

Ooops, I just got sent that and guessed it was today

If there is three it will be Langford, Sharp, Lindsay

AJ to be emergency

I'd be shocked to see Jefferson play and I cant see Spargo being ready

Forecast of heavy rain throughout the day and a temperature of 18 degrees by game time. Over or under 16k?

  • PREVIEW: Sydney

The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
