Roffey's departure and the appointment of Green seems to me a recognition that the president needs to have football knowledge, not just knowledge of the corporate world.

Smith ticks both boxes.

Smith track records speaks for itself BBO.

There have been too many mis-steps by this administration in recent times. Kate's train wreck interview was symptomatic of how some at the club operate with a siege mentality. Fairly obvious who the next domino will be.

We are lacking real leadership at the club so look fwd to seeing what Brad and hopefully Stephen Smith can do.

I don't hold much hope for Green but if he is just an interim for a couple of months til Smith can take control that's fine. Wouldn't want him long term though, think he'd be way out of his depth.

Kate will be someone with the drought breaking flag next to her name and the first women’s flag for the club.

Hard to go past that for a defining figure in the club in modern times.

Moving on at the right time too, also a virtue.

Without being accused of ‘signalling’ or playing with identities (for shame) - it’s also that much harder for a woman in this landscape and she navigated well. Mistakes were made, as they always are, but she bows out with grace and a decade of service to the club.

Well put.

I hope Brad Green is a good leader of an effective transition to an excellent President... I think Steven Smith would be great 👍

Any chance Smith can use his MCC connections to get us back in the MCG where we belong?

Love the thought of that, but no chance I'm afraid.

Fell on her sword like a good executive should.

Thanks for your service Kate.

Well many on here wanted her gone so you’ve got your wish. A female premiership president is how she’ll depart. Her exit doesn’t solve our on field issues and cultural problems. All the best KR.

She was gone after the interview with Gerard Whately on SEN.

She felt it was ok she had not spoke directly to Petracca despite the media attention and the massive injury. She spoke management speak. She appeared to have no understanding of the problems at the club neither on or off field or was in total denial. The interview was an acknowledgement of a failure as a leader, even though she didn’t realise it at the time. It was obvious to everyone else who heard the interview.

Will we? The board is reviewing itself. Green has been on the board since November 2020.

Robb retires this year so just 5 Board members to "review". How are they doing? Discuss.

First off, I want to thank Kate Roffey for all the wonderful work she did for the Melbourne Football Club.

She was the first female President of the Melbourne Football Club and oversaw our 57 year drought breaking AFL Premiership and our very first AFLW Premiership.

Kate seemed a really nice lady from what I saw of her. She often went down to join the Demon Army cheer squad at games (from what I saw). She was also always in the Club rooms hugging players and coaching staff (win or lose). As President she was also a huge supporter of Simon Goodwin and that paid off with our Premiership in 2021.

Sadly, her trainwreck interview the other week on SEN radio was unacceptable and she did the right thing stepping down. However, I genuinely wish Kate all the very best and hope she remains a passionate Demons member for the rest of her life.

One major issue remains lingering though. What will happen with our Home Base? Will it still go ahead at Caulfield Racecourse? Who takes over this project? Will the next Melbourne Demons President make our Home Base a priority to complete?

Brad Green has a big job to do in being interim President. Especially in regards to the Review to be undertaken. I hope that we do an external Review of the Melbourne Football Club. But we shall have to wait and see I guess?

Lastly, it will be interesting who will be the new nominations to join the Melbourne Football Club Board. We expect Steven Smith to become a Board member and possibly become President. But who else will nominate? Will Peter Lawrence try again to join the Board? Will any other former Demons players? Whomever it is the main priorities need to be this:

1) Fixing Club Culture and professionalism.

2) Growing the Club and increasing membership to 70,000+ as mentioned by CEO Gary Pert previously. This will help with Club revenue and being in a strong position financially.

3) On field performance and winning more AFL and AFLW Premierships.

4) Completing the building of our Home Base at Caulfield Racecourse (or wherever it will be?).

5) Implementing a new Stategic Plan for the Melbourne Football Club for the next 3 to 5 years.

I'll remember Kate as an average plodder who used all the management cliches & buzzwords. She showed good sense to resign when she did.

Bizarre, many posters that lambast others for attributing apportioned ‘blame’ to Roffey for the issues and shortcomings displayed in the media, don’t seem to have any issue crediting her with unchecked praise for our success.

Roffey hasn’t been involved in the current project for a solid period of time. It’s u likely to have any detrimental impact.

I’ve read this several times but I’m still not sure I understand it. How is it bizarre that the people who don’t blame Kate for shortcomings are the selfsame people who praise her?

Her specialist area was facilities. On that she didn’t deliver and that’s the bottom line.

I think she was a good ambassador for the club. Very visible presence with the AFLW team. Got along to all the games, both men and womens.

She had no idea about footy though. That’s fine if you have a specialist focus on the board but the president has to have a grasp of the fundamentals to preside. Her interview clearly demonstrated her lack of knowledge and unsuitability for the role.

It’s why I think Steven smith will be perfect. He’s has very relevant presidential experience with the MCC but is also a 200 game former Dees champion. How many people are there out there with that dual skill set?

I will say in terms of leadership, the way she has stepped down and selected an excellent candidate to succeed her, is leadership 101 and to her great credit.

Yep, well said. I think he's the perfect replacement.

In light of this news I wonder what this means for our home base? A step closer or start the process again?

Wouldn't that make sense though?

Or is it the people that lambasted others for defending her?

Sorry, who said it was a train wreck, oh that's right the media, so it must be right. Siege mentality, wouldn't you with Morris, McClure et al just waiting to pounce so they can create a headline. Kate probably thought who needs this [censored] any more.

It was a train wreck (My opinion only. Remember now, Saty, we are allowed those).

The first agenda item will see the new board deliver the Coup De Grace to the Caulfield racetrack.

Without reading a heap about it appears the challengers to that board are looking to scale back proposed developments broadly speaking ... hoping that doesn't include our home base

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
