If Kozzie goes it's undoubtedly going to be one of those painfully hard ones to take, right up there with the Wiz.

Performances like Saturday won't help this but if the worst does happen I would really urge everyone to take the approach of "Don't be sad that it's ending, be happy that it happened".

Much harder to to implement this than it looks but we've had some great years from him and for that I know I'll always be eternally grateful.

Said it before - I would make Petracca the next skipper.

We all question our loyalties from time to time and challenge those around us and ourselves to justify continuing on.

I am glad he seems to be throwing himself back in love with the club and what it is trying to achieve.

Maybe it signals a lack of confidence in Longmuir.

Goody was very confident last night Kozzie would at least see out his contract with us.

so both chad and koz are out of contract together at the end of 2027, both as free agents

flagmantle and meth coke are gonna have conniptions as to who to back the truck up to

Bugger I was really hoping Warner would go to Freo , would have made a play for Kossie much more difficult. They also now know what money they can offer Kossie.

I don’t know if Goodwin was confident, he just trotted out the company line like he is expected to. What else was he going to say?

Exactly.

Said the exact same thing about Jackson and Hogan as well when they were coming out of contract.

Kozzie is not coming out of contract. He's contracted until the end of 2027

So to prise him out is going to take a huge offer

I'm not at all concerned

As good as he is, 3 first round draft picks coming back for Kozzie is also very appealing (esp with JT at the helm)

And if we don't get that type of offer, we tell the suitors to P.O.

We are in the position of strength because of the contract

Freo & to a lesser degree have got a terrible history of overpaying for returning WA players, Harley Bennell, Hogan, Tim Kelly which invariably blows up in their face.

Isn't 2027 when Tasmania enter the draft?

Not sure on Tassie but if the big offer is going to come for Kozzie, I'd be reckoning it will be at the end of this season. They'll want his serviced now (whoever they may be)

And if we got what we wanted*, we can use the picks we get for him in the 2025 & 2026 drafts

*Lots of picks

"Another star rejects Freo" and "Go home factor fading across the league" should be the subtexts for Warner's decision to say in Sydney.

Forever the optimist, in football.

But seriously, have Freo broken their window? How important are/were Fyfe and Walters?

Did they overdo it to get Jackson, Bolton, and even Hogan? How much did Will Brodie's inflated salary affect them?

Anyway, whatever comes, it is nice of Pickett to get himself into career-best form prior to any potential trades!

I don't think Warner was ever going to choose Freo over WC. Don't think Freo had the money. But they still would've put all their attention into him meaning Kozzie would've been more unlikely. If Bolton hadn't popped up at the end of last year Kozzie would be in purple already. Only thing stopping them now would be if a bigger fish feigns interest.

Realistically if there's any year to trade him it would be this year imo. At least then we get at least two first round picks unaffected by Tassie. Wait a year or two and the value of those picks will just get worse and worse (and let's be real, we're not doing anything in the next two years anyway).

They have guys on their list that would be of interest though. Murphy Reid is one who will likely end up in Victoria after his initial contract is up. May as well try and pry him out earlier. There was definitely truth to Jackson wanting to come home but all the latest on that was that they were working on a two year extension with him so that's looking unlikely.

Seeing how important and dominate Gawn was tonight perhaps losing Pickett and getting Jackson back to eventually help fill that eventual void is better than taking a punt on draft picks no matter how high they might be.

I thought the evolved theory on Jackson was that his mgmt were just leveraging the ‘move back to Melbourne’ story to get more coin at Freo?

Nah a lot played out very publicly in a Facebook comment section that made it clear that he’s definitely got reason for going back here. Look at the pics for his 100th game. Only one family member there. For a guy who moved back for family.

Whatever those issues are though apparently he loves Freo enough that he’s willing to overlook them to stay at the club. he has triggers that will take him to 2031 and apparently now his management is trying to get an extra two on top of that.

but the issues are very much real and there’s still a lot of time left until the end of the season….

Maybe in a small way. It’s mooted that they will get access to Tasmanian players in 2027 before they have a proper selection of picks in 2028.

However that’s if everything goes according to plan and they have will have their stadium ready in time ( I think 2030) which is starting to look unlikely.

Yeah it really wouldn't hurt to media to leak another rumour or two.

I reckon Jackson coming back is still a big watch. His press conference was done just to shut down the noise. He was told to say the right thing so they could focus on the season.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
