Clarkson said nothing of the sort

He said he’d be interested in signing any mature player like Jack Viney.  Luke Parker also mentioned. Clarkson (Thursday) said it’s poor to even name players as the off season circus starts and to do so is very very bad taste.  Clarkson on Friday stated some players names he’d be interested in !!! The guy is bi polar !!!

I like when posters on here say journalists are only chasing click bait.

5 pages on Demonland on a non story.

Must have worked.

So what are you doing here?  Being clickbaited by the clickbaited?

It's like the rubberneckers ... everyone does it (with no exceptions)

The trouble with these rumours is that every now and again, one of the rumours is more than a rumour

Fake news - alive and well in the AFL

I like coming here when I am feeling down, like rainy mornings, some of the humour on here cheers me up immensely.

A murmur, a rumour with an identify crisis.

If Jack Viney says he is leaving, that is when I believe.

Not interested whatsoever in the clickbaiting of Cornes, Morris et al.

From Jack Viney ...

Dear members,

I wanted you to be the first to know that I’ll officially be a Demon for life. Today I agreed to a contract extension that will see me pull on the red and blue all the way through until 2028. Let’s be honest, I was never going anywhere.

This footy club has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Melbourne is more than just a club to me – it’s home. The connection I feel to the jumper, its history, and our passionate supporters runs so deep, and I am incredibly proud to continue on this journey with you all.

I have created some special memories over the past 12 seasons and formed some amazing bonds. The love and respect I have for my teammates and coaches, as well as the staff and the whole club, is unrivalled.

Working and learning alongside my coach Goody, skipper Max and the broader leaders continues to be a privilege, and I am so thankful for the way our club focuses on growing us not only as players but as people.

On a personal note, my family absolutely loves being around this football club. My wife Charlotte, along with our daughters Mila and Chloe, have formed their own strong bonds, and singing the song in the rooms with them after a win never gets old. I’m excited for my daughters to create further memories here, and who knows, maybe one day we’ll even see them running out in the red and blue for the Melbourne AFLW team!

The support that we’ve received from you, our incredible members, has been unwavering as always. I know it hasn’t been the year we all had hoped for, but we have a real opportunity to finish our season on Friday night in a manner that makes you all proud to belong. As Goody has said publicly, this week is another chance for us to really show what we are made of as a football club.

Today, the boys heard from Melbourne royalty in Hassa Mann. This weekend he and some of his 1964 premiership winning teammates, will celebrate the 60th anniversary of their flag. We will honour them as part of the pre-game, and let’s acknowledge the legacy they’ve left on our club by filling the stands with red and blue. Hassa spoke to the strong rivalry between us and the Pies and expressed how much it would mean to him and his teammates if we can get the win.

It's also Member Thank You Round, where we can acknowledge you, the heart of our footy club. It’s something we speak about a lot, making you all proud to belong, and it means a lot to the group to feel your support behind us.

Friday will also be a chance to honour the great Big Ben Brown, who will do a lap of honour with his family at half-time. It will also be Alex Neal-Bullen’s final game in the red and blue and a chance to say thank you for his contribution to our club.

So fair to say we’ve got a lot to play for.

Whilst there is a lot of hard work ahead, there’s also undoubtedly a lot of good times to come. I have full faith in this group and this club. The challenge on Friday night and beyond, is one we will tackle head on. And if there’s one thing Dad taught me, it’s that when you tackle, you tackle with intent.

Go Dees!

The huge mistake Hawthorn made was miscalculating the value of their leaders, and trading them out.

By trading Lewis and Mitchell in the same off season and Hodge the year later, they decimated their leadership stocks, which IMO has seen them bottom out for too long.

Compare this with Geelong, whilst not completely apt given their geographical and lifestyle advantages, their players have been allowed to play on until the very ends of their careers.

This has meant standards have been maintained and leadership knowledge and know how has been passed on to the next generation of leaders in the club.

We had a void of leaders when our current senior players were coming up through the ranks. Now we have them, we need to follow Geelong's model.

We've already lost Gus who continues to be described as the glue that made everyone around him better, we don't want to follow this up with the loss of another leader.

It's why I'd be re-signing TMac and Melksham for another year, so that around Max, Lever, May and Viney, we have a senior leadership core that can continue to mentor the emerging leaders like JVR and Rivers, and hold our players who might not be meeting required Melbourne standards, to account.

I'm disappointed that this Trac stuff has come out, because I think a real leader would have made sure this stayed internal, and forced change from within. Having to resort to such public spillages may put pressure on the FD, but I think massively undermines Trac's leadership and ability to lead from now on.

But that's an aside. The main point I'm making here is we need to ensure our best leaders stay, and if the FD and leadership group deem certain players are not demonstrating elite standards, they should be traded.

If there's one thing you could never knock Jack Viney about it would be elite standards.

We're following the Geelong model.

Great to have Jack re-signed until 2028.

If you thought I didn’t like Max’s deal just wait until you hear my thoughts on this one.

What an absolute joke.

4 years for a beat up one dimensional mid who has to nurse a cooked shoulder through half the game.

We all love Jack. We all want to keep Jack, but 2 years was the deal. 4???

Seriously, what are we doing here???

And we are surprised that guys like Tracc are looking out for number 1 when we just hand out whatever our leaders want?

Something is badly wrong here and we are bribing our leaders in to staying.

Jack Viney

Just heard he’s not playing Friday, tribunal have already given him 6 weeks for this.

Yeah it was a nice touch.

Sucks to hear him mention ANB on his way out the door. Irreplaceable in my book.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
