We have 3 senior spots and 2 rookie cat A/B. We could select 2 out of Yze, Andrew or Ricky Mentha

We didn't nominate Yze as a father son.

He really isn't that good.

His highlights look good… as always. Keen to get him as a Cat B rookie along with Mentha. Would be a great result for our academy and they would be two exciting players to watch develop at Casey.

Seems we’ll be taking Andrew ahead of Yze

Wouldn’t be relying on a late pick or rookie spot for this kid. Eureka if it somehow transpires otherwise fool’s gold.

Young Ooze looks a solid prospect but keep it hush.

Why? He's already been overlooked once

Club recruiters would be well aware of him given his brother’s ascendancy at the Suns. Appears to have rebounded solidly from the previous season’s adversity. Fingers crossed but not holding my breath on draft night 2.

Has it been reported anywhere that we haven’t nominated him as a father son?

Cal Twomey tweeted the list f/s & academy nominees a few days ago, Melb nominees were Andrew & Mentha (no Yze).

I saw the tweet but it didn't look complete since it left out some well known father son nominations such as the Camporeale twins at Carlton and Tyler Welsh at Adelaide.

Yze did play at Casey a couple of times so it is a matter of interest for the club's fans & it seems like a case of poor communications from the club again (unless there's something top secret going on :))

No it didn’t, just got to get to the 3rd image. We’ve never talked much about father sons and academy players pre draft, not sure the club is well served by coming out and announcing they don’t rate a player

Just looked up dates

FS noms for draft bidding were due on October 31

Fs rookie list noms due 22 nov

If young Yze looks like a rookie pick as opposed to draft ready - we won't know until 22 nov

So essentially - our position is that we’re not prepared to draft him onto the primary list but could consider doing so for the rookie list if he’s not drafted in the main draft.

Just noticed that Sam Marshall is Brisbane academy despite playing for Sandy Dragons. That seems a bit on the nose for me and contradicts the reasons for the academy.

Surely it is time to stop these interstate NGA advantages.

3 years at Melbourne Grammar. Played for Sandy Dragons. Even played for Vic Metro in under 16's until someone wised up and decided that would've looked horrendous if it continued in to under 18's. Genuine rort.

Interesting the article fails to mention he is an mfc NGA player and we can match a bid.

If they bid I reckon we will take him with pick 79.  Not exactly sure how the 'draft points system' works late in the draft.  I vaguely recall here is a time where the points less the 'discount' becomes zero or negative and a club can use their next available pick.  In our case 79 (or whatever it comes into).

No idea if this has changed since but when they bought the bidding system in:

the listing of F/S players and local Academy graduates is facilitated in later rounds because the discount rises steadily from 20% in Round 1 to 100% at pick 56 (if a player is bid from this point, a Nominating Club need only use their last pick in the draft to list the player).

The other question I have is whether we can go in to deficit to match a bid in the 3rd round. We might be willing/able to do that if he gets through to the start of the 3rd round which could be about pick 45. So from the 3rd round and especially from 56 he becomes an easier chance to get to us.

Or he might purely be a Cat B Rookie in the eyes of our recruiting team.

Thanks for the quote.  My memory isn't so bad!  I don't think it has changed as again iirc that is how we got Woewodin.

To your other question, we could go into deficit if a bid is in the 3rd round.  It might get tricky because the draft points 'deficit' comes off our first bid in 2025 (and it would be a very low figure).  Right now that is a 2025 second round bid but I don't know what happens if we were to trade in a first round pick in 2025.

I think rather than go into deficit we would make a pick swap on draft night juggling our future picks to get the required points for Riak.

I might be wrong here, but I believe that the deficit gets taken from the round in which a player gets bid on.

I.e. a bid on Andrew in the 3rd round causing a deficit would result in our future 3rd pick being shifted back and wouldn't affect selections in other rounds. Not sure how the rule would apply if we didn't have a future 3rd though.

So his nickname will be ‘Prince’.  The younger brother no one really wants???

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
