The MFC were supposed to train at the MCG this morning, but were disallowed at the last minute because Fremantle wanted to train there!!! It is OUR home ground, Freo can wait until we have finished like we have to at Subi!!! WTF is going on???

cmon people...where's the real surprise....we havent had OUR home ground since Richmond moved in..and then...and then !!... this is what happens when you become cellar dwellers!!

Footy divide widening: Daniher

And Daniher fired a shot at the Melbourne Cricket Club for giving Fremantle permission to train on the MCG on Thursday ahead of the Dockers' match against Collingwood on Friday night.

"How disappointing is that where Freo will get a run on the MCG when it's supposed to be our home ground and we can't train on it?"

Daniher said he puts in regular requests to train at the 'G and he's knocked back every time.

"We get on early in the year and we might get on later in the year if the curator thinks the ground is in good enough condition. That's it."

It is utterly pathetic that the MCG will allow Fremantle to train on the MCG, and not us... The original tenants of the ground!

I hope the club takes this to the AFL, who while they don't have control of the MCG, should still raise the issue with the MCC.

Why are we always the ones who get screwed over?

Posted

in all reality the MCC dont need the AFL as much as they need the MCC ... The MCC will again tell them to get knicked !!

maybe if the club averaged more than 5 people at a game they'd have more pull??

but surely we have more pull than Fremantle

Absolutely nothing to do with it.

We are the original and longest serving tenants of the MCG. It is OUR ground and we should be allowed to train on it.

If nobody is given permission to train there, like with TD, fine.

But there can't ever be a situation where we are refused entry, and yet an unsuccessful interstate team playing an insignificant game is allowed to have a run.

Even if it were relevant, as someone else mentioned, in Melbourne we have more pulling power than Freo.

whats the point of training on it anyway? will it impove performance?. we play on it every week nearly, whereas a team like fremantle probaly only has 2 games there a year. dont see the big deal

Do you think we would be getting preference over Freo to train at Subiaco even though we only play there once or twice a year and they play there every second week?

The problem is as the original MCC tennant and tied historically thereto we are unable to strike a deal with stadia like every other club in the AFL. We are being done over both ways. That's plenty to be unhappy about so don't be dismissive.

This is a big deal. I heard PG on SEN say the we couldn't do drills that involved key positions on Junction oval because it is too small.

So I'm guessing training on the MCG is a really important part of our preparation.

I want to know when this decision was made. If it was literally last minute than that is [censored].

Kind of thing that makes me want to give up my MCC membership.

This is becoming a joke! We get kicked off by the former whipping boy of the competition. I really think that we have taken that role now we just get pushed over a little too much for my liking

The MCC have never forgave Melbourne after the Dees told them they could go it alone....bad move. I'm not a huge fan of the MCC, but they should have remained a "team".

Melbourne need to make a stand on this issue, they get treated like dirt each time and they just sit back and take it passively.

It brings true meaning to the definition "interstate invaders". Get off OUR ground Freo!

it's had enough we let those mongrels PLAY on our ground, let alone TRAIN! far out, what a joke. hope the club doesn't let it pass by without suficient murmur!

This whole issue is a real worry. Even more so when you think about the fact that we have just signed up to a deal that will see us training on a rectangle 'pitch' no more that 100mtrs long.

It's a pity we didn't know St Kilda's plight earlier; perhaps we could have teamed up with them and developed a FOOTBALL ground like Port Melbourne oval.

It makes me unbelievably angry to think that we are the oldest team in the competition, loyal to the MCG and still we haven't got the best deal there, or even something workable, and that we have to fork out 'cold hard cash' when the interstate teams come over to play.

Perhaps the club needs to seriously look at the possibility of playing some of those games down at Geelong, where they would at least make some money if only 15K turned out to watch; it can't be any worse than a 'home game' at Princess Park for Christ's sake!!!

Back to the training issue.....perhaps the club needs to develop its relationships with a private school(s) around Melbourne to come up with a suitable, all year round, training venue on a FOOTBALL OVAL with similar dimensions to our 'alleged' home ground, the MCG.

Geez the board is going to be busy this coming off season. First they have to find a new coach and then a new home ground. Oh well, this might be the 'rocket' that finally gets all those MCC 'supporters' to buy a membership; expecially is they have to travel to the Geelong or the Dome for a home game, where their MCC membership buy them diddly-squat.

2007 - Play the kids, sack the coach and F#$% the rest.

Martin Boulton | June 1, 2007

MELBOURNE'S continuing anger at its restricted training access to the MCG spilled over yesterday as Fremantle was permitted to train at the stadium ahead of tonight's match with Collingwood.......

The Demons' limited access to the playing surface long has been a source of frustration for Daniher, who said the club's regular requests to train there were refused mostly......

MCG tenants Melbourne, Richmond and Collingwood, as well as clubs playing home games at the venue, are allowed to train on the ground during the first six weeks of the season, weather permitting........

So I assume that all tenants are in the same boat regarding the use of the ground.

(I am choosing to ignore the fact that Collingwood and Richmond have their own training facilities)

But in the end it is hypocritical to let one team on and not another, especially one which is as attached to the MCG as we are.

And it only highlights our fairly obvious deficiencies in this particular area.

Do some homework chief - the move to the Olympic Park precinct does not include us training on a soccer pitch.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
