How come you did the Capital letter in words thing? That would be fairly annoying and time wasting to write I presume?

It's an internet meme used to convey a tone of stupidity

Would hope some performance outcomes related to such a contract.

You dont want complacency to lower performance but there must be reasonable security for injury or other non player controlled output. Ie if dropped for balance or managed reason.

Could even include bonus payments for team related contributions. To ensure individual action to meet performance measures do not override team success.

No, no, I think it's a great idea because he's torn up so many games playing in the middle with 30 plus possessions and a beacon of consistency.

Let's make sure we throw every last bit of our cap at Kozzie and make it the least team friendly contract possible. We dont need a key forward or any other pieces You said it yourself we'll be bursting at the seems with nothing left for anyone else. There is nothing risky about it at all and no-one will be annoyed when he misses games with his token suspensions.

My take is what it is, don't let it spoil the mood. I couldn't give a stuff anymore and if people don't like the lack of pom-pom flogging and feel good [censored] then I obviously don't belong here anymore.

I get what you’re saying Layzie. It’s a massive contract when we already have others tied in on very long expensive contracts.

The length concerns me more than the value. $1.4m is what he’s worth to offer him less would be unders when the likes of Trac and Clarry are in as much as maybe more( I’ve seen figures as high as $1.7m this year). Ruckmen are getting paid $1.4m these days. I thought Jackson on $900k was to expensive until I looked at what some others are getting.

The length of the contract is a worry for me. We’ve already seen it okay out that form and injuries can have a massive effect on players ability to give value for money.

But any club that comes in for him would have to be offering 7 years as that what the top players are being offered now. Freo already have Young and I thing Jackson on similar terms. By going to 9 it means we can’t be beaten.

It also sets his trade value should he choose not to stay. The biggest contract offer in AFL would require just about the biggest trade deal ever.

It also lets the dee faithful know that IF he leaves that did absolutely everything in their power to keep him. We cant have done any more.

This is a very important point to harp on about.

The money Kosi makes the club by getting people to watch games, and his marketing value, is totally underrated.

He is a guy your kids want to watch play, and keeps them connected and invested in the club as they grow up.

There is more to this than just keeping a bloody good player in the team.

If this contract gets signed, we should all be extremely happy! It would be sensational news for our club.

Yup, would also be a bit of a statement if we can get him to sign. All the negative stories that have been in the media and yet our best talent is willing to sign on for life. Would be a good step in the right directions towards attracting other players to come. Who wouldn’t like to play with Kossie.

All the - I hate long term deals - folks

if we didn’t sign up Trac and Clarry for long deals they’d probably be playing for the Blues and Cats respectively right now! and we would have gotten a free agency pick for them

I will say that having worked in an investment firm who has had AFL players as clients, what they are reported to be paid isn't always accurate.

I had a fairly high profile AFL player about 6-7 years ago I was dealing with in Victoria and he was earning about $200k less than what was reported....

In any case, Pickett is an absolute gun and could be a top 10 player as early as the end of 2025. Also, if his salary isn't indexed to the salary cap increases then in 4-5 years it could be a much smaller % of the cap. You just have to trust the club know what they are doing in regards to the amounts and number of years.

Kozzi has earnt a long term deal by being an ultimate pro from an 18yo

His aggression, committment along with skill and pace are extremely rare. He could be a top 10 player in the league for the next 8 years and kick 500 goals and a bazillion clearances

This is a very important plan B strategy.

We're playing a big game here and forces Flogmantle or West Coke to pay up big and at least if he goes we get proper compensation.

I'm hoping Kozzi takes our deal and stays

I am incredibly excited about taking my 4 and 3 year old to see Kozzy light up the G in the mighty red and blue for years to come. He is so much more than a player that can provide W's, he puts bums on seats, he makes us relevant, and he is a walking highlights reel.

We really got the second coming of Cyril (and then some)!

There’s not a club in the land that couldn’t work out how to get Koz on their list if he wanted to come. Players retire, players get traded, front and back loading, a rising cba, where there’s a will there’s a way.

Sure, every club would love koz but that's why there is a salary cap.

As Jaded notes i forgot Bolton, who must be on huge coin and Young, who has just re-signed.

To match what the dees seem to be offering koz, Freo would likely have to cut at least top 10 players, who unless coming out of contract would have to agree to any move, not to mention there being a in willing and able to pick them up and match their salary.

And then there's the issue of list balance one from has already had issues with by spending so much capital (salary and contract length) on Jackson when they already had a highly paid number one ruck in Darcy.

Bolton plays almost exactly the same role koz would - damaging small forward who can run thru the middle. As noted, they are paying him a motza.

Adding koz on a contract that matches our offer would mean having aprox 2.5 million dollars a year or their salary cap tied up in small forwards.

And then there's team culture considerations. If Freo were to match our offer koz would likely instantly become their highest paid players.

Which might, or might not cause ructions, but it certainly would likely result in up and coming players like Treacey looking elsewhere in the knowledge they won't be able to command anywhere near same coin at Freo as they would on the open market.

I did mention it earlier in the thread that I didn’t think it made a heap of sense for Freo to go for Kossie when they have just signed Bolton on big coin for two first round draft picks. As well as the $2.5m in cap space you’re also looking at 5 first round picks all up imho.

Add Murphy Reid into the equation who has been brilliant this year and I rate very very highly. Vic clubs will come hard for him over the next couple of years Freo will need to match offers.

It’s just way too much capital to put out on small forward types even if they are spending time in the middle

Also Freo made it known earlier this season that they were going to priorities Chad Warner above Kossie.

I am super excited to see this deal come to a close. Kozzy is the kind of player you can build a list around and I will be supremely confident success is on our future with him as our no 1 star player.

Regarding the Jacko trade, I feel like the club purposefully spin doctored some rumours to mess with Freo. Is it a coincidence both players were 'caught' texting old teammates?

i think it's fairly well known that these contract estimates are just that - wild estimates

i remember gus and gawny used to just laugh at the estimates that the little paper would run with; always said 'i wish i was earning that!'

i think there's a big difference between 'capacity to earn' and 'actually earn'

Absolutely. My 10 year old kids were totally mortified at the prospect of Kozzie going to another club.

He's the main reason they're interested in the MFC (aside from my relentless brainwashing since birth, haha!)

Your little boy will be fine, as will the many, many little kids with #36 on their jumpers ♥️💙

i love Kos and I accept that I'm an outlier in this discussion but I see this potential deal as a lose/lose . If he gets seriously injured gets too comfortable or has a form drop off we are stuck with a huge contract for who knows how long .If he continues to star but gets homesick we then are in exactly the same position we are in now save that we cannot extend further. He will ask to leave for family reasons and that will be that .

He is 100 percent absolutely worth the money this decade. 2033 and 2034 is another story but I guess none of the football department really have to worry about that because they probably wont be here. The supporters will be tho.

By 2033, $1.3mil will be a stock standard salary.

Given how the Brayshaw, Viney and Oliver deals have panned out, I find it unbelievable that the club would go down that path again so soon.

I love Pickett and would love for him to play his entire career at the club, but locking him up for 9 years (irrespective of the money) is just ridiculous.

There is really no downside for Pickett, as he gets paid whatever happens. And, if the west is calling out to him in a couple of years, does he put out his hand for another pay rise?

All the risk is with the club who is stuck with a contract for a player who could lose form or interest in the game, or get seriously injured at any time. And let's be honest, in 9 years time he may well reach the 16 week suspension threshold for automatic deregistration from the league.

If we can find some middle ground and give him 5-6 years, that would be perfect.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
