You just know that Kossie will have a stinker this week and then there will be hell to pay on DL re the length of his contract.

If he gets reported the whole football world will go into meltdown

Freo supporters over at Bigfooty are like a dog at a bone re: Kozzie:

"All good, we'll just trade for him in 2 years and Melbourne can pay half his salary....haha.....lol "

Let it go guys. Go now put your eggs in the Chad Warner basket.

Take a bow Tim Lamb for putting this together and getting it over the line.

That sort of short-sightedness is par for the course here

That was a great call DD. But such great credit to Kozzie to turn that potential into the genuine superstar of the competition he has become. How many players can have great junior careers and highlights reals that actually go on to have the AFL career that Kozzie has had just to date.

Thanks mate. Going 'all in' isn't usually my gig on most rookies and no gtees any of them will make the step up but there was 'special' written all over young Kozz from the get go.

And yes all credit to him and the club to getting where he is now.

Just needs to mature a tad, eliminating the undisciplined non 'team' slip ups from here (not alone... looking at Fritta et al) and we're looking good.

Can we have a separate thread to read their reactions? 🤣

I've got no qualms with the above comments and as mentioned multiple times in the last 24 hours, if you have the chance, sign him. This can be a wonderful thing.

But my only question, and I'd appreciate if it could be answered respectfully without being gaslit or accused of not watching/knowing anything about the game, is if the idea of the deal is to protect our bargaining power in future trades then why would it be a terrible idea to exercise this right now with 2 years left on his current contract and make this offer in 12 months time? Is it a case of his price only going up? Being super proactive and striking while the iron is hot?

I'm willing to be open to the fact that the contract landscape is changing. I also think that what Nasher mentioned about the flexibility and being able to move money around to other years of the contract makes it team friendly and something I haven't considered much before. What I ultimately want is players who want to play for the best football club in the world who want success and want it HERE and I hope he sees it that way.

Dunno if it's been answered already but what's to say Koz would want to sign in 12 months? At that's stage, if he was wanting out, he would just wait it out another 12 months til FA.

I think it is a good move Dr. I hope Kossie realises for this money you don't get reported. We can now concentrate on fixing our kpf problems. Fix that and we can start 2026 with a real chance of GF appearance.

They don't have numbers 0 thru 9 in stock at all times?

Take up too much space? Too complex? They only sell 43 sets?

'Sorry binman I know you want kozzie's number but we're all out of 3s sorry.

Can I interest you in a Windsor - half the the price!

Or I think we can do you a Laurie - wait hold on, sorry we're all out of 1s too.

How about a Jed or a Jai.

Alternatively, how about we put a 6 in place and you come back at a later date and we you can add the 3 - good valuw as you can have a salo flr a while and its insurance in case koz doesn't resign'

36 on my back here we come (subject to availability)!!!!

Not a fan at the length of the contract there can be too many variables that can go wrong as we have seen with other players in the league but then again contracts mean s nothing these days.

Kozzie, Kozzie, Kozzie, OIe, OIe, OIe.

DeeZone’s so excited he’s now Spanish 😃

A lot of people are not fans of these long contracts but I always thought part of it was to have greater certainty on contracts and salary cap up front with some lost security.

In reality the pies and the Grundy situation was cause for pause and it was argued at one stage whether Clarry would have ran into so many issues had he not had the reduced pressure of a long contract, but this case is different for mine.

The media had created a landscape around our club that was that our culture was toxic, Houston rejected us, Tracc and Clarry wanted out, we lost Jackson and then ANB to the go home factor and that Koz was next.

Koz has gone from an important player in our 2021 premiership to a playmaker, major midfield speed provider, and can break a game open in mere seconds.

Tell me who else on our list in the last thirty years could turn some of those almost nom existent opportunities into certain goals in milli seconds.

He is also tough. I've seen him bumped harder than many and never even lost his feet.

He is THE x factor we needed and we need more now many are aging.

For those question the length of the contract imagine the alternative. Contract negotiations off, constant media pressure and scrutiny and then he leaves and who replaces his unique talents?

I'll say it again - no one can.

Great news for the next few seasons, but ..............

(1) We have no way of knowing whether a 34-year-old Kozzy will have anywhere near the pace and zip that excite us all today.

(2) I hope the club has covered itself this time in terms of the payout due if his career is cut short for any reason.

Now let's dangle a carrot or two in front of Jackson and really annoy the Dockers.

Our rivalry with the Doggies has tapered down let's have a new one with Freo 😜

What is it that worries people, is it the length or the price?

If it's the price, well that will become a normal contract for A graders soon enough, if it's not already.

If it's the length, ask yourself this, do you think Kosi would be getting delisted in the next 9 years? Out of a list of 46 players, would he ever be so poor that he would be considered a 'list clogger'?

He's good enough to play midfield, but later in life could easily transfer his skills to half back, or even just remain as a deep forward pocket.

Charlie Cameron won a flag at 29, Elliot is 32 and in arguably career best form. Burgoyne was a meaningful player until he was 38.

Pickett has knock on wood been very physically resilient thus far in his career. Even if his speed drops off with age, his physical strength and his ball use won't. His skills will still serve him well into his early 30s.

Life is full of risks, but if you take no risks you get no rewards.

The reality is that players of his quality come around rarely, and when they do come around, they rarely want to go play for smaller clubs. If you happen to get lucky and draft a star, then you need to move heaven and earth to keep them. Teams win games, but stars win flags.

That is the complete opposite. Long contracts allow clubs to spread the money, whereas short term expensive contracts provide no flexibility. Warner is a great example at the Swans as his 2 year contract doesn’t provide them any flexibility.

Understand that but we’re is the flexibility in 2-3 years if any player wants move back home & the contract is large, having to pay a large chunk to pay for another club ..

Spot on D 3165 they are meaningful only as long as the player is enjoying it. For the club the benefit is they then control the narrative when negotiations start.
