I posted on here that Rivers is one of the players wanting to go home for personal reasons and was ridiculed. This year did nothing to curb that refusing to give him midfield time.

New coach has a big job on his hands because this guy is a future captain

I think we only trade RivDog is if Dogga is coming back the other way. If not then I would be [censored].

What are we saying? Rivers best half dozen and dogga the same?

Trent’s main issue, the one the football department are always onto him about, is his defensive work rate.

Of everybody who played an AFL game this season, nobody has a higher missed tackle % than him. He’s around 45%, which is comfortably clear of the next worst player in the competition. The best two way mids are generally between 25-30%.

That’s incredibly damning for a bloke who started off as a defender. Because of this he’s not getting the midfield time he wants, and the footy department are absolutely correct to demand his pressure and defensive intent improves before he’s a regular in there.

Freo are dangling pick 11 out there.

I wonder if we could get pick 11 for McVee and obviously we give them a material draft pick their way (say in the 20's)

Disappointing if he leaves. I just took for granted that he'd be a 200 gamer for us.

Given what our track watchers have said, it's a confusing situation (not doubting the intel)

Pick 11 in a weak draft which is heavily compromised, not sure I like that.

IF he was to be traded, what would a fair trade for us be?

I doubt Freo would entertain trading pick 11 for Judd unless there were quite a few pick swaps involved or even players.

We must keep this guy. For a team that is FINALLY building up some good ball users (slowly) its so important we don't let one go.

Keeping Judd means we can continue trialling our best backline ball users further up the ground for better forward chains and inside 50's.

I would really like to see Judd more forward of centre next year because out of the small-medium backs (Riv, Bowey, Salem, Windsor) I think he has the agility and ball use to be a really damaging player with another full preseason under his belt.

Where did you find this stat?

Trent Rivers and Judd McVee are not for sale, Riv’s top 10 and Judd’s not far behind and both are key links in the chain for us going forward.

No one's untradeable but we need key players not draft picks.

The McVee contract situation has become comical. Unfortunately it's not the MFC's only problem in this area.

if the quality of this draft is as suspect as the judges make it seem, mcvee is probably a better player after three years of senior footy than any player who becomes pick #11 will be

Judd is out of contract, he can put himself up for sale and there's nothing we can do about it

I'm all for draft picks but I want the draft picks to compliment our next push for a flag which Rivers and McVee are a part of.

Well, we can decline any trade offer and force him to the draft.

Brinkmanship! I like it!

Sure, but then he walks to West Coast for nothing in the PSD. Hardly a win for us.

I mean they aren't going to offer us pick 11 for Judd and obviously we take it if they do.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
