darkhorse72 1,943 Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 Who cares... But an interesting stat from during the week after last weekend. He's got the second highest number of games without a single contested mark. Matt Rowel has the record but had his first last week. As a footy player I find that amazing, but show his role in the team of being basically an outside receiver. Hopefully Bont wins this year, but he will win at least 1 as he does what the umpires notice. 2 Quote

It was wet, the pies forward line brained us for pace even without Lever and we couldn’t move the ball through the midfield most of the night yet alone find tall forwards on the lead. The obsession with Jefferson is unhealthy. 1 1 Quote

Although it is an interesting stat, I disagree that it shows that he is basically an outside receiver considering Matt Rowell held the record and he's a contested bull. Teams are only averaging 9.6 contested marks a game this season - they're few and far between. Contested marks for leading possession winners, 2024 Nick Daicos: 0 / 694 Tom Green: 2 / 673 Adam Treloar: 3 / 662 Caleb Serong: 2 / 655 Zak Butters: 0 / 638 Noah Anderson: 0 / 634 Patrick Cripps: 7 / 633 Andrew Brayshaw: 1 / 627 Luke Davies-Uniacke: 1 / 624 Zach Merrett: 2 / 614 Nick Daicos is ranked fifth for average first possessions at stoppages and first for gathers from hitout. He may not win as many hard ball gets as some, but he definitely wins plenty of his own ball. 1 1 Quote

If your tag works on Nick Daicos (and I know Josh got up there last night too), you.completely stifle their ball movement and their ability to score from defensive 50 and stoppage, because he does it all. Daicos’ worst game this year was arguably KB, when ANB tagged him right out of it. We didn’t get near them. 2 Quote

Nibbler won't be playing with us next year, so we had an eye to educating McVee on Daicos, and I'm sure we hoped he'd be able to nullify him, but around stoppage Daicos is so difficult to play on. And then for whatever reason McVee didn't hand off to a player higher up the ground or didn't go with Daicos. Daicos' movement was smart, his patterns are incredible, and it may have just been an inexperience thing on McVee and the rest of our team that Daicos and Collingwood exploited. I actually don't think it was a coaching thing. Because when Nibbler went to him in the last, he still had 12 touches, the same as he had in the first quarter. But IMO, it showed how very possible it is to heat Collingwood. He had all the confidence in the world after the easiest opening to a game he will probably ever have in his career. I understand it was ANB's last game but why not run with it for the 1st qtr? Tried and tested. Shocking match up with Salo. Edited August 24, 2024 by YesitwasaWin4theAges 2 Quote

pitmaster 3,592 Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 The Brownlow is rubbish determined by fools as most serious supporters understand, but it has a wider impact on club morale and individual player status. That’s why I hope the Bont wins it. Anything that makes Collingwood feel good is best avoided. Bont is also more deserving. He plays, and does his best work, against actual opponents. Daicos is most effective playing solo. 1 Quote

Why is it that all teams elect to go with a hard tag On Clarry , blocking, harrasing, niggling which has worked somewhat in some games this year, but for anyone to be accountable for Daicos??? Nar too hard. This is down to Goodwins coaching and one of the major reasons we not only lost the game, but probably handed this free running non accountable player a Brownlow!! They also tagged our best Mid, Vines, who ended up with a player rating a mile off the off-the-charts rating he put up against the Suns last week. Barely fired a shot. If it's not Clarry it's Vines and that makes sense as he is our main extractor. Chandler is also another run with option for Nick. Not a great year for Mr Goodwin i'm afraid. The Pies have been doing a number on Simon since the final round in 2017. He's learned nothing in 7 seasons. 1 Quote

I reckon he's a gun at stoppages, but gets a heap of handball receives when he plays half back, and when he runs forward from stoppage. He gets a lot of basically uncontested marks as well because he runs into the space. He's a brilliant player, but you can more than halve his disposal count by playing a runner on him to cut down on those uncontested possessions that help Collingwood maintain possession. Stopping him winning stoppage is tougher though and they block very well for him. 1 Quote

It was contested marks, it could be explained by the fact he runs har to space and therefore not in a contested position when receiving kicks. An interesting stat is the number of marks he takes per game as a compassion. Quote
