What a disappointing career for schace given his draft position and hype. He'll dominate some suburban league next year. Good luck to him

He could kick 10 Goals a game in suburban footy.  Had the talent.  Dedication and desire seemed to be missing.

Always tough time notifying players that they won't be receiving contracts.

Beauty about it is that they would have been getting some good communication (I hope) around where they stood and they'd know deep down that they wouldn't be getting contract especially when you're still struggling at suburban level.

Knowing his personality, wouldn't surprise me to see Schache back playing for Seymour in the GV league next year with his mates.

KFW will be playing for Chelsea in the MPFNL next year. Hopefully in division 1. Go Gulls and go Dees!!!!!

I'm curious @Dee Viney Intervention, what do they have at 3/4 time? Oranges or chips?

So.  Gus , j Smith, bbb, these two,

only need a couple more and it will be 30%

Unfortunate for both of these boys.
Schache just couldn’t take his chances and wasn’t the aggressive beast that Goodwin wanted.
KFW probably needed another 3 years to develop his skills and get physically stronger.
He’ll need to workout whether to stick with it or return to basketball.

I used to think he was close to becoming another Petracca, and but he hasn't really evolved.

He's as solid and  probably close to as strong as CP but I don't think he reads the play as well. He tackles hard and notches up a lot of them but yea I'm sure your opinion of him is not unique.

Can't imagine we would get a great deal for him but he does have a lot of experience under his belt now, so you never know.

Unfortunately we don't have a great deal of midfield depth so it might be wiser to hang onto him for emergencies. But it's not the strongest of arguments to keep him on.

He. He. Who are we talking about? Sparrow?

i'm disappointed we're not in the conversations for any of the gw$ or gc17 wantaway players like cumming, peatling, lukosious, although apparently we were keen on angwin...that seems to have gone quiet

going to be a busy off-season that's for sure

Do you know that we aren’t?

MELBOURNE has made two changes to its AFL list, informing Josh Schache and Kyah Farris-White they will not receive a contract for the 2025 season.

Barely news. Most obvious delisting in the clubs history.

Take a breath mate. They will.

He’s smartly biding his time. At this rate he’ll be the only player wanting to stay with us and we need to spend a minimum $ of our cap.

Last one remaining gets 100% of the cap. Genius really.

May be upgraded from rookie to main list, which would change the nature of the deal?? Ie, when it can be announced (draft night)

On borrowed time: Adams,  Woewodin, Kentfield, Verrall.

Verrall has shown signs stepping straight into the vfl no1 role as a teenager, trust the process with him.

Kentfield i agree has been really uninspiring but given age, he gets another year

Woey has shown signs, i liked him (and KBrown) in the half forward nibbler role more than i like him at half back, i dont think he kicks it overly well

Adams i agree havent really heard or seen much to suggest he's making strides at casey and could be a bust

Are the One more year??? Players contracted?

If possible I'd recommend keeping only Spargo , Woey and maybe Hore.

The rest of , we should delist.

I mean we haven't played Fullerton all year....why keep him.

Laurie never seems to excel.

Billings all over the place.  McAdam the same.

Well maybe Billings gersa second chance but that's it.

Agree with giving Tmac another year especially if Tommo is moving on and Milk due to fwd line issues.

So that would be around 15 gone.....in 15 seconds .

I don't like the term list cloggers and a couple in that 15 are fantastic players.

But 2024 did see us with a lot of players we simply never played or ones that simply didn't perform on a regular basis.

15 is a fair amount for sure.

Edited by leave it to deever

@leave it to deever I agree there’s a few more that would not be part of the future.  But we have to keep them to honour contracts (Laurie, Billings, McAdam, Fullarton) or just to keep some sense of stability (which is crumbling quickly).
It shows how quickly our depth has been eroded.  We were tight for list spots and perhaps didn’t give JJ or Bedford the sense of security.  Deakyn Smith also unlucky to go but we were limited for spots.  Now as you mentioned, we could find plenty to delist !!!

Thanks SoNS

In finding 14 to 15 (Gus and Nibbler don't count) then it helps explain why are season was so bad at times.

I hope if we go poaching for some top up experience we do much better.

I miss not playing finals. Big time

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.
