I have every right to be p****d off with Christian Petracca. I don’t like him, I’ve never liked him and I have perfectly valid reasons for not liking him. This isn’t a reflection of me; other DA members dislike him for the same reasons. Him putting himself before the club just cements it.

I’m not gonna praise him for attending a match, and I think it’s sad that the focus of today’s match was his presence. He attended a W match. So [censored] what?! It’s gonna take some of us way more than one act of tokenism to regard him in a different way.

This is my opinion and I’m entitled to it just like everyone else is.

edit: the first of the regulars has already FacePalmed my comment. Thought I’d get a vomit emoji but I’m sure that’ll come.

What are the reasons u and some other DA don’t like him W?

The entitlement from some of them is ridiculous.

Stop hassling them and just leave them be. Bernie Vince is all round of the most genuine blokes you could ever meet.

Can you imagine being a professional footballer and having to deal with nuffie supporters craving your attention ?

And then being publicly character assassinated without having the opportunity to respond ?

Some of them are making this site unreadable.

Can I just say watching Carlton tonight that the suggestion McKay was overs or even par for Tracc is laughable. And their midfield is very one-speed already.

Take no notice of the AFL media circus NSC.  Anything to make out that we are no good and have a bad culture.

Whenever they dont have a story or need one they make something up about us and pretend it's a real issue.

Complete dunderheads who will always pander to their love children and preferred marquee players.

Tracs actions created friction and a lot of alarmist media reporting.

Obviously all hasn’t been right at the club, so it might be the spark that inadvertently helps us turn the corner. Roffey, Stafford and a few other changes may help us change direction and get back on the right track.
It would be a pity if we can’t win another flag as it would be a waste of three of the most talented players to play for the Demons in the last fifty years in Max, Trac and Oliver!

Trac made a stand and this may bring about change. We finished 14th. Change is needed.

If you cannot see what has happened in the last few weeks with Trac as a positive I am not sure what to say.

Pleasing to see him attend the AFLW today.

Really, who cares..

The only thing that should matter is what he does on field and if it means he helps us win a final next year then no cares if a bunch of Demon Army supporters hate him.

You think guys like Buddy and Dusty were liked by all their own supporters? Absolutely not. They had that air of arrogance that people didn't like, but they could back it up on the footy field which Petracca has done so.

I know! And only getting paid a million dollars a year. The nerve.

The reality is that sport is entertainment, and as a result there is a trade off in terms of a relationship between fans and athletes. The club knows this all too well - because they essentially sell access to the players as sponsorship.

It’s immature to think the fans aren’t a critical part of the game - just as an audience is to a film. They (we) literally pay for the whole thing.

Maybe you shouldn’t.

Petracca may be an arrogant [censored], I don’t know, but that is the world of elite sportsmen and women who are celebrities and have high pressure and physically demanding jobs but also have a requirement to be a humble servant of the club and those on the periphery at all times.

We have got to ask less of these people - I demand respectful behaviour, professionalism, and performance and will forgive indiscretions.

Further to this - this club is on a 5 year hiding to nothing if we can’t move past the past few months.

Are we to boo him?

Are we to call him out on the street?

Are we to make it certain his departure through our actions?

Really?

Goodwin is obviously trying to salvage what’s best for the club.

Can we give the space to do that or are we to take on the persona of the club to ensure any slight remains personal and any disloyalty is punished into infinitum?

I think it’s just fresh. I imagine most folks will move on pretty quickly next season, particularly if there are wins.

Football teams are very tribal too. Most of us don’t have a choice. It’s a family thing that we inherited, or it was a very early life choice that is ingrained. It’s quite a unique relationship between sports teams and their fans. It’s a bit like the mob, once you’re in there’s only one way out. So people will back in the institution over the individual in that circumstance, because they have a fierce loyalty to the immortality of the institution.

This is a pretty rubbish post WCW, you complain when supporters denigrate our players due to their on field performance yet you're here denigrating one of our players due to his personality which is far worse.

Like him or not Petracca is a legend of this club, playing a large hand in delivering us our first flag in a lifetime.

This has no relevance to the discussion at hand. Players have all sorts of duties that they are expected to perform outside of the playing arena, which aren't written in their contract. Some players may go above and beyond that, others may choose not to.

If Petracca is in the latter group, it doesn't justify being vilified by what may amount to .01% of our supporter group. And we're not talking about kids here.

A lot of people say WCW is too positive, and say that she should recognise *insert whatever issue with the club and/or player here*.  The one time WCW expresses her opinion about a player and it is negative... you all see it as a licence to dig the boots in?

Regardless of one's opinion of Trac - if you're a poster who is often expressing criticism (whether rightly or not) about the club and players, and demanding that your opinion is respected... how about recognising WCW's right to an opinion?!

Fundamental to that is that Cripps is taking half a million a year less than he might be getting, because collective success was more important to him and he wanted to ensure the club could recruit the additional strength they needed.

No idea why I'm mentioning that in the Petracca thread. Coincidence.

What's important is winning premierships. Anything else, like whether players are "nice boys" or friendly to the nuffies in the outer (myself included) is irrelevant.

And yet Petracca has a premiership and a Norm Smith medal and Cripps has just lost an elimination final by 10 goals and never played in a GF. He may want to rethink his choices.

Fun fact. Christian took a “pay cut” to accomodate Brayshaw’s long term contract.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
