Casey will be playing a practice match tomorrow Saturday 1st March at Casey starting at midday. I'm not sure who we're playing against but Alan Richardson told us at training today we'll be fielding a strong team.

While not with the same enthusiasm obviously, I do share PF’s view that Jeffo will make it and I have held this view since early on after he started at Casey.

I don’t think he will be the “smash the pack” type key forward, but rather a bit more like Fritta, with the advantage of a bigger body.

He is a good kick, nice mark and ok below his knees. To me the missing ingredient is confidence and a feeling of belonging, rather than “the next time I make a mistake I am gone”  type of feeling.

It appears from some recent comments that the Coach is a fan and we will see how he goes this year, Jeffo’s most crucial so far, as he heads towards that “will he or won’t he” decision by the FD.

I've had that feeling. Turned out to be a UTI.

these three adjectives sum up my concern with jefferson - good, nice, ok

that describes his performances thus far to a tee - he does everything...fine

too many of his performances thus far have been vanilla in the extreme

i really hope that he can show more this season, as his contested work is so poor that he needs to develop more strings to his bow in order to command a spot in the mfc side

to compare him to weideman is unfair as the weed was in the mfc side in his debut year and proved to be too-good-for-vfl-not-good-enough-for-afl across two afl clubs

if el jefe doesn't make it with the mfc i doubt he'll get another go at another club

You folks heading out today? @Gator @picket fence??

Unfortunately, I won't be there.

As for Jefferson ?

He has no presence or urgency.  I'll be mildly shocked if he makes it at AFL level.

Some players scream ''I'm the man''.  I wasn't keen on young Caddy in his final junior year, because he dropped sitters and looked fumbly, but he did have aggression in spades.  Even at just 19 he thinks he's the man at AFL level.

At age 17 Jesse Hogan playing for Casey knew he was the man.

Jefferson is the opposite of ''I'm the man''.  That's OK if you can still attack the contest like your life depended on it.  I see that with van Rooyen, I don't with Jefferson.

Someone else said he'll never be a pack crasher.  If you're key position size at AFL level there's a level of competing in packs that's a non-negotiable for a forward.  I don't think he has that level.  Sorry to hurt people's feelings.

Playing a non aligned team whose season doesn't start for a month.

Will be interesting to see the relative match fitness of players including our own AFL listed players v VFL listed.

How many AFL players are going to Perth? If we assume 23 plus 3 extra and with our injury list that suggests Casey will have around 6-8 Afl list players. (just guessing...the most AFL list players in a VFL match is around 14 and worked back from there)

Edit: Sorry had forgotten that Sandringham is aligned with St Klda (perhaps still scarred by our alignment with Sandy where MFC was the unwelcome partner)

I agree.
His ceiling is Todd Marshall but currently looking like Lucas Cook.

I really want to disagree with you but can't help thinking that you may be right. I'd really like to see Jefferson impose himself on a game a great deal more. You don't have to like him but I think of players like Tom Lynch. When he was up and about, there was an energy, as you say 'wanting to be the man'

Looks like all 3 VFL practice matches in Ballarat will be streamed, but nothing from Casey. Can’t even find anything on the website except the time. A little disappointing.

Not many talls are better than ok below the knees, a good kick and a nice mark would describe many AFL players.

Being better in those categories usually is a description of the better players in the AFL.

    TRAINING: Friday 28th February 2025

A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you their observations from today's training session before the Demons head off to Perth for their final Practice Match. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Beautiful morning, not much wind, more than a couple of dozen spectators.  The players were up and about, boisterous and having fun. THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
