I wouldn’t read too much into Kozzie’s answer in that interview (I have to do my time). He’s an introvert and always will be therefore his uncomfortableness with this sort attention (public interview) will always be manifested in awkward responses.

That's how I read it...

Wish we had of landed Nick Watson now 😭 We tried hard. In fact, this whole situation re Kozzy’s departure may have been sensed back then, hence why we went crazy and offered pick 6 + a future first to move up to Hawthorn’s pick (pick 4) and grab him. Would’ve ended up being pick 6 and the pick we used on Langford, wild !

I'm happy with Windsor...

Unless the picks/players match there’s no way I’m letting him go. He wants to go to Darwin, has family in WA and SA. He stays if I’m the head of football….which just quietly I should be. I think Richo is an amateur.

So Windsor and Langford for Watson? No thanks

For someone that doesn't like attention he has a funny way of trying to avoid it.

Totes different, Rab. Koz doesn’t like attention in the form of face-to-face interaction with someone he doesn’t know very well. Trying to take Mark of the Millennium will also attract attention just like sending texts for S&Gs (if true) but that’s attention he’s able to cope with and probably even enjoys. We have to bear in mind he’s only 23yo.

Let’s be united in our storylines, Kozzie is contracted until the end of 2027, Kozzie willingly signed the contract as did we. We are all emotionally involved in this contractual agreement. We must let everyone know that we are serious in our intentions to honour the agreement and are not interested in anyone’s attempt to change or end the agreement and ignore the side issues.😁👍

Very true. Three years time he will be 26 and may have a very different outlook.

Would be heartbroken to lose him, as would my nearly 4 year old.

And the worst part is Freo are so stacked and going to be good for so long that they’ve got nothing of value to give us, if the reports from @Dannyzare correct that all Freo’s Victorian boys are happy there are correct, which I’m sure they are as he usually has great mail.

After academy and father/son picks a pair or even three pick 20’s doesn’t really move the needle or give us anything close to what he’s worth to us.

That’s exactly the reason to hold him to the contract now. Freo will have to give decent contracts to Serong, Brayshaw, Treacy and Amiss you would think. They may struggle with salary requests in three years time.

Like Jackson at 3, no one else had the balls to pick him at 12 and if they replayed that draft today I can guarantee no one would have touched him before 15. We took the risk.

i think jackson and pickett would be fighting it out with chad warner, anderson, serong, and young as who falls out of the top 5 picks

the list goes on; rowell, rivers, greens, flanders, day, georgiades, weightman, bergman, keidi coleman - that draft was stacked with top tier talent

Coach has already done that and Footy Manager too.

The hype on this kid is wildly out of proportion with what he has shown so far.

He kicked 18 goals last year (remembering he is a goal kicking small, not really a defensive pressure small like Koz) and I saw a headline the other day predicting he would be All Australian this year.

Spare me.

Before last night's game Burgoyne was asked who might be BOG for all-stars. He said kossie or Rankine.

Yep that’s a good point 👍

Along with the huge $ Jackson and Darcy are on…

If kozzie does go, I wonder if Murphy Reid could be part of the equation. Didn't look too thrilled to be selected by freo on draft night. Smooth moving midfielder who was metros MVP.

Bit of a whinge, but if he does end up going it's pretty heartbreaking for our supporter base more than anything. A difference maker, unpredictable, incredibly skilful with the discipline and application to match. About to hit his absolute prime age and maturity, getting physically stronger and on track as one of the best small forwards of all time.

Like Jackson at 3, no one else had the balls to pick him at 12 and if they replayed that draft today I can guarantee no one would have touched him before 15. We took the risk.

We've subsequently potentially over invested (relative to players with lesser needs) in his wellbeing, connections back home and overall happiness.

He's been a champion for us and it's his life, you can't begrudge him for making a decision for family - but it will be gut wrenching to see him turn it on for another team. He's our special player - someone the opposition genuinely fears and cannot contain.

Would just suck so much to lose him right in his prime

Great post.

Players like Kozzy are 1/1 & you just can’t afford to lose them.

He’s got everything in his game which we love about footy. Reason’s why we go to the footy.

If he continues on this upward trajectory, & has the year that everyone in footy land believes he will, then we’ll be heavily compensated - & you should all have no doubts about that - The worry’s the fact that we just lose a great player in Kozzy with his best years ahead of him.

Supporters & club would be gutted.

flagmantle were meant to be a serious finals contender shortly after they were invented - failed to achieve much, despite having some super players

flagmantle were meant to be a serious finals contender after they poached ross lyon in the dead of the night - failed to achieve much, made one grand final, despite having pavlich, one of the greatest footballers of his era

flagmantle were meant to be a serious finals contender under longmuir - have thus far failed to achieve much, made one finals series in 5 years

i don't know why anyone takes them seriously nor why any sensible player would want to go there

We could probably condense this thread;

Kossie wants to go

Kossie isn’t going anywhere

There is a story that he he is homesick

He cant go - we’ll hold him to his contract, we hold the power

Future trading changes might help Freo satisfy us in a trade

Doesnt matter Kossie isn’t going anywhere

and repeat

Importantly , the year the 20th century ended

did that get resolved

ONLY on a demons site would you find stuff like that 😂😂🤌

The old theory is that a champion team will always beat a team of champions. Well, they were no good against the All Stars, who were a team of champions......

I respectfully disagree GW. Our club has been a walking headline for at least the last 12 months and Goody said himself recently it has been an unwanted distraction. With BP5 & Clarry's issues now in the rear view mirror (hopefully) we don't need another needless headline that will now be brought up by the press throughout 2025. Goody and JVR have already been asked about it in interviews and we haven't played our first game yet. It's poor form to be liking social media posts speculating or declaring he'll be at a rival club next year. More so if he's expecting the club to release him from a contract he signed only a year ago. Respect works both ways.

The same thing might have been said about us prior to 2021.

It’s going to happen. They’ve got comfortably the best list of 25yo and unders in the competition and very few holes in their list. If you don’t realise that you’re not paying enough attention.

I’ve seen this said repeatedly

Still yet to see it play out on field

They look like they’ll be great… let’s see

Also, Goodwin’s 5th season in charge saw us win a premiership, taking Goodwin to a 5-1 finals record

Longmuir’s finals record is 1-1 in 5 completed seasons

I agree with you Rab. I was just pointing out the different types of attention sought in relation to introverts (in reply to your comment about someone who claims they don’t want attention but sends texts that denote otherwise) I wasn’t condoning Kozzie’s actions by any means.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
