carr formally being anoiinted as successor, beginning as senior coach in 2026

i think hinkley will be looked back on by pear supporters as neale daniher was for us - he's achieved everything except for making a grand final, and united the club

Really happy to see Hinkley go. he was behind Poor Adelaide constantly attacking gawn for years.

Glad he finishes so unsuccessfully.

Not quite yet this season may be his time at last. You never know.

A pre-emptive sacking so the year isn't filled with will they, won't they stories.

Confirmed lame duck. Port to fall in 2025

Put a fork in them.

Carr will take over by round 10

Nothing wrong with this at all. You do what you can do get under the skin of the opposition's best player.

Bernie Vince was our go to person for this and our very own supporters were absolutely fine with this.

Works both ways.

Ken did rate Gawn the most valuable player in the league.

I don't know about that.  Surely they'd be trying to impress the future coach this season.

Added:  What would be their reason for leaving anyway?  Loyalty to Kenny?

butters was very clear that one of the reasons he signed up long-term with the pear was because of loyalty towards ken

Incredible that even when Port's admin finally worked up the courage to give Hinkley the boot they still made a meal of it.

It’s only taken them 3 years to announce this

things are a bit slower in Enfield….

Was the meal buttered lamb?  It was buttered lamb, wasn't it!

we really should. not only that, we should let the media know we are doing it - its what everyone else does

What are they thinking?

You shouldn't do a last minute succession plan ever but certainly not when you are in contention. Port have won 17 and 16 games in the past 2 years. If Ken isn't the man to win you a flag then sack him

Succession plans have only worked twice and both times involved Paul Roos.

This has disaster written all over it.

Ken agreed to this about as much as Malthouse did I reckon. Either be sacked now or agree to the succession plan, what's your choice?

Careful, Mr Stone; you're getting dangerously close to a NoT$NoB$ishness. And I know how you feel about that! 😄

Or, don't bother actually doing it but tell the media we are.

Would you prefer to cop it from Kenny’s Carr Or Horse’s Cox?

Let’s see how these 2 handovers play out….

Dangerous pun territory.

As a matter of interest, Demonland's opening post is coming up blank on my screen. Is anyone else having the same problem?

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.
