Probably one of the best players in the past 20 years at the club says he has problems with the club, and the President hasn't spoken to him or his family.......

simply unbelievable!

Can anyone imagine Eddie McGuire saying "I haven't spoken with the family"?

He'd be at their bloody doorstep.

Seriously the club buckled here and gave into Demonland hysteria for Roffey to speak.

Not sure if having a club President rock up on someone's doorstep is a good thing.  They really need to be separate from the footy department in my view.

I can't see why she wouldn't have at least made a phone call to him wishing him all the best in his recovery - especially being our best and probably most marketable player.  That seems a big miss for me.

It definitely wasn't a wonderful interview but I'm not sure what more can be said at present.

Did anyone expect her to open up on all the problems that are going on within the club?

She said she has been in intensive care, so why has she not spoken to Tracc for some support and reasurrance.

Especially with all this going on.

They use to call John Gotti the "Teflon Don" because none of the accusations again him would stick what could we call Katey?

I'm not a Roffey fan, but I'm not sure what people are realistically expecting her to say.

She's not going to fire people on the radio.  She's not going to say how hurt / disappointed / angry they are with Trac.

It seems a bit odd that she hasn't spoken with him.  But given his apparent grievances, it makes sense that this is handled by the football department.  Do people think everyone calling Trac now is going to help - it's probably more likely to push him away.

She's not going to go on about any internal problems that are still either simmering away or being dealt with - as the media will spawn more articles on whatever she says.  So she has to try to straight bat everything.

She's certainly not going to advocate for a full externall review.

It is really a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation.

Having said that, while all this stuff with the ex-Pres continues, it seems like its very hard for the likes of her and Pert to get on with the job and for the club to get any clear air.  Gawn is trying to generate this - with the contract extension and talk of helping Clarry get back to AA form.

As per the other thread re selflessness, this has to start at the top.  What is the true selfless action for our leaders such as Roffey and Pert.  I don't know the situation well enough but it could be stepping aside until all the legal challenges are done... equally it could be continuing on in fixing the club despite all the criticism.  I think most of us really don't have an idea what is going on - judging people's effectiveness just from their media answers is probably unfair.

As I've said how could you not talk to trac. My gosh you are the president.

Unless if she doesn't have a great opinion of him & wants hom secretly gone.

Did she happen to mention goody at all or say anything about our disastrous season?

Whoever that Melbourne supporter Lady who's just rang SEN and torn shreds about Roffey.. give her a gold medal!

If she really said that, there's no other option but for her to step aside and let someone else to lead the club.

Yes, she may have others in the FD or coaching staff that primarily manage relationship with players. However, in times of crisis she should be on top of things!

Was happy to state that Kozzie is not leaving but couldn't say anything about Petracca because he hasn't spoken to him.

She's a dead set liability

Maybe, and please do not think for a second that I am in any way shape or form defending her, we have some decent offers for Trac now, and seeing how he's behaved and the feelings of the group towards him, she knows a trade is more likely now than it was before?

If she has not spoken to him or his family, she's negligent, but equally she might be aware that there are deals being worked out but doesn't want to discuss it in a public forum so to bring more heat?

I don't know really.

Surely she would have called to offer best wishes etc .......... surely ????

Had wanted Roffey to speak. Now I wish she hadn't. Abysmal. The reference to 'they' always getting homesick. Unbelievably inept. Expect a [censored]. Now seriously concerned about the club.

What a [censored] show of an interview. Surely she needs to resign. We are leaderless. The lot have to go to save our beloved club.

Thinking the same thing.

Shes the head of the club and should be doing absolutely everything to get the club on track and find out EVERY single problem within it.

I hate Eddie as much as the next person but at least he was always front and centre.

Was excited to find the audio but having read the posts I really can’t be bothered.

I was fine with board silence as long as they had a plan for changes. Or were at least working quietly on fixing things.

Instead it seems they’re doing nothing?

when i was president of my local soccer club, i literally spoke to the players ALL THE TIME. i WANT them to come to me with concerns ideas etc. i would never, ever touch tactics or team selection, thats the coaches job. but goddamn i wanted to know if theyre unhappy and why. so i could either fix it or explain why it is the way it is.

she hasnt spoken to him or his family is absolutely gobsmacking.

Melbourne supporters are ringing in and are going to absolute town on Roffey on SEN.

The real question is, how do the members put enough pressure on this board to improve? Because the avenues seem pretty limited right now.

Nobody wants to hurt the club, least of all financially.

100% You need to have this comm channel to get an independent view of the FD.

How is this person a leader at any level? This is a monumental failure and frankly if she is left standing at the end of this I’ll lose complete faith in this club.

If an external review wasn't on the cards before this interview then it must now be forced onto the club by the AFL.

A more horribly run organisation I have never seen and I've been involved in overseeing many voluntary and involuntary administrations.

Roffey should have spoken to Petracca. This is a marque player who is destabilising the club she leads. Why would you, as leader, not reach out and try to mend the relationship or negotiate? Poor leadership.

If she has spoken to him, but wanted to keep details private, then state that instead of lying and looking incompetent and feeling the negative narrative. Poor leadership.

Seems we need new leadership at the top. I hope we see those meaningful changes over the off-season.

Pert needed to take that interview, now we know why she has been in hiding. Anything football related should be Pert commercial side Kate.

We need Peter Jackson in to do an external review. He has finished a full review of the Western Bulldogs earlier this season. Furthermore I think we should get him in to replace Pert. Who knows, the AFL may step in and demand it (again)

Anything about the 'they' remark? Because I can tell you, it will cause a furore.

You know who they should roll out from the board to speak about football matters? Brad Green.

Former player, turned board member. He should be the one getting involved in football matters. Is this not why he was put on the board to begin with?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
