Of course it does, it doesn’t absorb their 1st pick and they can use later picks

Not if it was just 9 for North’s F1st. Would have left ESS with just pick 31 and staring at a points deficit.

We had points matching capital to add and looks like that put us in box seat.

I’d like Lalor and Tarau with 5&9 thanks 🙏

Given it’s looking more likely than not that we’ll have first round father son in K White next year trading out for good return this year is genius…

Has that been confirmed? I migh've missed it. Last I read there was no indication yet from him or family

Nor has there been any Indication that he’s a first round selection. The club will likely have answers to both those questions.

With the brilliance of Jason Taylor, surely two shots with picks 5 and 9 is far better than one shot with pick 2... hope we don't trade with North.

Me to 74 we need to build up our elite group prior to Tassie coming on board and this draft is so deep.

46, 53, 56 (Adelaide, Ess via GWS, Ess via GWS)

49, 54, 65

1355 points.

32 and 34 from Brisbane 1126.

And then flip 32 and 34 for a pick inside 30.

While I love the thinking...

They've said: Essendon trading pick 9 and a future third-round pick for Melbourne's future first-round pick and picks 28, 40, 46, 54 and 65.

So where are these picks coming from?

And is there no longer a rule about needing to have the list spots available (or something similar) if you're using a suite of picks to match points for a player (ie to stop teams stockpiling late picks)?

This was before the Essendon deal.

We now need to rely on GWS sending us some junk picks or some other method.

Our F2, Essendon’s F3 for GWS’ F2 and F3, Derksen and picks in the 50’s???

i think that rule got quietly scrapped during covid.

Happy if we use 5 and 9 only in the draft

5, 9, Sharp, Campbell and maybe a couple of rookies, such as Yze or Mentha if JT likes them enough

Once we have the Essendon deal done we should be talking to GWS about a potential pick split in my view.

I personally would consider 9 and 49 for their 15 and 21.

What do we use for Sharp?

Cannot trade other 2025 future picks due to F1 gone

I agree

We've now got 2 gilt-edged chances to add 2 very good players to the list with the 2 high-end picks

If we can find a 3rd, we're going to need a bit of luck but 2 x very good players plus 1 or 2 that end up being starting 22 would be a fantastic result

Another smokey like McVee would become the 3rd top player.  So out of the other 5 or 6 other players added to the list this off-season, we could unearth a gem

All that added to an already talented list (if all fit & firing and playing well)

I believe the Sharp deal may be off now. This is unconfirmed rumour currently, so the whole idea may end up completely out the window of course. I think we are required by the AFL to use at least 3 draft picks each year aren't we? So even if we were to trade 49 for Sharp we would still need to find another pick somewhere I think? My guess is we are not done yet with our pick trading, the talk around this year's draft has been the top 30 or so are all very good (apologies if wrong, it's not something I follow very closely), so just from my perspective I'd be happy with 3 picks in the top 21.

We could then possibly look at Yze as a rookie and I remember reading the club was trying to get Mentha as a category B rookie.

I believe the rule is we have to turn over 3 spots on our list, not necessarily pick three in the draft.

I could be wrong on that though.  You've been good for years here at finding out these details, so appreciate in advance if you can clarify

5, 9 and Campbell might suffice if so

Outside only taking 2 players at the draft or upgrading rookies for the remaining spots can anyone explain why we had to trade absolutely everything for pick 9 surely keeping a few other picks would have been useful for some other trades or someone who falls through in the draft

Will we continue our trend of picking up WA boys high in the draft?

Kozzi, LJ, Rivers, Kolt, JVR

Who's the best WA boys?

Gives Lions extra 200 points for Academy bids while leaves us with a third pick still.

Just because it isn't listed in the provisional draft order at the moment doesn't mean that our draft picks stop and we can't select any more players.

We have draft picks to fill all open list spots, they'll just be added on at the end (in reverse ladder order). If we traded away all of our draft picks and still had 5 list spots open going into the draft, then we'd get 5 draft picks (eg, 75, 78, 79, 80, 81) at the end to fill out our list.

We have lost 8 players from the 2024 list. Gus, ANB, Hunter, Schache, Smith, B.Brown, Tomlinson and Farris-White. Even if we pick up a couple Rookie/PSD's need around 4- 5 more from trade / draft. As an example I can see them possibly trading with GWS to split pick 9 across 15 and 21 and Derksen as a play. And then on trading 5 and one of 15 or 21 to secure 2 and 25. Then MFC have 2, 21, 25  for instance to go along with Sharp and Derksen. Just an example but something suggests Cal Twomey expecting MFC hasn't finished trying to move up draft board further.

Also we have Campbell so 7 spots left now

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
