Not if we want the opportunity to put the final nail in Collingwouldn’t’s season 2024 coffin!

No it completely goes against playing JVR, Petty and Turner together to build cohesion in our forward line. Also with BBB involved in coaching our AFLW team he isn't really going anywhere and will continue to have a positive influence around the club.

Interesting that he isn’t being used to help teach our forwards proper leading patterns.
Could he, were he interested, make the perfect  replacement forward coach for Stafford?  Seems very well liked, and respected.

I would fully expect he has been mentoring and guiding our young forwards since joining our club. For all of the noise re our poor forward line I think it is more a matter of having the right personnel and consistency than system or structure. Heading into last seasons finals campaign our forward line was very dangerous until Melksham went down with injury.

Play him. He's well loved and gave his all to the club in the short time he's been here. Nothing demonstrates team unity and loyalty better than sending off a solid contributor. Look at all the flak Essendon are getting by not giving Heppell a farewell game at home.

Only downside as far as i can see, is one less opportunity to see Petty, Turner, JVR together one last time after they clicked on the weekend- but hopefully they'll feature together for a long time.

Also tbh I'm also not desperate for us to win this one...

Yes to a farewell game.

Gawn wins the tap. Viney on the deck, scoops the ball out to Neal-Bullen. Sizes up his options, hits the charging Rivers with the handpass. Long kick deep from the 50 - BROWN TAKES THE MARK AT FULL STRETCH! Winding back the clock!

Brown from 30 out, slight angle. Takes his trademark run up… Goal umpire doesn’t move! The crowd are on their feet AND LOOK AT THE PLAYERS GET AROUND HIM! The premiership full forward!

This game is a dead rubber. It's a glorified exhibition match. Let’s make it a feel good celebration. Surely we deserve that after this emotional whirlwind of a year.

Hnmm I am pondering this, he was excellent yesterday from all accounts and 6 goals in a losing team with average delivery makes it a "Brilliant "game. But who would he replace?? Petty played his best game of the season as did Disco, so that leaves a rejig of forwards. Could we be tempted to go tall with Petty, Disco,Rooey, and BBB??? this could mean dropping Chandler, who has been OK, or someone else. I would say Sparrow will be missing so obviously Milkshake is in the 22, anyway would NOT begrudge him a farewell game at all. He has been fantastic for MFC and is a TOP BLOKE as well! Thoughts??

Not like we are playing finals. Give him a go.

He's been good for the club and helped break the drought.

Love BBB, and up until half way through this year believed we were still a better team when he was in the side. He was such a vital cog in 2021. But send off games are best reserved for ex-Captains, or other more significant players. So unless one of the current tall forwards are injured or being managed, no, to a send off game. Lets acknowledge him is some other way.

Your right. Good post .

I've changed my mind.

They should be reserved for lifelong players and captains.

Bbb while instrumental in our 21 success probably needs to be acknowledged but not in playing.

I love BBB but it's a no for me.

We need every bit of available game time to keep playing Petty/JVR/Turner together so they continue developing.

For me now its all about the future and these three have had some good moments over the last couple weeks - I'm definitely against making any changes.

I'm sure if he is pulling the pin that he'll get the chance for a great farewell either completing a lap after the game and again on GF day.

Ben Brown was at training today, but was not training with main group. He was working with rehab group.

He is no longer a player for the top 23, who will replace Sparrow, so it is a no from me, yes he played for Casey and kicked 6 goals but his body no longer lets him play at the top level.

If we give BBB a farewell senior appearance do we do the same for Lachie Hunter who is sitting on 199 games?

I'd rather pick our strongest 23 and bury them.

Totally agree. Question asked should be ‘does this selection improve our chances of beating the Ferals?’.

If the answer is ‘no’, bad luck mate but we still love you. Remember Jones’s omission for the 2021 GF.

I think a grand final is slightly different to a dead rubber, but I do understand the sentiments.

I am conflicted on this issue, and would be fine whichever way the club chooses to go.

It’s mostly dependent on Petty’s health and desire for one last game in this wretched season we’ve put him though.

If Harry’s happy to keep going then we keep going with him. If he’s keen to put the feet up then I don’t need convincing, the quicker he can have a good rest and start a proper preseason the better.

We’ll need a fresh runner to replace Sparrow. Saturday was nice and we played pretty well with the taller forward line but it’s a battle to back up again for a game with nothing on the line. Laurie probably should be given another chance.

He has not announced his retirement so cannot be considered for a 'special' game umtil at least then.

My view would be no in any case.  We are going with, JVR, Petty and Disco.

I too am conflicted. Had the last game not been against Collingwood, I perhaps would see things differently.

(Words cannot describe how much I despise the Filth)

We could simultaneously acknowledge Brown, Hunter and Schache for their part in the 2021 premiership.

Benny was unbelievable during that '21 finals series. He'll be a much loved figure in retirement.

Hopefully we find a role for him off field so we can keep him around the club.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
