Darren Shand:

“My perspective of looking at the Dees was the world was saying they were falling apart. It was basically one plus one equals three. That wasn’t my experience at all. There was a couple of separate issues, but very solvable. The world just said, ‘The club is falling apart’. Yeah, the results weren’t great, but I still felt inside their environment a lot of the systems and structures were really good, a lot of the people are really good, the ambition was good."

Our onfield form does not mean we are falling apart internally. I'm going to watch with interest the next few months. Some fairly big inclusions and changes appear imminent and it'll say a lot about the club how these changes are handled. Take the Demonland route of burn it to the ground and run around arms flapping or calmly and methodically make the necessary change. The club is under pressure but most of that pressure will be internal, no one wants to be in this position but here we are, now let's put our big boy pants on and get to work.

We built our whole program and preseason on this guy's advice. Not a great endorsement so far.

Apart from the fact that you're already assuming the outcome of such a review ... we just did one.

That's true.

But every year there is a football department review. I am sure any new CEO would want to do a review as well.

We still have fundamental issues at the Melbourne Football Club that need to be resolved.

The All Blacks are pretty much the gold standard in terms of performance and culture. A healthy balance of arrogance and humility. Maybe we are missing the humility.

I said something like this 10+ years ago on Demonland, but the less Melbourne people involved in the CEOs chair and the FD, the better.

I understand Nicho is well rated, but [censored], we're so prone to groupthink at our football club.

Administration after administration.

Well he’d be able to certainly get the AFLs attention on a number of matters; give us a good opportunity to secure Caulfield. Not sure what a downside would be.

Was going to post similar. When first entering the thread, I can’t see the video or images that have been linked, just a black or white box where the link to the image or video should be. It shows after I refresh the page.

Same here. It’s the large format embedded posts, not just from DL but other posters too I often can’t see.

Demetriou, love him or loathe him, would be a very good appointment. No one has more connections than him.

can't see it happening though.

Takes ages and ages to load for me too

Me too!

I had trouble getting DL posts after update, but I changed web browser from Firefox to Brave. Everything works fine now.

DuckDuckGo on iOS 18 also works

Firefox problematic around blocking some stuff but it also seems to block Domainfax’s paywalls on the Smage. Literally every article readable without 12ft io

What's the conflict? That he's a former Demon?

It is a conflict of interest for those participating in the making of the decision. They would have a natural desire to look after someone that they know. They would be tempted to make DLers smile by picking one of their favourites.

Love him or hate him, AD would be a good get for CEO.

I really hate him and I'm fully committed to crossing over to the dark side and giving him as much love as he needs.

AD would be an amazing get and I'm sure all of us would wrap our arms and legs right around him.

That's certainly an interesting prospect.

Andrew Demetriou?! I would be very surprised if he wanted to be our CEO. I can imagine he wouldn't come cheap either.

However, if he wanted a final challenge before retirement then CEO of the Melbourne Football Club would definitely be it!

At least you know he can get things done and has plenty of connections still at the AFL.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
