Yes I;m sure Kingsley will target Max, I would seriously go with Tom Campbell and spring a surprise and play Max for periods of time forward! That might prove interesting for Kingsley to counter!

Is that a Baldrick 'cunning plan' ?

Why would you play Max forward? This experiment failed during the Grundy debacle. I would hope we have moved on from that. And target Max with who? Pretty sure the thug Mumford has gone

This game will tell us a lot about how we fare this year. I expect GWS to be top 4 this year, along with Hawthorn, Brisbane and Fremantle. Where we fit in that 5-14 position could be revealed Sunday

So from our practice match we have Petty coming in, anyone else?

Out - Kozzi, Adams, TMac?, Langford (needs a run at Casey imo), Woey

Does that make 22?

The sub to come from the outs. Langford would be a handy sub

I can imagine a lot will want Billings out given his goal kicking but I think we need some senior players there to support our kids and his link play is generally good

Needs a run at Casey? Spare me. The guy has played 2 practice games, 1 of those at a high level and the other on the road in 34 degree heat.
Cal Twomey has picked Harvey to win the Rising Star. I rate his judgement of the incoming draft crops.

Based on how we played in 2022-24, you could write a script on how this game is going to be played. We dominate hit outs, CPs and clearances, resulting in a high number of inside 50s and time spent in our forward half, but with low quality shots on goal leading to an inaccurate score. The Giants often enough will break through our zone with pace and run and generate easier shots on goal.

I think the idea of our pre-season has been to work out how to avoid this from happening. This week is probably our first look at seeing what we’ve done to address it.

This should be printed out and handed to all the players. We'll see whether the changes Goody implemented stand up. Freo got hold of us on the rebound a lot

You miss the piont, Max aint getting any younger and Tom Campbell relishes physical contact, and so,yes Max does his usual share but he can also move forward, as I think Campbell can as well to stretch the GWS Backline!

Chandler and Laurie offer ZILCH I would play Campbell for reasons already provided!

You're saying we're going to lose on Sunday?

We win and we're '0', therefore, I guess. You know; the one before '1'(*)

The game may well be built around running it out of the backline. However when you have a very strong midfield as we do and Gawn has no serious opponent against a team that can likely out run us I'd play lock it up football in the front half.

And we will be turned around and beaten.

Dont over commit, use that great backline of ours and win 1-1s in a more open ground that allows slower ball movement and then turn it over and go.

I could be in the minority here, but Collingwood were gassed for the last 1 & 1/2 quarters. They missed a lot of easy goals too (4.13 at 3/4 time). GWS are in my top 4 and oh boy do they have some good players, but I didn't think they set the world on fire either... I think Collingwood falling to pieces was greater than GWS playing great footy.

On the flip side, I don't reckon GWS really got out of 1st gear until later in the game, so that's a worry.

Excited to see what we can do!

Agree with all that except your prediction and the McVee and T Greene comment. Greene got a hold of us last time with 3 goals and 16 touches.

Definitely agree with your comment about Kozzie for sure.

I know his stats look good but it didn’t feel like a good Toby Greene game. Two of those goals were from free kicks, one a particularly dodgy ducking one where Viney caught him high and another that was also dubious in a marking contest I think? My memory is he barely touched it in the first half with McVee starring, could be wrong though, I was at the game and my memory is coloured by heckling Greene a lot in the first half.

Wish he’d been suspended this week though, even his quiet games like that one are damaging. And I don’t know who we have to shut him down.

The one thing that concerns me about this game is that GWS have now had a good run at full pace and commitment, while we are coming off an easy run in a match simulation (think, dancing with your sister). I’m not saying we’ll get destroyed, but there is every chance that they will be out of the blocks much faster than us.

I hope we go into the the first bounce switched on… but I don’t feel confident that we will.  Having said all of that, I have tipped us in the Demonland comp; there’s no way I pay all those dollars for an MFC membership without expecting something in return!

Yes, I expect we will lose. But what I am saying is that we arent top 4 this year, nor are we bottom 4. We havent been able to convert inside 50 opportunities for the past 2-3 years and nothing I have seen so far suggests otherwise this year

Possibly although I just can't see how we match them for run on the wide open spaces of the G. I think we'll be forced to bottle it up somewhat and that'll likely be in our forward half as I think our mids will get on top thanks to Gawn. If it does get too crowded I guess we can bring our defenders back and try and force a turnover at HB. It's going to be an intriguing watch. We just have to kick some early goals and not end up 1.8 like we did against Freo. I will add that I think even with Briggs I see our mids getting on top. I sense Gawn, Petracca, Oliver and Viney, along with may, Lever, Langdon and Salem have a real point to prove this year. For some it's possibly the last roll and I reckon there's a resolve about our senior players. I think they know that it doesn't just happen and the teams fortunes largely rest with them.

We don’t need height Ed need pace and Campbell with about 6/8 possessions won’t help best GWS

We need maybe Mentha as sub to bring on or Pup as well on the ball or HFF at least.

Leavr Tom for another day when we won’t be run off our feet chasing or setting up opportunities to score.

another Du.b Dee sorry Dub Dee suggestion about Langford.

BTW if Chandler gets a guernsey starting why not use him as a tagger?
Doesn’t kick enough goals and would be lead to the ball. Is  good tackler also.

I can make dumb suggestions just like you DD.

Let’s see what the reactions are.

Not sure what I feel about this - Twomey stirring the pot? Would have thought that Johnson was ahead of Jeffo, who they didn't even take to the Fremantle match. Maybe he's been setting the house on fire in training or in the Casey match that no-one saw, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't Johnson.

Johnson has reached his ceiling as a player and will be handy on occasions, Jeffo.... The Sky is his to take!
