Surprised at the negativity given JT’s record with speculative picks. Yee of little faith.

The article about his journey highlights his perseverance in the face of significant injury. When clear of injury, he got fit and played 20 of his 21 games at vfl becoming a key to their premiership.

Hard, tough kaarnnt from the country who seems quick(ish) and a natural forward. 193 cm so what… how tall is charlie curnow?  He’s got long arms and sticky one grab hands on the highlights.

A bit more history about AJ.

He made the step up to the very strong Ovens and Murray League competition as a 20 year and in his first season and kicked 53 goals as a FF/CHF. That same year he won a premiership with Lavington.

Before that, he played for Brock Burrum saints (breed them tough there) in the Hume Football League (where I played with and against him) and even as a teenager he dominated senior footy constantly kicking bags of goals each week.

Whatever league he's gone too, hes stepped up and performed really well. I will say that this will be an incredible jump from his own perspective between VFL and AFL.

The fitness work will come as a huge shock to him and it will take him some time to adjust, purely because he's raw in terms of elite pathway and it usually is with country bush footballers. I do wonder whether we could have just left him to the rookie list but maybe we wind that other clubs were going to snap him up?

He's an incredibly hard worker though, and will certainly leave no stone unturned. He's overcome some hurdles with his injuries and to get to this position is credit to his credit.

Great teammate mind you..type of guy that enjoys a scrag and always willing to stick up for teammates.

Off for the field, he's just a typical country lad who enjoys a good time, but again, will adjust to being an elite professional footballer.

Cult hero written all over him.

The next Fraser Gehrig.

Everyone complains about our culture. We need to start a Go Fund Me for him for the next KB so he can make a cultural statement that should have been made this season and see to Maynard and Moore. We can fund the consequent loss of match payments.

Well one thing is for sure Fullerton is a wasted pick been replaced as ruck now as a forward. Not willing to write a line through Johnson as he's a hard nut definitely Pedersen vibes as well as Andy Goodwin if people could remember him.

Dazzle, any info on what required him to wear the elbow support in the GF?

I like this; Petty going back, BBB retired, Shack Attack delisted…..a void of tall forwards to play 20 games at Casey next year and possibly 2-3 at AFL.

Gives us some depth and maturity. A strong Casey is important to a strong MFC - yes he will mostly play VFL.

Fullarton a bust it seems. Although he and Johnson our tall forwards at Casey with Kentfield and Jeffo playing some AFL.

The most surprised might be Aidan himself.  Probably sitting at home and may have even tuned out to the draft

Nek minnit

Bring him in for the 2 Pies games!

The goon squad consisting of Aidan, Teddy Fidge, Mick Reynolds, Zantuck, Hughes & Grinter.  And Henry Coles!

Agreed! Unleash him upon Collingwood!

Did some damage to his arm/elbow which he played through pain for the back half of the year.

My understanding is that he got it cleaned up with end of year surgery.

193 cms is fine for a crash and bash back up Ruckman. JVR is back up at 193 cms. JVR crashes packs forward and provides a crash and physical approach to rucking.

Back up ruck crashers and bashers are not there for their looks or ability to finess hit outs to mids.

If Gawn goes down his back up now is Cambell.

If JVR goes down AJ or maybe Kentfield would be considered as a back up.

He may not get a game but heaps of listed players in the AFL don't.

100%

For me this is the selection that says "We made some trade mistakes that we need to fix".

This is the fix.

Fullerton to the backline.

Called out for bagging a player. Thanks for keeping it real.

Fullerton to the backline or Casey reserves.

Fullerton may not be good enough for MFC best 23, but he played some good games at Casey and there is no need to insult him by suggesting he play for VFL seconds

Few posters having a go at the club for this selection when most beforehand had trust in JT. Let's give the guy a go and see how he trains, plays in the praccy matches and early on at Casey before getting stuck into him and who picked him. Could turn out to be a JT special.

If he doesn't play defence then I don't see the room now.

Poorly worded. Edited. Thanks

Holy [censored]! Literally played with and against Aidan the last couple of years!

Albury lad who won a flag at Lavington Panthers alongside Shaun Mannagh. Good friends with Dan Turner and was a premiership player with Werribee this year.

Typically brute country footballer.

Did you ever see him as or think he could make it in the AFL?

To be honest, no I didn't, but that's purely because footy around that time wasn't really an ambition for him. He was honestly just happy country lad who played footy for the social aspect of it all and being around his mates was more important to him then footy.

He was fairly talented all the way through the ranks. I think there was opportunities there with the Murray Bushrangers, but again, that wasn't exactly in his sights.

It was only until he decided to test himself at Ovens and Murray level where I think it steadily grew from there. When he had the year where he kicked over 50 goals as a 20year then I think that may have sparked the interest. It wasn't until he started to attract attention from VFL clubs where guys like Shaun Mannagh and Dom Brew really did encourage him to then give it a go.

Even though he had the year in the VFL, I still put him down to being fairly raw because of the lack of exposure coming through the ranks. I think adjusting to AFL life will certainly take its time with him but he's got an incredible work rate and maturity that will hold him in good stead.

You get kids who are straight out of school and probably lack the life skills to adjust, and then you get guys like AJ who have toiled away for years, working on the tools each day and doing the hard yards.

I am definitely a nuffie for a good old-fashioned country footballer.
Those tackles in some of these highlight videos are things of beauty.
Can take a mark with the ball kicked on his head, so may actually function in the MFC forwardline.

All aboard the 'Peaches' Johnson train
